Urban Decay Born to Run 21-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.42 oz.) is a solid mix of neutrals and color with a deeper, more autumnal-vibe than traditional summer offerings. For long-time fans, there are plenty of shades in the palette reminiscent from past releases, but for those who haven’t indulged in lots of Urban Decay, it’s a beautiful palette that’s high-quality, easy to use, and versatile. It leaned slightly more shimmery, but there were enough mattes and near-mattes that I didn’t struggle to create looks with the palette.

About This Series

Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. I know that I tend to use more like five or six shades in a typical look, but I think that four is a happy medium to give a good idea of the “core” color scheme of a look while giving you the ability to lighten/darken as desired. I have listed the colors in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease.

You might see combinations that seem slightly repeated but placement will vary (e.g. a halo placement where the lightest and more shimmery shade is placed on the center) as placement can also create a different effect/look! You might also want to heading=”Born to Run .0″ sub_heading=”Urban Decay Palette” incorporating your favorite matte/shimmer shades (as applicable) to increase the versatility of certain palettes. heading=”Born to Run .0″ sub_heading=”Urban Decay Palette” these ideas a jumping off point!

Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.59 oz.) is a new, permanent palette that’s a reformulation of the original Rose Gold palette. The palette offers a lot of versatility (but it didn’t rate particularly well–read my review for specific reasons) primarily as a result of the variety in mattes in the palette. I think some of the gold/copper shades run together a bit in practice, and the differences between them are subtle (primarily in tone). I liked the inclusion of some plum/berry shades along with the warmer, more orange-toned neutrals, because I felt like you could create very warm, orange-toned looks along with cooler, pink-toned looks as well.

Viseart Cool Mattes 2 (11) Eyeshadow Palette ($80.00 for 0.84 oz.) is a new, updated take on Cool Mattes featuring a slew of smokier, cooler hues ranging from cool beige to cool violet. It’s an all-matte palette, and with the types of shades included, it’s not a palette I feel is versatile on its own. Part of that feeling does come from the fact that they quality was a bit inconsistent, and my experience was that it was better in practice when I used this palette for crease and transition shades rather than all over the lid.

Colour Pop Fortune 16-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($22.00 for 0.64 oz.) is a new, warm-toned set of shades in various finishes and depths. I felt that the palette was cohesive, and it was slightly more red/plum-based compared to past ColourPop palettes (which have read more golden or more orange to my eye). For those who haven’t picked up palettes in similar color schemes, it would be a nice one to consider.

ColourPop Fame Pressed Powder Shadow Palette ($22.00 for 0.56 oz.) is a 16-pan palette that features an assortment of neutrals that lean slightly more neutral and cooler in undertone (particularly in comparison to the typical neutral palette). I did not find that it was truly cool-toned across the board but rather they leaned rose, plum, or gray rather than peach, yellow, or orange. The shimmers work best when applied over primer or used with a dampened brush, and there were a few shades in the palette that felt a little redundant–I definitely felt a want when putting together potential color combinations for a few deeper, more contrasting crease shades (Lifestyle is almost so dark that it is out of place!) as well as one or two more mid-tone/deep shimmery shades (rather than four light shimmery shades). The overall light and mid-tone depth of the palette I felt made it a little more limited and seemed like it would fit someone with a lighter complexion (generally) and who had preferred their neutrals to be subtle and softer. The overlapping nature of some shades would ensure easier blending, though.
