Best & Worst of ColourPop Lux Lipsticks

Colour Pop Lux Lipstick

Colour Pop Lux Lipstick

ColourPop Lux Lipstick ($7.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to be a “creamy-matte” that “glides on like butter, doesn’t feather or bleed, and lasts so long you’ll forget you’re even wearing it.” The majority of the shades were quite pigmented with full color payoff in a single stroke with a few in the more semi-opaque coverage range.

The texture was, on average, smooth, lightly creamy, and not too thick or too thin, so there was no tugging during application but the color didn’t feel slippery while worn, which made them easier to apply straight from the tube and low-maintenance on the lips.

They tend to dry and wear down to a soft matte finish within one to three hours of wear, and while they are very lightweight on, they hug the lips more as they become more matte (compared to initial feel). The wear time has been between four and six hours for most shades, and most shades were non-drying to lightly hydrating. They were vanilla-scented but had no discernible taste.

Sephora Take a Spin (41) Lipstories Lipstick ($8.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a soft, medium beige with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It had better pigmentation that I expected (almost opaque), but it had a lot of slip and the particle size of the glitter/sparkle seemed prone to making the color clump up on those particles rather than adhere to my lips evenly. The end result was a clumpy, patchy application that did not look good. It worked better layered over another product with a lip brush or fingertip. It wore well for three and a half hours and was lightly hydrating.

Formula Overview

$8.00/0.14 oz. - $57.14 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be "lightweight" with "full-coverage color in one swipe." The majority of shades were pigmented with semi-opaque to full color payoff in a single layer, as described. The more shimmery shades tended to be a bit sheerer overall, while the mattes and creams were usually closer to opaque in coverage. The textures were typically creamy, lightweight, and not too thin or too thick on the lips, so they were comfortable to apply and to wear. There were some shades where the color pulled into my deeper lip lines upon application, and it was more or less noticeable just depending on the color and finish of the particular. Some shades seemed hydrating and others were non-drying. They lasted anywhere from three to over six hours on me. There was a subtle, sweet, fruity scent (I couldn't detect it on, just in the tube), and I haven't noticed any taste after wearing them.

Best Makeup Brushes for Finishing & Contour

Best Makeup Brushes for Applying Finishing & Contour

When it comes to applying cream eyeshadow, synthetic brushes are my go-to as creams as natural hair brushes can soak up liquid and creams too much and produce either sheer or streaky results (and creams tend to necessitate washing often, and synthetics can take the extra washing easily).  I find a flat, synthetic brush is necessary for all-over lid application; a fluffy, dome-shaped brush key for diffusing crease color and applying creams to the brow bone; and a dome-shaped, denser brush for depositing pigmented color into the crease.

I was musing about this the other day as I saw Guerlain had launched some new lip products, and I just felt so little inside… and they used to be a brand I would get excited to see new product from (particularly lip product at that!). They’ve just fallen off my radar in the last couple of years. On Monday, I noticed that Le Metier de Beaute launched a new lipstick, and my first thought was, “They’re still around?” because it was another brand I really enjoyed years ago but barely registers for me now.

Best Makeup Brushes for Applying Foundation, Powder, & Concealer

There are certain types of brushes that I tend to rely heavily on a specific brush and have less options, and this post reflects that.  I’m not sure if it’s merely because I love them so much and don’t love others nearly as much, but these were the ones I use often and stood out to me when I went to compile my favorites!
