Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliners Reviews & Swatches (Part 2 of 5)
Abyss
Urban Decay Abyss 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Eyeliner) ($22.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark blue with moderate, cool undertones and a metallic sheen. It had medium color payoff in a single stroke, which built up easily to full coverage with a second layer. When I applied it using short, overlapping strokes (what I find most comfortable for real-life application!), I didn’t notice it being sheerer.
The texture was smooth, lightweight, and creamy with moderate slip, so it glided across my lash line with ease and did not tug. It wore well for 10 hours on my lower lash line before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview
$22.00/0.04 oz. - $550.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to go on "smoothly, stay soft and super-creamy for blending" before it "dries to a long-lasting finish that won't budge" with "intense" coverage. I'm a long-time fan and user of the formula--almost a decade now--and they're still a go-to. I keep a handful of formulas at my fingertips, and I have all of the shades from this range in a cup within reach.
It isn't the longest-wearing formula I've come across, but I find that it balances longevity with creaminess in application and ease of removal at the end. They also wear away "kindly," so while the line might get thinner, it doesn't drag or bleed toward my under eye area. The formula has solid, long-wear at eight to 10 hours before fading, thinning, or having a bit of migration to the outer corner. The less shimmery shades tend to have the most visible movement, whereas the more shimmery shades tend to fade or thin.
The pigmentation varies a lot from shade to shade with more matte shades often having the most coverage in a single layer, followed by more metallic finishes. The more glittery the finish, the weaker the coverage and application were. Many of the shades in the range are buildable and apply with near-to or opaque coverage when applied in short, overlapping strokes. The majority are very comfortable to apply on the lower lash line or waterline.
They have a creamy, glide-on consistency as promised, and they can be smudged or blended out, so they are particularly useful for someone who likes a more diffused look for their eyeliner.
As someone who has had a lot of these eyeliners over time, I can attest to the fact that they do not dry out readily. Some of the shades I have that I don't use (because they're THAT old) are still creamy and glide-on when swatched.

Chaos
Urban Decay Chaos 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Eyeliner) ($22.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a brighter, cobalt blue with strong, cool blue undertones with faint sparkle over a more matte finish. It was the type of blue that almost looked purple in some lighting, though it was more blue than purple (when compared to true purples).
The consistency felt smooth and velvety, more silicone-heavy, which made it comfortable to work with on my lash line, though I felt like the payoff was more medium in a single layer and had to be built up. Thankfully, it was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The color started to show signs of fading after nine and a half hours of wear.

Deep End
Urban Decay Deep End 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Eyeliner) ($22.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a brighter, light-medium blue-teal with cool undertones and a soft, metallic sheen. It had good color coverage in a single layer, which was impressive as I find a lot of liners can seem pigmented in practice but often look less-than-opaque in that “single stroke” swatch.
The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and comfortable to work with as it didn’t feel too wet but remained smudgeable for a good 20 to 30 seconds. It wore nicely for 10 hours before thinning visibly.

Empire
Urban Decay Empire 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Eyeliner) ($22.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep purple with subtle, warm undertones and cooler, bluish-purple pearl. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that adhered evenly and applied smoothly to my lash line without tugging. The texture was velvety, lightly creamy, and smooth, which made it easy to work with. It stayed on well for 10 hours before showing signs of fading.

Ether
Urban Decay Ether 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Eyeliner) ($22.00 for 0.04 oz.) has a blackened base with flecks of gold, purple, and blue sparkle. It was a more glittery eyeliner, so it was most comfortable to use on the lower lash line and not one I’d be as comfortable with on the water line.
The texture was more emollient than other shades, which resulted in sheerer, less even pigmentation. I had the best luck applying it and then using a pencil brush to smudge the color to get an even application of the product. The shade itself is unusual, but I wish the base color was more pigmented. The eyeliner lasted well for nine hours before thinning noticeably.

Urban Decay LSD 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Eyeliner) ($22.00 for 0.04 oz.) has a blackened navy base with flecks of lighter, brighter blue pearl and micro-sparkle. It had semi-sheer pigmentation applied in a single stroke, which was buildable to mostly opaque coverage, but it was under-pigmented and took some effort to build it up evenly.
The pencil had a lightweight, smooth consistency that didn’t tug on my lash line, and I didn’t feel the shimmer/sparkle in it, which was nice. It wore nicely for nine and a half hours before thinning visibly.

Urban Decay Sabbath 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Eyeliner) ($22.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep, inky blue with strong, cool undertones and a satin sheen. It was more emollient than most of the shades in this formula, which gave it a bit more slip and slide. I felt like it was very comfortable going on but did seem to migrate more noticeably to the outer corners after eight to nine hours of wear (not too bad but certainly visible). It had good pigmentation but needed a second layer for evenness and truer color.

Sabbath
DCDiscontinued. $22.00.
P.S. — These are not new! A couple of years ago, Urban Decay sent out a press mailer of all of their current eyeliner pencils, and I decided to re-photograph and swatch through (the majority I had swatched in 2013!!!)–though after I already used a few!–and I’m only got around to editing those photos recently (with the absence of 4,000 new eyeshadow palettes to review). I’ve been testing and writing down wear times for the last year or so! 😂
My picks for both my eye color as well as for the quality are; Rockstar, Deep End and Empire. I also really love Sabbath!
Rockstar is the only colored eyeliner outside of black & brown I’ve purchased two of. I also enjoy using deep end, sabbath and chaos.
Eyeliners are such a beautiful accent, that’s probably why I have almost a hundred of them. Just looking at these makes my heart beat faster, checking my collection to find dupes… and I’m ok I’m covered, these colors are soo beautiful they just can’t sit on the shelf without coming out to play, every day!
Linda Hallberg has a wonderful pencil that dupes Chaos! Pigmentation may be even better, as well.
Abyss and LSD would be my favourite shades.
I know Ether requires a bit of work, but the color is so nice and I really haven’t found a dupe for it. I can always make it work. LSD is also a beautiful shade! I am so happy Christine reviewed these pencils. They’ve always been my favorite. A really good formula dupe would be the NYX Slide On Eye Pencil, but the shade range pales in comparison.
Christine, is there an easy way to find “Part 1” of the reviews of these pencils? Also, in the Recommendations thread for Neutral Shadows – when I try to submit, I get the message that I’ve exceeded the maximum number of recommendations (or submissions) – an alarming statement on my outrageous number of beloved neutral shadows, for sure, but is there actually a set “maximum number” of recommendations we can submit?
You can click “Urban Decay” as a category, which would show you all UD posts – and since we are “current,” then part 1 should show up pretty readily.
I believe there’s a number of recs per time – have you tried to submit less and then recommend more?
I imagine that when the category for those recommendations first popped up, I probably submitted a LOT of shadows (since neutral shadows are my weakness). But trying to add even one today yielded the message that I’d exceeded the number allowed (I forget the exact wording) and wouldn’t let me submit any more shadows.
This should be fixed!
Deep End is one of my favorite liners of all time. Such a perfect teal that always looks good and stays put. I also have Chaos and Rock Star. I really like all these shades and need to get the ones I don’t own yet.
I really love you swatching their whole collection of liners! Thank you!
