The Best of Morphe Lit High Impact Highlighters

01/03

Morphe High Impact Highlighter

Morphe Lit High Impact Highlighter ($14.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a new, powder highlighter that’s available in six shades (at least, as of June ’18). I hope the brand will continue to extend the range with some cooler-hued highlighters and richer ones, too. A few shades (like Extra, Spark, and Stardust) had a softer sheen–more shine than shimmer–that I think might appeal to some, while other shades are intensely metallic and much more shimmery on the skin (like Mirage and Boom). The texture of the ones that weren’t quite as shimmery felt smooth, firmer and denser, but not stiff to work with, and I didn’t have any trouble applying or blending them out. The more shimmery shades felt creamier and denser but less firmly pressed in the pan, so it was even easier to pickup product with a typical, tapered highlighter brush. They wore well for eight to nine hours on me before fading.

Most of the major brands I’ll buy from without quibbling over will it or won’t it be decent. I have started to hold back on buying full lines of certain types of products that seem like they might not be worth reviewing every single shade for (because they’ll fail based on metrics, e.g. 24-hour wear times, the colors all look about the same, like a super sheer gloss, or the price point is too high and is only worth weighing in on from an overall perspective and not for every shade).

How to Apply Eyeshadow: Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial for Beginners

Warm Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial
Warm Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial

Here’s an in-depth, step-by-step eye makeup tutorial that is geared towards explaining every step in as much detail as possible so that whether you’re a makeup beginner or an old pro, it should be easy to follow. The look showcased in a warm, smokey eye that uses a light-to-dark gradient on the lid and layers mid-tone to deep shades in the crease for depth.  In real time, it takes about five to ten minutes per eye once you’ve had some practice. You might also want to take a look at this eye makeup diagram if you are unfamiliar with certain terminology (like crease, brow bone, etc.).

I wanted to create a fairly generic, warm neutral look with a slightly smoky outer corner and lash line, so it should be easy to replicate with a slew of products, but I specifically used Milani’s Bold Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette and Urban Decay’s Perversion 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil.  I used three brushes: a medium-sized, tapered crease brush (Wayne Goss 17), small, tapered crease brush (Wayne Goss 19), and a flat eyeshadow brush (Smith 253) for the tutorial.

Urban Decay Born to Run 21-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.42 oz.) is a solid mix of neutrals and color with a deeper, more autumnal-vibe than traditional summer offerings. For long-time fans, there are plenty of shades in the palette reminiscent from past releases, but for those who haven’t indulged in lots of Urban Decay, it’s a beautiful palette that’s high-quality, easy to use, and versatile. It leaned slightly more shimmery, but there were enough mattes and near-mattes that I didn’t struggle to create looks with the palette.

About This Series

Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. I know that I tend to use more like five or six shades in a typical look, but I think that four is a happy medium to give a good idea of the “core” color scheme of a look while giving you the ability to lighten/darken as desired. I have listed the colors in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease.

You might see combinations that seem slightly repeated but placement will vary (e.g. a halo placement where the lightest and more shimmery shade is placed on the center) as placement can also create a different effect/look! You might also want to heading=”Born to Run .0″ sub_heading=”Urban Decay Palette” incorporating your favorite matte/shimmer shades (as applicable) to increase the versatility of certain palettes. heading=”Born to Run .0″ sub_heading=”Urban Decay Palette” these ideas a jumping off point!
