Anastasia Norvina Vol. 4 Pro Pigment Palette Review & Swatches
Norvina Vol 4
Anastasia Norvina Vol 4 Pro Pigment Palette ($60.00 for 1.575 oz.) is a mixed bag that ranged from disappointing to fantastic. I think it was more workable and easier to use than past volumes, which wasn’t a surprise since there were more shimmers, more neutral tones, and fuchsia Pressed Pigments tend to perform better than blues or purples.
The shimmers ranged from some of the best the brand has released–intensely pigmented, creamy with great adhesion–to mediocre to the point where one struggles to understand how both are possible in a single palette. The mattes ranged from quite powdery (and therefore sheerer, prone to fallout, and/or uneven in application) to richly pigmented and blendable.
Sixteen shades (A2, A3, B2, B3, B5, C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, D1, D2, D4, E1, E4, E5) in the palette are considered Pressed Pigments, which are “not intended for use around the immediate eye area.” There are also two Pressed Glitters, which contain plastic (PET) glitter but are listed under “Eye Shadows.”

A1 (Norvina Vol. 4)
A1 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a bright, white gold base that shifted from gold to green with a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture felt lightly emollient and smoother to the touch, but it was more firmly pressed into the pan so it needed to be used with a fingertip or a dampened brush for maximum payoff (nearly opaque) and minimal fallout.
It had more semi-opaque coverage with some fallout applied with a dry brush. It lasted well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably but had light fallout over time.

Formula Overview
$12.00/0.06 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce
Anastasia Eyeshadow is supposed to be a “finely-milled, highly-pigmented” powder eyeshadow. There are several different finishes, and the performance can be better or worse depending on the finish, though it also ranges from shade to shade. On average, the formula is semi-opaque to opaque, lightly dusty to buttery, wears seven to nine hours, and is fairly blendable. The Metallic and Titanium finishes seem to be the best-performing to me, but there are some really standout mattes and shimmers as well. I have not tried the sparkle, satin, or velvet finishes as extensively as the other finishes, personally.

A1 (Norvina Vol. 4)
LELimited Edition. $12.00.
A2 (Norvina Vol. 4)
A2 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a bright, pink-lavender with warm undertones and blue-to-violet shifting shimmer that gave it a metallic finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that was dense but not too thick or heavy, so it applied well and blended out easily. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before showing signs of wear.

A2 (Norvina Vol. 4)
LELimited Edition.
A3 (Norvina Vol. 4)
A3 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a bright, fuchsia pink with strong, cool blue undertones and a satin finish. It had enough shimmer woven through the more matte base that some of the shimmer translated during application, though it was still not overtly shimmery to my eye in person.
It had good color coverage that applied evenly and blended out without difficulty. The texture was soft, slightly drier but not prone to fallout or sheering out too readily. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours and left a faint stain behind.

A4 (Norvina Vol. 4)
A4 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a light brown with moderate, warm undertones–not quite yellow or red-based but fairly balanced–with a matte finish. The consistency was soft, moderately powdery, so there was light fallout during application, but it had opaque coverage that blended out well. It lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

A5 (Norvina Vol. 4)
A5 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a bright, light-medium peach with moderate,w arm undertones and flecks of gold and pink sparkle throughout. It had a lightly creamy, somewhat denser consistency, but it wasn’t too thick or too firmly pressed into the pan, so it picked up well with a brush.
There was light to moderate fallout if I wasn’t careful during dry application, so I’d recommend using it with a dampened brush or fingertip to minimize if that is a concern. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading and had a touch of fallout over time.

LELimited Edition.
C1 (Norvina Vol. 4)
C1 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a light, pinky-coral with moderate, warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had sheer coverage, which was likely due to the stiffer, firmer texture that was thin and difficult to pick up.
I didn’t find it improved much when applied with a fingertip or a dampened brush–I had to jab and push at the surface to get product to come away. The product showed signs of fading after seven hours of wear.

C2 (Norvina Vol. 4)
LELimited Edition.
C3 (Norvina Vol. 4)
C3 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a light purple with warmer, reddish undertones and cooler, violet pearl. It had semi-opaque color coverage that was hard to build up without using a dampened brush.
The texture felt smoother to the touch with light slip, but it was thin and more firmly-pressed, which made it hard to pick up evenly. It stayed on decently for seven hours before fading noticeably.

LELimited Edition.
C4 (Norvina Vol. 4)
C4 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a medium-dark lavender with subtle, cool undertones and sparkle over a matte finish. It was extremely powdery, which resulted in a fair amount of fallout and a tendency to sheer out. It had to be used over a primer to achieve more buildable coverage (about semi-opaque, more diffused) but could look dry and emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It lasted for seven hours before fading visibly.

