Too Faced Le Grand Palais Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Too Faced Le Grand Palais Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced Le Grand Palais Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 1.93 oz.) is a large, limited edition holiday set that has a little bit of everything, but it is primarily an eyeshadow and blush palette with a few extras thrown in. There are a lot of chunky, glittery eyeshadows included in the palette, which are difficult to use without a really good tacky primer (which is why I think they should have included their own Glitter Glue adhesive instead of their regular eyeshadow primer!). The packaging is very giftable, but it is bulky, so those who have a fair amount of palettes in their stash may find that a lot of the packaging ends up in the recycling bin. This review is focused only on the eyeshadows and cheek products and excludes the primer, mascara, and liquid lip color (that I’ve reviewed as a standalone product in the past).
The value is more complicated to calculate, as Too Faced’s eyeshadow formula is the one they use in palettes but seems quite different from their only available single formula (Exotic Color). They also don’t indicate that the blushes in the palette are anything more than their go-to blush formula in palettes (I don’t think they’re the new Love Flush formula). That being said, here is what I did calculate:
- Eyeshadows: 1.11 oz. = $102.46 value (palette price per ounce) or $333.00 (single price per ounce)
- I think the price per ounce of their eyeshadows in their 9-pan palettes, which are $36.00 for 0.39 oz. or $92.31/oz. is more comparable, but if you go with the price per ounce of their Exotic Color Eyeshadow singles, then it would be $300.00/oz.
- Blushes: 0.16 oz. = $19.81 value
- Even though the blushes don’t seem to be the Love Flush formula, the $26.00 for 0.21 oz. or $123.81 seems about right for an equivalent standalone blush formula.
- Highlighter: 0.08 oz. = $6.86 value
- Their Candlelight Glow highlighter duo is $30.00 for 0.35 oz. or $85.71/ oz.
- Bronzer: 0.08 oz. = $6.86 value
- Sun Bunny Natural Bronzer is $30.00 for 0.35 oz. or $85.71/oz.
- Shadow Insurance: 0.17 oz. = $9.71 value
- The full-size is $20.00 for 0.35 oz. or $57.14/oz.
- Melted Peony: 0.16 fl. oz. = $8.40 value
- The full-size is $21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz. or $52.50/oz.
- Better Than Sex Mascara: 0.17 oz. = $14.48 value
- The full-size is $23.00 for 0.27 oz. or $85.19/oz.
- Total Value: $168.58 or $399.12

Midnight in Paris is a glittery, navy blue with chunky sparkle. The texture was crumbly, almost like sand (not quite that bad), and virtually unusable without an adhesive base as none of it would stick. I could blow lightly at the swatch I did and watch the glitter fly. Viseart Poseidon (GPV2 #9) (P, ) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Sun Bunny #1 is a medium-dark, orange-toned brown with a frosted sheen. It had good color payoff, but the texture was powdery and thinner. The standalone version (and past ones I’ve tried) had greater density, because I noticed with this palette’s version, a lot of the shimmer dusted away and didn’t remain on the face–it looked more like a satin finish applied, which was quite strange. It lasted for eight hours. NYX Beach Babe (P, $6.50) is lighter (90% similar). Too Faced Sun Bunny (Right) (PiP, ) is less shimmery, more muted (95% similar). I’ m passing. I don’t get why they don’t include the Glitter glue. It actually works pretty well with these glittery type shadows. But, most people don’t want to buy a huge palette and chuck yet another TFSI primer in their drawer and go buy a Glitter Glue. Elf’s is just as good though for $3- just FYI.
Right??! They make it, so why not?
Nicole, you mentioned you had tried some glitter glues. Which ones do you like or don’t like? I’m eyeing those Makeup Geek loose duo chrome pigments, I’ll probably need some industrial strength glitter glue to make them stick on my oily lids
Katherine, I have tried Elf’s and Too Faced Glitter Glue. I lost the Elf shorly after buying it somehow and only got to try it once. It seemed to work fine. But, I decided to try TF after that. It’s pretty tacky so I guess It does the job it’s supposed to. I only place it where I’m putting the pigment/shadow as it’s hard to blend I find. I’m so eyeing those pigments and shadows too. But, I love them all and am awful at deciphering swatches.it seemed like the Comments were all good. I’m going to have to wait for reviews or take some time to really look at them.Lmk how you like yours!
Thanks for the info Nicole! The MUGs are suppose to be permanent, so I’m awaiting Christine’s review, as they don’t accept returns except for damaged items. But I might cave and order a couple to try, along with their regular shadows. If I do, I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
I completely understand Katherine. 🙂
All the nopes for this from me I’ve tried Too Faced holiday palettes in the past and hated them, and this doesn’t look any better. I’ll give them props for the packaging though, it’s super cute.
They do know how to do cute!
