MAC C'est Chic Eyeshadow x15 Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Nordstrom C’est Chic Eyeshadow Palette
MAC Nordstrom C’est Chic Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.68 oz.) is a set of 15 matte, neutral-hued eyeshadows in a large, plastic compact. Each eyeshadow is full-sized, but they’re not easily removed (they are glued in). I can see this palette being really useful for someone who likes MAC’s matte eyeshadow formula and needs neutrals in their stash. Overall, it’s a good palette, and like most MAC eyeshadows, they tend to perform better when I used them on my eyes than just on my arm. I didn’t have any major issues with any shades; the texture is firmer but soft, blendable, and the pigmentation varied from semi-opaque to opaque (most shades were buildable). The wear was eight to nine hours, without primer. There are three permanent shades in this palette: Soft Brown, Corduroy, and Embark.

Pale, Please is a very light pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was good, while the texture was soft and blendable, though a little dusty so some product gets kicked up in the pan and a bit of fall out if you don’t tap off your brush prior to applying to the eye area. Embark is a deep, reddish brown with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. I noticed that this one seemed to produce a smidgen of a sheen applied to my normal-to-dry skin (like it absorbed some of the oil on my skin, which gave it the sheen). It had good pigmentation with a fairly blendable texture, but it was a smidgen stiffer compared to other shades in the palette. The color started to crease after nine hours of wear. AWWWW! I loved your review! I actually got a chance to swatch these before they released and they were so creamy. I find the formula to be a bit different than the past palettes they have released. Love it! Waiting on the Nordstrom $10 certificate to get my hands on this :).
So glad you were able to check it out in person, Senia! Enjoy yours when you’re able to get it.
Oh wow, this scored a lot better than I expected! A number of the swatches didn’t look that great, but guess they apply better on the eye. Since I need mattes, and it’s an all matte palette, I might pick this up, hope they hold up on my oily lids. ColourPop has some great mattes, but they aren’t as convenient to grab in the morning, because they are all singles with screw top lids.
Ok, I caved and ordered it. Have a feeling this palette is going to be super popular and will go fast. I don’t have that many MAC shadows at all, so no repeat shades for me here. The scores are already very impressive for mattes, and with primer, I can probably boost them by at least 1/2 grade, and if they still don’t work out, Nordstrom will take it back. Thanks for swatches and review!
It did! I think it works quite well.
I’d love to own this but since I live in Canada I won’t be able to get my hands on it. I could see myself getting use out of every single one of these eye shadows.
The Bay might get it – I am not sure myself, but sometimes Nordstrom exclusives come to the Bay.
Hi Chelsea, you might check with a Nordstrom in Canada. When I’m home and need something from Nordstrom, I’ve had no issue getting the item carried at Nordstrom in the US. You might save some tax by calling the Calgary store first. Good luck! (I wouldn’t be surprised if it did come to the Bay. Worth an inquiry.)
Oh nooo..! I’ve just ordered the new Anastasia Beverly Hills palette, after seeing your gorgeous eye makeup look and now THIS one!!! What should I dooo now??? 😀
I was planning to get me Makeup Geek eyeshadow pans (I’m new to Makeup Geek).
What would you recommend: this palette or Makeup Geek pans? What shadows are better, in your opinion, please? 🙂
It just depends on the shade – Makeup Geek has great shades, as does MAC, but they both have misses, too!
Pretty much duped, but what a wonderful gift this would make. Your mattes: covered, good variety, and even a good black. Good job, mac.
It would be a nice gift!
Right??? It’s been so long since I’ve seen a decent black from MAC. All I kept seeing was 10 different versions of Carbon, each worse than the one before. So glad they got this palette right.
Have you ever tried those huge Morphe palettes? How does this compare to those in terms of quality, longevity, and texture?
Sorry, I haven’t tried any Morphe!
I used Morphe, great colors but I had to use quite a bit of shadow for it to even show up and longevity wasn’t that great. Funny you mentioned Morphe, I was looking at this MAC palette and thought it would make a great sub for the Morphe, esp. since it got high marks from Christine.
Mac is way above morphe. And if you have sensitive eyes, morphe is not for you. Mac lasts all day on me, morphe lasts maybe 4 hours.
If I had it my way, Soft Brown would be in every palette ever created (MAC and non-MAC) 😀
Haha!
I think so too lol
I’m glad someone else feels the same way! 🙂
YAY! YAASSSS! Beautiful eye look, Christine. I’m very excited about this – I would have gotten it if it scored lower anyway but am thrilled the lowest score was a B. I am loving these new matte shades!
Thank you so much, Pearl!
Mulling this one over, really love the fact that these are Matte shades and also because I have never tried any MAC eye shadows.
Are you able to check it out in person? Maybe that would help!
I think I’m in trouble here….my “no more MAC” vow to myself has withered after seeing how wonderfully this palette performs. Okay, so I have to take stock of what I do already own, and tell myself “no, you have enough dupes and near enough dupes”. But you know; angel on one shoulder, devil on the other, both talking at once in my ear? ???