C5 (Norvina Vol. 4)
C5 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a bright, pink-red with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer on top. The texture was fairly soft, lightly powdery but not to the point where it caused problems. This shade wore well for nine hours but left a stain behind.

D1 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a muted, darker yellow with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation that built up to full coverage with a second layer. D2 (Norvina Vol. 4)
D2 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a bright, highlighter yellow that leaned slightly greener than most yellow hues paired with a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied somewhat unevenly and looked dry, which resulted in emphasizing my skin’s natural texture. The texture was quite powdery and slightly thinner. It lasted decently for seven and a half hours and stained my skin after removal.

D3 (Norvina Vol. 4)
D3 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a light, golden bronze with a metallic finish and warmer undertones. It had excellent color coverage in a single layer, which applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of product. The texture was soft, lightly creamy, and easy to work with. This shade wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

LELimited Edition. $12.00.
D4 (Norvina Vol. 4)
D4 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had good pigmentation but was quite dry and thin to work with, so I had to use a heavier hand to pick up product and found it resulted in fallout to get an even layer of product. It showed signs of wear after seven and a half hours of wear.

D5 (Norvina Vol. 4)
D5 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a medium-dark brown with moderate, warmer orange undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color payoff in a single layer, but the texture was slightly drier and powdery, so it wasn’t as blendable as I would have expected–it played more like the Pressed Pigments in the palette than a typical eyeshadow (being brown-hued, I was surprised).
It lifted up other matte shades slightly if I wasn’t careful with my pressure. This shade lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

E1 (Norvina Vol. 4)
E1 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a bright, medium-dark pink with subtle, warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that built up better over primer than bare skin. The consistency was moderately powdery and felt a little on the drier side, which I suspect is why it didn’t build up as well on bare skin. It stayed on decently for eight and a half hours before I noticed fading, and it stained my lid slightly afterward.

E1 (Norvina Vol. 4)
LELimited Edition.
E2 (Norvina Vol. 4)
E2 (Norvina Vol. 4) is multi-colored, small and medium particle-sized glitter suspended in a translucent base. It seemed to read more like white gold that shifted to more green-gold at times. The formula felt lightly emollient and wasn’t as dry as past Pressed Pigments by the brand, but it still didn’t have as much adhesion as other Pressed Glitters (of late) that I would be wary of using it without an actual adhesive primer/base. It had decent spread of the particles and light fallout initially, but it definitely had decent fallout over time (I wore it on my cheeks only).
It contained plastic (PET) glitter, and while the palette contains several Pressed Pigments that are “not intended for use around the immediate eye area,” this shade, and E3, another Pressed Glitter, do not have this warning. Some brands do include that warning when using plastic glitter–in the last few years, it has become more inconsistent if/when the warning is provided.

E2 (Norvina Vol. 4)
LELimited Edition.
E3 (Norvina Vol. 4)
E3 (Norvina Vol. 4) had pink and copper small and medium particle-sized glitter suspended in a translucent base. It looked like a coppery-brown with hints of pink and gold glitter depending on how the light reflected off it. The coverage was more semi-sheer to medium in a single layer, and while there was some slip to the formula (which helped it spread decently), it still moved around on its own. I’d highly recommend applying it with a tackier base or primer to minimize fallout and migration over time. I had a fair amount of migration, fallout, and traveling particles when worn as a cheek product.
It contained plastic (PET) glitter, and while the palette contains several Pressed Pigments that are “not intended for use around the immediate eye area,” this shade and E2, another Pressed Glitter, do not have this warning. E4 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a muted, medium-dark berry with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. E4 (Norvina Vol. 4)
LELimited Edition.
E5 (Norvina Vol. 4)
E5 (Norvina Vol. 4) is a rich, medium-dark fuchsia pink with moderate, cooler undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was fantastic, while the texture was slightly drier but not too powdery. I didn’t have any issues applying the product to bare skin as it blended out well and went on evenly. It stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading slightly, but it did leave a stain behind.