I am a fan of Too Faced — really I am! — but I absolutely hate their holiday offerings.
I love their small palettes, both the newer tin ones and the older cardboard boxes, but geez it’s like they regress come Christmas. I thought last year’s carousel was bad but a tiny staircase to hold mascara and primer? I don’t like waste and this is a waste of space and money.
I asked it before and I know it’s rhetorical — but to what demographic are they appealing? I don’t know many tweens buying this stuff or having it gifted to them. Too Faced needs to put more thought into actually coming up with new shadows (not just new names for the same old colors) and lay-off the pop-up packaging.
I like a few of them, but they are often over-packaged except with respect it to being a pretty-to-give kind of gift.
Completely agree. As much as I love French everything, and have loads of Too Faced things I love as well, this packaging is so over the top ridiculous that I wouldn’t buy it even if it got a good grade. It’s gaudy, wasteful and wouldn’t look right on anyone’s vanity other than for a few weeks out of the year. On another note, Christine I literally LOLed at “Midnight in Paris” grade. 11%!!! wowzer that is an EPIC FAIL!
It looks great on my vanity right now…in fact there was extra room in there so I am displaying some other lipsticks etc in it as well. Not everyone has lack of space issues and you don’t need to be a tween to enjoy cute. Some people like sleek, sexy, cool, whatever…and some people like cute. I personally love anything cute and over the top and even gaudy so I love this but if you don’t it isn’t very difficult to keep just the palette and throw out the packaging but the thing is that Too Faced prides itself on its cute packaging..if you don’t like that then you could always go with another brand that does everything sleek and black, like MAC…
Oh, this one is just terrible! I don’t think that cutesy packaging can even begin to make up for the poor quality of these products. Totally easy PASS on this unbelievably disappointing hot mess.
Very easy skip!
You haven’t tried it and you are passing judgment on its quality….I think that’s a mistake. It’s actually a very good palette with very good quality everything. A few colors take build up and or water (I don’t use primer and have never needed to, water more than does the job) and a few colors have fallout…this is true of every single Too Faced palette, it’s true of every UD palette, and even MAC has some shadows that don’t perform that well dry…I’m looking at you, Beauty Marked. You can’t really judge quality on someone else’s swatches. I recently bought a palette because everyone’s swatches looked BEAUTIFUL only to find everything looking like mud on my lids and being totally unusable.
Oh wow, I thought some of those preliminary swatches looked really bad, and I was right. I have last year’s Everything Nice palette, and really like playing with it, it’s much better quality than this one. Too bad, as the girly packaging here is so cute, reminds me of the dollhouses I used to play with when I was a kid. Will be checking out the dupes list
Hopefully their other palettes are better!
Soooo disappointing. I’m glad I bought the Vegas Nay palette instead.
Phew!
Absolutely shameful. Too Faced can do better.
Agreed!
I’m not feeling this at all and I’m a sucker for too faced. If they think that package is going to win everyone over quality they should rethink. To be honest I don’t like this years package at all and don’t even get me started on the eyeshadows…can we get something new here? I will be buying the kvd palette and skipping this! Great review
I like the concept, but it’s so impractical for anyone who has a moderate stash, lol!
I will not buy this just for the packaging.
Probably.
lol!
While I think some of these eyeshadows are beautiful, I think I’ll go for a dupe instead as the palette on the whole didn’t get very good grades, and from the swatches I can see why.
It is a pity as the value is quite good. and the colours are lovely, in some cases even on the skin 😉
It’s so hit or miss 🙁
What a shame! This could’ve been the best holiday set ever! I ended up ordering the Grand Chateu one off the Too Faced website. I was able to find only one YouTube review on it, but it seems nice enough. I’d also love to get the Ulta exclusive palette, but their website won’t allow you to pay with a non American Paypal account. They don’t want my dirty third world money ?
Fingers crossed that one will be better!
it is on Ulta now
Wow, this palette looks pretty badass to have! I have a few Too Faced products but not any eye palettes yet. I’m still debating on this one.
Enjoy!
I was most looking forward to the blue (Midnight in Paris) and purple (Champs Elysees), but such disappointing quality! 🙁
Thanks for doing the wonderful swatches, as usual!
My pleasure, Amy!
Dreamlight is gorgeous! Midnight in Paris is rather… Nauseating. Damn, these holiday collections reallllly tend to suck a lot of the time. I’ll just hold out for Guerlains meteorites and rouge g coming out soon 😀
LOL! Some shades… well, you just know they’re going to be bad.
Yep – I could tell by the swatches that this was not good. Just because it’s 3 months to Christmas doesn’t mean we all need glitter…..
At least include the adhesive!
