Smashbox Photo Op Mega Palette

Smashbox Photo Op Mega Palette ($69.00 for 1.06 oz.) includes eight eyeshadow trios (so 24 eyeshadows), plus three blushes. There are a variety of finishes from mattes to shimmers, cooler and warmer shades. The palette is one I would recommend using with a primer, as most of the eyeshadows are on the powdery side and just do not perform as well over bare skin as they would over a primer. I liked it, and they were fairly blendable overall, but it’s a better fit for someone who regularly uses primer. It’s also a tremendous value, as you’re getting eight full-sized trios (normally $28 a pop, so $224 in value right there), plus three blushes.

Several of these shades can be found either as permanent trios in the Smashbox range or as part of other trios. The following trios are included: Multi-Flash (Naked, Crisp, Doe), Filter (Vanilla, Sable, Sumatra), Dark Room (Opal, Granite, Blackout), Cover Shoot (Flirt, Dusk, Haze), Skybox (Sky, Steel, Nocturnal). These are the shades that are in this palette but can be found in other trios (but not together): Golden Orchid, Obsidian, Amethyst, Parfait, Ambient.

FORMULA SUMMARY | Smashbox Photo Op Eyeshadow is supposed to a “super blendable, velvety formula” that is “highly pigmented” with “lasting wear.” It does have a very soft, velvety feeling, but several are on the powdery side. It’s a formula that is best suited over a primer, as it helps to give it more to hold onto and manages that powderiness better than applying over bare skin.

Petunia is a light-medium, pink-tinged peach with warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had semi-opaque, moderately buildable color payoff with a silky, smooth, though lightly powdery, texture. It had semi-sheer color payoff that built up to medium coverage, but the texture was thin and powdery, which made it prone to sheering out and fading. It lasted for seven hours on me.
