ColourPop It's a Mood Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

It's a Mood
ColourPop It’s a Mood 30-Pan Shadow Palette ($34.00 for 0.92 oz.) is a new palette that includes 26 regular eyeshadows, three Pressed Glitters, and one Pressed Pigment. Ah, you almost thought ColourPop was done with including Pressed Glitters in their eyeshadow palettes, but alas, we were all wrong! wrong! wrong!
Some shades were very nice, some shades were so-so, and the shades that weren’t as high quality were often shades that are less common and tend to be sheerer or more powdery (like matte purples and teals). The three Pressed Glitters seemed drier and were more prone to fallout/migration compared to others I’ve tried in the past, so I did feel like those ratings brought down the palette overall. When I excluded the Pressed Glitter ratings, the palette rated closer to an A- (~90%).
Aside from quality, there was some overlap in shades in practice. For example, Don’t Deny is the better version of Self-Control, as it was very similar in color, depth, and undertone but didn’t have the random sparkle. Stay Close, Everywhere, and It’s a Rush ran together, so I think excluding Everywhere or giving a richer, more red-orange would have made the palette more versatile.

Love Song
Love Song is a light-medium, peachy gold with strong, warm orange undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was more loosely-pressed and a little drier, despite having a smoother, almost creamy feel to it when I touched it. It had mostly opaque color coverage with slight fallout during application. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Formula Overview
$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce
The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Surrender
Surrender is a bright, yellowy gold with moderate, warm undertones and a smooth, metallic sheen. It had opaque color payoff that adhered well to bare skin with a smooth, even laydown of product. The texture was moderately dense, lightly emollient, and picked up fairly well with a brush but had a touch of fallout if I wasn’t careful to press it on. This shade showed signs of fading after eight hours of wear.

Dream On
Dream On is a bright, orange-leaning copper with strong, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had opaque color payoff in a single layer. There was fading visible after eight hours of wear.

Feels Like
Feels Like is a medium, greenish-aqua with subtle, warm undertones and warmer, golden shimmer paired with a metallic sheen. It had mostly opaque, buildable pigmentation, but the texture was slightly drier and thinner, which made it look almost faded and less shimmery once on my lid. I’d recommend using it with a dampened brush or fingertip, which seemed to keep the color truer for longer. It lasted well for seven hours before fading noticeably.

Ritual is a dark gold with strong, warm undertones that contained smaller and larger glitter particles. It was a pressed glitter, so it was not intended for use around the eye area. It had a more emollient feel to the touch, which gave it decent dispersion when patted/pressed onto skin. It adhered decently for six hours of wear before there was noticeable migration.

Echoes
Echoes is a faded, medium-dark purple with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The texture was moderately powdery, which made it more prone to sheering out, but it had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that was workable and did blend out without difficulty. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading a bit.

Don't Deny
Don’t Deny is a deep green with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that applied evenly and blended out well, but it had a more powdery texture that was prone to sheering out so it had to be built back up. It lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Stormy
Stormy is a darker, pinkish-red with warm undertones and a glitter finish. It had smaller glitter particles throughout–and lots of them–and was marked as a Pressed Glitter, so it was not intended for use around the eye area. There was some adhesive properties to it, but it felt drier and was more prone to fallout/migration during application than most Pressed Glitters from the brand. The fallout/migration was noticeable after five hours of wear.

It’s a Rush is a burnt orange with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff in a single layer, which adhered well to bare skin and blended out nicely. For a Nite
For a Nite is a deep navy blue with strong, cool undertones and a soft, pearl sheen. The texture was more emollient to the touch with a smoothness, but it applied best with a fingertip or a dampened brush as I felt a dry brush didn’t push the product onto the lid well and yielded fallout. It lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Our Deal
Our Deal is a dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that was easily built up to full coverage with less than a second layer. The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing." The way the Pressed Pigments differ is that they're not intended for usage on the immediate eye area.
The majority of the shades are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage, blend out fairly well, and can sometimes be a bit drier/more powdery compared to typical matte shades. They often wear eight to nine hours on me before fading, but many shades in the Pressed Pigment family leave some staining behind.

New Moon
New Moon has a darker, reddish-copper base with flecks of finer gold and red glitter and larger, gold glitter pieces. It was a Pressed Glitter, so it is not intended for use around the immediate eye area. The texture was more fragile and loosely-pressed, which resulted in difficulty picking up product evenly. There was more slip, too, that made the glitter get pushed around and not distribute as evenly as ideal. There was noticeable migration of glitter within four and a half hours of wear.

It had medium color payoff, which was somewhat buildable, and had a moderately powdery texture that was prone to sheering out and had light fallout. While this palette does have some beautiful shades in it, the redundancy of several, plus the sheer size of this make it a hard pass for me. Like; I literally have nowhere to put a palette this size!
I love the deeper shades, especially the greens and bronzes, but it makes me wish they could do a larger palette like this with green and gold shades for those of us with olive undertones. The peach shades tend to go too orange in relation to the greens for folks with this complexion.
I could see myself using this palette but I have no room for it.
Wow, your looks are so well-coordinated! This palette is full of inspiring colors to work with. A ~$25 launch price is a steal, but I’d prefer they also offer these as singles. I’d willingly pay more per shadow to avoid glitters and dupes.
What an absolute mammoth palette to review Christine – it must have taken you ages. And we appreciate this too.
As to the palette, I really think it would have been better to divide this into two – warm and cool toned, otherwise there are a lot of wasted shades for customers.
Again the inclusion of the PET glitter shades is a big mistake on the part of the brand.
I really liked a lot of the shimmer shades and thought that For a Nite and Wanna Go were the standout ones for me, plus the varied gold and bronze shades.
In all respect, I loved the color story; it was coordinated and grungy in which I mostly enjoy, but the quality wasn’t at par with what I expected. Some of the darker shades were so patchy, while the medium colors weren’t visible enough and the glitters are worst than some of the drug store brand versions. I would recommend the 4 quads.