Hi Christine, today I noticed that when I click on individual shades (like if I click on a dupe or something), there always used to be the page for that individual shade and somewhere on that page “Read the Full review”, now that option is gone. That was very important because it allowed me to see the shades zoomed out (which aren’t on the individual shades, at least for lip colors), and it also doesn’t let me read the review itself just gives the letter grade! Can you please bring back this feature?
The button that says “Read Full Review” is still there, and it wasn’t changed at all! It will be shown so long as there is a review attached to the product. If there is no review for the product, there is no full review – same as it was before. Not all swatches or products have reviews, as sometimes I only swatch and add to the database.
e.g. http://www.temptalia.com/product/mac-cosmetics-mineralize-eyeshadow/exquisite-ego-1
“READ FULL REVIEW” is a pink button right under “Editor’s Review”
You’d have to point me to a specific instance, because I just pulled up twenty shades from the list of dupes in the sidebar on this post, and I didn’t have any issues with it working!
I think it is also related to the Glossover, so anything that may have a blog post review but no Glossover isn’t carried over to the single page.
This reminds me, a lot of the TFC stuff still hasn’t shown up on Sephora’s website yet- but it has on Ulta’s website. I haven’t seen when they will show up, but I hope it’s soon… On the bright side, they did show another Holiday palette (Love Flush one) so maybe that will make up for this being so meh.
Ugh. Too Faced has such cute packaging but this palette just looks sad 🙁 I definitely cannot justify purchasing this. I cringed at some of those swatches
I’m a long time Too Faced fan. But I didn’t buy last year and I’m not buying again this year. I feel like if you buy one Too Faced palette then you literally own them all. They constantly reuse shades, I don’t think they even have more than 20-30. They simply rename them and it almost feels sneaky. Two years ago they put out a fantastic collection. Part of it had two palettes in a tin and really it was great. I still have and use that tin! Everything worked, it was super cute, and it wasn’t just some horrid space waster. I wish they’d do packaging like that again, something reusable AND cute, it doesn’t have to be either or. So until they can put out another palette that has components I’d use/reuse and new shades I don’t already have I’ll continue to abstain.
Pass. And I’m not even sad about it, lol 🙂 It just doesn’t stand out at all.
All these Too Faced palettes become a blur, just a mass of the same shades in every one it seems! I wish they would be more creative with themes…
You look so shiny and pretty with just their hightlighter on 🙂
Totally passing. Way too many “dud” shades.
Do you swatch using a primer? Or wear the makeup with primers and base longevity off of wear from that?
No, I do not.
Oh My, I love all these colors! I don’t mind the extra packaging. Since there is a separate palette I can take out, I will give the the cute doll house to my daughter. She will love playing with it 🙂 As for the glitter shadows, I prefer Fyrinnae’s pixie epoxy and will likely use that.
I LOVE your look–am going to try to put it together using the Guerlain Holiday 2015 eye palette and Burberry gold quad with liberal use of things like Chanel Vision… Not the point! What I wanted to ask was what did you use on your lower lashline, if you remember? It looks like eye shadow rather than eyeliner for once, and I’m assuming it would be from this palette if so. I think it looks spectacular with the orange-gold-caramel tones of this eye look. Well, I think the whole eye is wonderful, just not quite enough to sell the palette (especially, since, like everyone else, I have a lot of the dupes). Thanks in advance!
From a packaging perspective i like the fact they actually put some effort into their packaging, some brands don’t. What is disappointing is when the quality of the packaging is high (if you consider using cardboard as high quality) than the quality of the product itself. people will use the product not the package. Sure it’s nice to look at but am i going to stare at it all day and night? The least they could have done is provide glue with the palette if they were going to have many glitter shades added to it and whats worst is some are not even easy to work with.
I totally would pass this palette because:
1. who would waste time trying to apply some of the colors (and in the end you end up having to use a glue for the glitter and primer for the shades that need help to pop)
2. And then a couple of more minutes trying to get rid of the glitter that ended up all over their face….i believe it’s too much even for any glitter lover (at least that’s how it is for me).
The Vegas Nay is much better, the quality is good, application is smooth and the overall result is much better. (The quality is great! and if you check its not as expensive as the Le Grand Palais).
Christine, if you have to chose between these new palettes/kits launched this year by Too Faced (especially beteween le grand palais, le grand chateau and stardust vegas nay) would one would you pick considering best quality, wearability of the product per se and best deal for your money?
And what about all the palettes launched this year for holidays that you reviewed so far, would one or (ones) do consider worth the most?
Thanks for your help and for this amazing site you mantain.
I think Stardust Vegas Nay is better quality, IMO.
Oh I’m so disapointed 🙁
I’ve planned a trip to Sephora and I was so looking forward to buy this holiday palette from Too Faced. Thank god I’ve searched it up! I bought last year’s, everything nice, and all though there are some chunky glitters I like it very much. But this one is too much a miss and maybe too similar colors 🙁
Aww!
