Tom Ford Beauty Moss Agate Shade and Illuminate Face and Eye Palette ($155.00 for 0.49 oz.) includes four, shimmery eyeshadows paired with a copper highlighter and medium-dark brown contour powder. I struggled with the sculpting shade, which was stiffer and more challenging to blend, and the blue eyeshadow was decent but not spectacular.

The highlighter was a lot more pigmented than marketed but I imagine that isn’t a deal-breaker, especially as this type of gel-powder formula makes it easy to use a lighter hand for sheerer coverage if preferred. Three of the four eyeshadows were very nice, though.

It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Moss Agate #4 is a blackened green with neutral undertones and warmer, golden sparkle. It had good color coverage in a single applied dry, though it needed to be applied with a dampened brush for full coverage in one layer–it was buildable otherwise. The green base came through more noticeably when applied wet, too. The consistency was soft, slightly powdery compared to the other shades in the palette, but it wasn’t dry or prone to sheering out. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before signs of wear were noticeably.

Rose Cashmere #2 is a medium pinky-coral with subtle, gold and pink micro-shimmer that gave it a pearl finish. It had good coverage in one layer when applied dry, but it was lighter and not as true-to-pan in color. When applied with a dampened brush, it had rich coverage that was true-to-pan in color. The texture was soft, slightly drier than other shades in the palette but still had a denser, firmer texture that wasn’t powdery (but wasn’t difficult to pick up with a brush). It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Rose Cashmere #3 is a bright, light brown with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The eyeshadow had excellent pigmentation that applied well dry as well as with a dampened brush. The consistency was silky, finely-milled, and smooth to the touch and felt almost cream-like–it seemed more yielding than the brand’s typical gel-powder formula. This shade lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Rose Cashmere #4

Rose Cashmere #4 is a light, golden brown with moderate, warm undertones and a bright, metallic finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer with it applying a bit better with a dry brush over a dampened brush (which seemed to make it more emollient). The consistency was silky-smooth, yielding but not powdery with a denser, almost cream-like feel. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Rose Cashmere Sculpt

Rose Cashmere Sculpt is a light-medium briwn with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had medium coverage with a firmer, slightly stiff texture; I felt like I had to use a heavier hand to work with this–beyond what I’d normally use for this type of gel-powder formula. The color was buildable, so if higher coverage was required, it could be achieved but the stiffness made it less blendable. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Tom Ford Beauty Moonlit Violet Shade and Illuminate Face and Eye Palette ($155.00 for 0.49 oz.) is a new palette that appears to exclusive to Nordstrom at this time. It includes four eyeshadows, one highlighter, and one sculpting powder. The eyeshadows were the stars of the palette; the formula here felt extra-smooth, more finely-milled and “melty” when applied to lids, which gave them a more seamless look. The highlighter/sculpting powder were decent to good but felt a bit denser/firmer. I would have loved to have seen the eyeshadows released as a standalone quad with the highlighter/sculpting powders released as as a duo.

ColourPop Garden Variety 15-Pan Pressed Powder Shadow ($20.00 for 0.60 oz.) is a new, limited edition 15-pan palette that includes six matte eyeshadows, seven shimmery eyeshadows, and two sparkly “mattes.” It was a decent palette, and the issues it had were mostly around powderiness, fallout, and some shades were sheerer than marketed.

It wasn’t difficult to work with, though, so for someone who doesn’t mind some fallout during application, it likely won’t be a big disappointment. There was a good variety in depth and finish, so it seemed like a versatile color story, which was nice to see.

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Herbivore is a soft yellow with strong, warm orange undertones and fine sparkle over a matte finish. The sparkle didn’t translate too much during application. Best Buds is a light, springy chartreuse green with warm, golden undertones and a sparkling finish. It had good color coverage in a single layer, which could be intensified to opaque coverage if applied with a dampened brush or a fingertip.

The texture was soft and more loosely-pressed, so I’d recommend using a lighter hand to pick up product to avoid potential for fallout. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably on me.

Don’t Leaf is a light orange with strong, warm undertones and flecks of pink and gold sparkle. It had semi-opaque color payoff in a single layer, which wasn’t buildable. The texture was lightly emollient, almost wet to the touch, and felt like a Super Shock Shadow to me, so while it felt creamier in the pan, it felt more powder-like as soon as it came into contact with my skin. It lasted nicely for 10 hours without fading or creasing on me.

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented.

From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones).

The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable.  They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with.

The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply.  Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter.  They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter).

Over the Bloom

Over the Bloom is a brighter, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and flecks of gold sparkle over a matte finish. There was more of a smattering of sparkle, so it didn’t translate during application (I’d guess it dropped on the way or got trapped in the brush as I didn’t notice fallout!). It had good pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer. The consistency was lightly powdery but blendable. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Stay Sharp

Stay Sharp is a light brown with strong, warm golden undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had excellent color coverage in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out with ease along the edges. The texture was soft, smooth, and velvety–denser and less powdery than most of the mattes in the palette–which made it a cinch to work with. It wore well for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Succa 4 U

Succa 4 U is a muted, medium-dark rosy brown with warm undertones and flecks of gold sparkle over a matte finish. It was more packed with gold sparkle than most of the brand’s sparkle-plus-matte finish, so a fair amount translated to the lid during application. Unfortunately, they sit more on the surface and are easily blended well past wherever they were initially applied. It lasted well for eight hours but had moderate fallout over time.

Stuck On You is a deep berry with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was buildable to mostly opaque coverage with a second. The texture was moderately powdery and was prone to sheering out a bit, so I’d definitely suggest using this over a primer. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Clay Day is a dusty, medium-dark coral with moderate, warm undertones with flecks of silver sparkle over a matte finish. There was enough sparkle that some of it translated during application, but it didn’t bind with the underlying color, so it was prone to migration and falling out over time.

ColourPop Whole Nine Yards Pressed Powder Blush ($10.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with moderate, warm undertones and larger, gold micro-sparkle over a satin finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, slightly powdery texture that seemed a touch drier to the touch, though it didn’t read dry or dusty when applied to my skin.

This shade wasn’t quite as blendable as would be ideal, so I’d recommend applying it over powdered (or more matte) skin to ensure it didn’t stick too strongly to any particular area during the initial lay down of product. It wore well for eight hours before showing signs of fading.