Btw, your eye look using this beauty of a palette is just stunning, Christine! Very lovely summer apropos smokey eye. ?
You have dupes! You can resist!
Wow, I could get 15 eye shadows or one lip gloss. And with the eye shadows I’d have money left over.
Totally understand!
Love your eye look!! I’m hoping this goes to the cco. But I have to be careful…I bought the recent mac 15 pan palette, it was IDENTICAL to last year’s Nordstrom palette. I sold my Nordstrom to my sister. But I can never pass up the 15 pan pre-made palettes. They’re too good a deal!
You definitely have to read the shade list!
It’s great to see an all matte palette by MAC getting a pretty good score, and especially not containing a single miss! Not sure I need it though, I like mattes but the palettes leans a little too rosy for my taste.
It’s a shame it isn’t permanent!
Is this available only for certain dates or while supplies last?
While supplies last!
Such a great deal and it has lovely colors. I love the eye look you created.
It is a good deal!
So glad this gets good marks. Mine arrives tomorrow!
Yayy! Enjoy yours, Stephanie!
How do you think this would work on women of color? I’m a NW43/NC50. Love the colors but I’m worried they won’t show up on me.
*deeper women of color
I’m not sure – I think it might lose some contrast on deeper skin, but some of the darker shades in the palette I think would work well.
Is it just me or do many of those colours look really similar to each other?
Anyway, it’s great news that MAC has put out a really good matte palette for those who love matte neutral colours. Again – a beautiful eye look Christine.
There are a few that are similar for sure!
Not bad at all for an all-mattes palette. I adore the rosy eye look you did.
Thanks, Rachel!
I think I am in trouble. With my wallet. Yes I am.
Uh oh!
wow, wanna try the MAC Demitasse Eyeshadow shade. thank you for the help 🙂
No problem!
These are my kind of shades
Awesome!
Ooooh that’s a stunning eye look again! I’m good on mattes at the moment, but I do like the overall look of the palette.
Thank you!
I like this but not enough to buy it. I have dupes for about 3 colours, I think my favourite colour here is All Rosy so could get a dupe for that.
I hope you can get a good dupe for All’s Rosy! I think that’s the harder shade to dupe in the palette.
This palette would be a very nice one to add to the MAC collection as I tend to buy the more shimmery satiny eyeshadows. Pity we’ll not get it here.
I agree! It’s a shame it’s not going to be more widely distributed.
Man! This is pretty! But I JUST ordered the Tarte Clay Matte Palette 2 days ago. I’m trying to decide if this MAC palette is different enough to justify having both! Do you (or anyone else here!) happen to remember the Tarte palette enough to know how the shadow formulas compare?
Tarte’s formula is softer, dustier, more prone to sheering out and typically doesn’t wear well without a good primer underneath (for me, obviously!).
Thanks Christine! The Tarte palette arrived over the weekend and I wasn’t super into the formula (matched your description exactly). I’m returning it & am going to give C’est Chic a try. Here’s hoping this will be the neutral matte palette for me!
Fingers crossed, Kerry! Let me know either way, though 🙂
The Tarte formula doesn’t wear more than max 6 hours on me even with primer. I like the Tartlette but it is not my holy grail.
Thanks, Domi! 🙂
I went in stores to swatch this today after seeing this review and I was not impressed. Granted, I don’t own a single MAC shadow but own UD, IT Cosmetics, theBalm, and Lorac. These shadows felt a bit dry to me and my finger swatches were not intense. Several of the shades didn’t show up on my arm. I think I’ll be going for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Palette instead!
MAC’s matte formula typically applies better with brushes than fingers, as they will absorb a lot of the natural oil on your fingers due to the thinner consistency overall! At least, that is my personal experience – I am someone who doesn’t like LORAC’s formula for the most part (particularly their mattes).
sometimes I feel like when I swatch something in store either eyeshadows or lipsticks or whatever, they do feel different and generally worse in quality than when I have bought something and swatch it at home. maybe because they have been opened most of the time under the intense store light and it’s usually quite warm in stores (here at least) that might affect the formula in store. but that’s just what I have experienced most of the time! it’s often way better when you buy your own new item and try it on your face.
That’s such a beautiful palette. I wasn’t expecting such high marks. I do love matte eyeshadows… Decisions, decisions!! Your eye looks is fabulous, Christine!!
Thank you, Tracey! 🙂
This eye look may be my favorite one you have ever done – it is stunning! Excellent work as always 🙂
Thanks, Candace!
Great review!
How do you think this palette compares to the others mac’s 15 pre made eyeshadow palettes? I mean do you think it is a plus if you already have the natural cool and the natural warm palette? Is there any other mac’s 15 pre made eyeshadow palette to compare this one to?
It’s all matte, so I don’t think it compares really to the other palettes they’ve put out – and of course, it depends on whether you wear neutrals a lot, which ones you use between the palettes, etc.