I hate that these $60 palettes are made in China. It’s a no from me.
Agreed! I have several palettes made in PRC but prices much less, and with better quality. I understand why the brand feels it has to stay within a certain pricing structure to maintain its status, but it makes it easier to forgo these big palettes. Plus anyone who loves these bright pinks most likely already owns a bunch already.
I am really trying to hold myself back from buying this. This is beautiful!
This is the only one out of the four that I was leaning towards getting. Now, I’m not so sure about that. Not with several of the shades I found most interesting being poor performers in practice. Not at $60. Perhaps on sale, sure I might.
The combination of the multiple cool, bright pinks, unusable glitters, spotty quality, high overall price (though admittedly, not for the # of shades) and likely animal testing = easy pass. Just to see, I counted up all the ones I’d never use based on color/performance – fully 1/3 are useless to me.
What a mammoth palette this one is! And thank you so much for reviewing it so quickly too Christine.
First of all, I think this palette could have been reduced by half by all of the replication of shades, particularly the pink themed ones.
Secondly, the size of this palette makes it so unwieldy and tricky to store.
Thirdly, the ratings are all over the map – very little consistency of quality, as you mentioned.
And with so many shades that are not meant to be used in the eye area, I just don’t know what ABH was thinking of when formulating this palette.
The only shades I liked were the rose gold/neutral ones – of which I have plenty.
It’s a hefty price for a palette made in China and at least half of the shades are really not safe to use.
As similar as all the bright pinks are, I adore them. The warmer neutrals…meh. I may get this if/when it’s discounted.
I’m on the fence…as I have been on all the big palettes. Def would want one to wear every day (and I do wear color almost daily). I can’t decide! Maybe if I got it on sale. Thank you for the honest review!
Shame she didn’t just keep the good shades and throw them in a standard ABH 14-pan. This is far too inconsistent (and too many are pigments/glitters) for me to ever consider picking this one up. So grateful for your reviews!
There are 3 or 4 shades in this that I actually like and they all scored well. But 3 or 4 shades (for which I’ve already got multiple dupes) is not enough to compel me to purchase this.
Christine, am I right in assuming (just from the photos) that the products they say aren’t safe for use in the immediate eye area are one you, personally, don’t apply around your eyes, even for testing purposes? (and I don’t blame you one little bit….)
I personally wear Pressed Pigments on my eye area. I didn’t test the Pressed Glitters on the eye area, though.
Christine, do any of the companies (not just ABH but all the others who say certain shades aren’t for use in the immediate eye area) actually specify what they mean by “the immediate eye area”? Do they mean not to use it as a liner or on the waterline? I guess because my eyesight is a very real concern, I really wonder about this. Have you heard anything about how close is too close? I think it would be only responsible, when a company releases EYEshadows that aren’t to be used close to the eyes, for them to give a bit of specific information.
It is a codified term by FDA:
Eye-area use: You may not use a color additive in the area of the eye unless the regulation for that additive specifically permits such use [21 CFR 70.5(a)]. The “area of the eye” includes “the area enclosed within the circumference of the supra-orbital ridge and the infra-orbital ridge, including the eyebrow, the skin below the eyebrow, the eyelids and the eyelashes, and conjunctival sac of the eye, the eyeball, and the soft areolar tissue that lies within the perimeter of the infra-orbital ridge” [21 CFR 70.3(s)]. Although there are color additives approved for use in products such as mascara and eyebrow pencils, none is approved for dyeing the eyebrows or eyelashes.

From my experience, the color additives used in “Pressed Pigments” are approved for use on the eyes in the EU (but so is PET glitter!). I recall that MUFE would say it was okay in Canada but not US, but last time I tried to figure that out, it seemed like Canada and the US seemed more in sync, but I’m not sure what the current status is off hand or specifically on these ingredients.
As suspected, I have dupes for all of the shades which grabbed my eye in this palette. I love that A4 brown though.. such a lovely shade and the dupe I have leans more yellow.
It’s really pretty, and good enough to make me think about, yet has enough duds to give me pause. I’ll probably skip this, and if it ends up going on sale later, maybe I’ll grab it then.
All I want in life is an ABH palette with complex neutrals, greens, mustard-y yellows and antique golds… A girl can dream I guess.
And one that performs better than Subculture I guess…
Oh absolutely, subculture looked like it was a nightmare to work with, and also contained too much blue and warm tones for my personal preference. But my sultry palette is amazing, I would love it if they did a green/neutrals palette with that formula!
Your beautiful eye look tempted me to consider purchasing this palette, but your review makes it an easy pass. Thanks for saving me money, Christine!
I like the way this palette looks but why so many hot pinks that look the same on the skin?
Haven’t purchased any in the series and this rating just made that remain as is. A shame, I really liked this one.
I really really wish brands would would stop jumbling up the shades in these huge palettes! I feel like palettes are so much more approachable with specific shades grouped together and/or arranged by color and tone.
