Best Plum Lipstick

What's the Best Plum Lipstick that you've tried?

Oooh, that is so tough! I’m really feeling Urban Decay Sheer Beso and Guerlain Air Kiss right now.

I don’t really have one! I’m loving plum right now but I don’t think I actually own one. I got MAC Soar lipliner a few days ago and it has quite a bit of plummy mauve to it, but I’m unsure if it qualifies as a true plum shade.

I literally JUST got ColourPop Tulle in the mail (like an hour ago) and immediately popped it on my lips. It’s more of a plummy raisin, but still in the plum family I think! It pulls quite dark on me and I love it! A very unique shade.

I love plum lipsticks. Plumful by Mac is my favorite for a soft wash of colour. If I want it to be a bit more intense, I opt for Pourpre Intouchable, from YSL’s Rouge Volupte Shine range. Both are really wearable and gorgeous.

That’s so funny because the first one that came to my mind was Guerlain Air Kiss. That is fairly new for me though. But, I have found myself reaching for it over and over. Same with Sheer Beso. Super hard question for me. I love all well done lippies and I find it really hard to determine plum form purple/wine shades etc.

Hmm…I’m not sure if I own any “plum” lipsticks…do berry lipsticks count!? If so, I would say MAC’s Rebel, Milani’s Embrace, and Wet n Wild’s Infamous Sugar Plum Fairy.

â—‹ Wet n Wild Megalast Lipcolor in (908C) Sugar Plum Fairy
• This is a dupe for MAC’s Rebel, but dare I say, I like this drugstore lipstick better. Gasp! I love its intense opaque color, its matte finish, and its all-day wear.

○ Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Lipstick in #12 Forbidden Burgundy
• This deep plumy-berry shade is so beautiful. The lipstick provides wonderful hydration, along with with extensive wear. It’s my most cherished lipstick.

Lately, I have been seriously digging my tubes if UD After Dark for a deep, dramatic plum and Too Faced Pink Chocolate for an everyday plum!
I nearly bought UD Rapture a few weeks back, but it looked too much like Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in Yummy Plummy, if which I have 5 tubes of that I got when they DC’d it. Yeah, I like Yummy Plummy for MLBP(ummy)!

Be careful with the Maybelline backups! I store my makeup in a cool, dry space, but I’ve had a few Color Sensational lippies go off, unopened/untouched, and only after a few months… If possible, store them in the fridge!

Nancy T Avatar

Thanks Amy! I definitely will stick them in my fridge, but I think I had better check them to see if they’re still any good…I ordered them almost 2 years ago!

It seems some shades go off faster than others, and the 2 I had issues with were nudes. I know they weren’t old when I bought them, as they had only been released inside of a month! I also had an issue with a red & a darker shade, but I’d had them for a few years by that point.

I’m still reaching for MAC’s Plumful whenever I have the opportunity to wear it. It may not be the most original one, but it’s an oldie and a goodie. I REALLY want to get my hands on CT’s Glastonberry though that is WAY more intense plum shade.

MAC Plumful – it’s so wonderful that it’s still a favourite even after all these years. I always have 3 tubes on the go – purse, bathroom and either at work or in my kitchen drawer. I only wish it were a more lasting formula. I also really love BITE Zin – not sure if it counts as plum or berry or what the difference is, to be honest. I bought it as a more long lasting option to Plumful. It is wonderful.

Wet n Wild Mega Last in Photobomb (from the LE Fall 2015 collection). It’s nice and dark, but enough “warmth” to not look “Goth” on fairer skintones, just dramatic. (Not that looking Goth is a bad thing, but it seems to be a point of reference with fair gals & dark lippies.)

Probably either the Illamasqua or the Vincent Longo one, although those are more berry than plum. As for a true plum, I have one by Mac that has a bit of a frost, that I really like. Sorry I can’t remember the names of these. The Mac one was limited edition from a few years ago so that probably doesn’t help much 🙂

MAC Plumful. It’s been a standard for years I’ve purchased multiple tubes. For something a smidge darker – Dior Addict Fashion Week 881. Looking forward to seeing it in the new Dior Addict gel core formulation!

I’m always a bit confused on what qualifies as “plum.” I consider it a slightly warm reddish-brownish-purple, but I’ve seen berries and bright purples called “plum.” I don’t own many of what I consider plums. I go more for bright purples, berries and wines. Some of them might be called “plums” by some people.

From what I own, my favorites are: UD Sheer Rapture (light/sheer), Nyx Creamy Round in Thalia (light), Wet n Wild Megalast in Ravin’ Raisin (medium) and Sugar Plum Fairy (bright/berry), Wet n Wild Fergie Creme Lipstick in Ferguson Crest Cabernet (bright/berry), Too Faced Melted Villain (dark/vampy), ColourPop Feminist (dark/vampy).

Plums are my absolute favorite, so this is a tough one to narrow down. Besides MAC Plumful and Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Rapture, I’ve also been loving MAC Mineralize in Lush Life (a sheerer, lighter version of MAC Rebel) and Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in Blind Date, a semi-sheer reddish plum.

MAC Viva Glam VI (the lustre), MAC Impressive – I have to wear these with primer, not lip balm but lip primer, underneath and then I get long lasting coverage without the drying or crème brule crust-type lips. Sadly if I don’t, both formulas are drying and the wear time is little over an hour.

Agh plum is a tricky subject because I consider plum to be dark purple but everyone else seems to see it as a reddish-purplish-brownish mix! So as far as the general consensus of plum goes, I’ll have to say Mac Viva Glam III! It’s the perfect fall color. And as for true purples I’m digging Colourpop Nevermind right now.

Plum lipsticks are really pretty on my fair face, so I wear them a lot (despite the fact that it’s spring over here). They’re especially a staple for work. Honestly I hate nudes on me, so plum is a bit of a step up from nude, which I like. I have a few favourites that I have on rotation:

– Bobbi Brown lipstick in Rum Raisin (when I tried this, I loved it so much I didn’t want to take it off)
– Revlon Matte Balm in Sultry (although it’s matte, it’s really comfortable to wear)
– Odyssey by MAC (if i’m feeling crazy, because it’s a frost. it’s surprisingly wearable though)

I do also like Del Rio by MAC, but that doesn’t get as much love as it should because I’m not a satin girl.

Tiffany Avatar

My favorite plum shade is Mac in Rebel. It’s a satin finish and it’s just the perfect color for all complexions. I’ve never seen it not look good on anyone. I reach for it mostly in the fall in winter and I’ve been wearing it for years. Despite owning a couple hundred lipsticks, Rebel is actually one that I’ve used up and re-bought.

like other readers, i have a hard time defining/determining plum. after a look through your swatch gallery, i can say my most favorite plum lipsticks are negligee and pussycat by Tom Ford. another good one is rouge de armani in 606 (i only say it is plum because armani’s 600’s are described as such. lol)
