Ashes is a light-medium taupe with neutral-to-warm undertones (almost olive to my eye) and greenish-gold sparkle on top of a matte finish. The sparkles combined better with the base than I expected, but it was still more of a matte effect on the lid as only a fraction of the sparkles stayed where I applied the eyeshadow. It had good pigmentation with a soft, smooth texture that was a touch powdery in the pan. It wore well for eight hours on me.
