Grande Pro (Vol. 1)

Viseart Grande Pro (Vol. 1) Grande Pro Palette ($175.00 for 2.10 oz.) contains 30 eyeshadows with six repromoted from previous palettes and 24 that are new and exclusive to the palette. The palette is going to work best for someone who prefers various tones of neutrals, more muted tones, some deeper, smokier shades, and tends to build up their pigmentation. The texture of many shades was soft and blendable but a few were stiff, grainy, or more difficult to blend out on the skin. I found that most shades that did not seem that pigmented were slightly more pigmented in practice or else they built up within two to three layers. For the most part, the palette was easy to use and I didn’t notice some of the pigmentation issues that seemed more obvious from just swatching alone.

For a Viseart palette, it had a lot of inconsistency in pigmentation across shades than I find normal for the brand. The warmer neutrals tended to perform the best while the deeper shades seemed weaker, though the purple-hued shades were also on the weak side. In the past, their deeper palettes (like Cool Mattes and Dark Mattes) have not performed quite as well as their lighter, neutral palettes (like Neutral Mattes and Warm Mattes) but not as inconsistent as I experienced with this particular palette.

All that being said, I did find it extremely easy to use the majority of the shades when I paired it with some of the glitter-tastic palettes that released this holiday season. I didn’t feel as let down when I was actually using the eyeshadows on my eyes as I often used the eyeshadows as crease, outer lid, and transition shades. For the price, I’d be more inclined to get two of their regular palettes ($160) instead, though.

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #1

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #1 is a light beige with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer with a smooth, lightly powdery texture that was finely-milled and blendable. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Formula Overview

-

The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be "pigment[ed]" with "smooth and even application" that is "long-lasting." The matte shades are typically semi-opaque to opaque but buildable with soft, velvety textures that can sometimes be a little powdery or slightly firm, depending on the shade. I find that the mattes are often best suited to someone who likes control over pigmentation and may prefer to build up color; they regularly perform better in practice than just swatched on the arm as well.

The shimmer shades range from satin to metallic, and the more metallic shades tend to feel creamier to the touch, while the satin ones have a fine pearl to them that looks almost melted on the lid once blended out. Both the mattes and shimmers are blendable and easy to work with. Most of Viseart's eyeshadows wear between seven and nine hours on me.

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #2 is a light-medium, peachy orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff with a soft, slightly dusty texture that was blendable but did not sheer out too readily, so it was easy to use on the lid. The color lasted for eight and a half hours on me.

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #10

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #10 is a medium brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was fantastic, while the texture was velvety, smooth, and easy to blend out on the lid. It lasted for eight and a half hours on me.

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #11

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #11 is a deep brown with neutral undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff. The eyeshadow felt slightly dusty in the pan, which seemed to make it more prone to sheering out, though I was able to get opaque coverage through layering. This shade stayed on well for eight and a half hours before starting to fade.

It was richly pigmented with a firmer, denser texture that was slightly grainy to the touch but seemed to apply to the lid and blend out just fine, so I never noticed anything amiss texture-wise in practice. Mulberry (Amethyst #3)

Amethyst #3 is a dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was buildable to opaque coverage with a second layer. The consistency was soft, blendable, and just a touch thin but it did not seem to impede the actual application as it blended out without issue.

Bougainvillea (Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #20)

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #20 is a medium purple with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium pigmentation that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage with two to three layers. The consistency was a bit firmer, so it was not as easy to pickup product with a brush. I was surprised that it was easy to blend when I wore it. The color stayed on well for eight and a half hours but stained slightly.

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #21

Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #21 is a blackened purple with neutral-to-cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. There were very fine shimmers strewn thorugh it, though it looked like a matte finish on the lid. The texture was soft, blendable, and not too soft or too firm in the pan. It had opaque coverage that lasted for eight and a half hours on me.

Blanc White (Bright Editorial #1)

Bright Editorial #1 is a bright, cool white with a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which wasn’t that buildable without a tacky base underneath it. The consistency was soft, lightly powdery but was blendable on the lid. The cool tone of it did turn warmer shades grayish due to slight fallout during application. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Charbon is a medium-dark black with a semi-matte finish and neutral-to-warm undertones. Thank you so much! I’ve been stalking the site for a review of this and the Pat McGrath palettes. I almost broke down and preordered this yesterday, but thankfully I didn’t. A B- isn’t worth that $175+tax price tag. I plan to get the Brights and Neutral palette from Sephora. I think I’m going to grab the cool tone 6 pan palettes from Coloured Raine. Christine, do you plan on reviewing the new Pat McGrath & Coloured Raine palettes? If not, I’ll fill out the formal request from. Thanks again for all that you do!

Hi Jessica,

I posted swatches of all of the products you requested already, which means I am definitely hoping to review but can’t commit to whether I will, or when I will review. I’m very sorry – I just would hate to give any date and then not follow through on that.

Oh it’s no problem, I know you’re swamped. I just wasn’t 100% sure. I know there are times when you’ve shown swatches of things, but not done complete reviews of the item (probably due to time constraints or not enough interest). I can wait! Thanks Christine!

Ouch, a couple Fs… I have to say that I was expecting better from the brand. But I can see how it would work better on the eye than swatched.

What a never ending palette to review Christine! You are fantastic!

I don’t really like this palette for several reasons – too large, too many similar shades (it could have been half the size), inconsistant quality, shades don’t work for me and all matte. Plus, it is so expensive.

Calling a matte black Charbon kind of seems like they’re poking fun at MAC Carbon.

This is nice but looks like a pro palette. I think most ordinary people wouldn’t get a lot of use out of many of the shades.

I’m sure Viseart didn’t think about MAC when the thought of the name Carbon. The element carbon is black, so it makes sense to pick it as a name. It is a pro palette, majority of their palettes are pro palettes.

So disappointed with the purples, but the pinks are delightful. I did pre-order this, and my experience is that I like Viseart much more on my actual lid and over a primer than I do swatched, so I have my fingers crossed that I will enjoy it. Honestly though, I feel like this is a little more of a collectors item than anything else (which I am overall ok with – I’m definitely a collector).

It’s not *terrible*. Neither is it superb. I just don’t see myself getting this one. For one thing, I already have plenty of really wonderful mattes, along with mattes like some of the not so great ones, too. I’m much more inclined to wait for another Muse sale and get Dark Mattes Palette with something else non-matte.

I do have to say this, though; you did one truly amazing job getting this review up as quickly and thoroughly as you did, Christine! Thank you so much!

Amazing that you were able to review this.

I might cancel my preorder and instead go with the Neutral and Cool mattes. I expected the blue grays to perform poorly (when are they ever good?), but some of the misses for the deep mattes are upsetting.

However, the intensifier shades are really nice and the pinks and purples outperformed my expectations. I think I’ll keep my order because I always prime anyways.

What’s your application style? Do you tend to use less and build up or are you always trying to get opaque coverage in one layer on the lid? I think the former will make the palette pleasant for you to use (especially with primer to help a bit!). A lot of the colors can be packed onto the lid for a more solid application but other formulas will do that better (overall! some shades in this palette do that well, just not all).

I think I’ll cancel. Some of the shades are pretty good, but I sounds like I want more color payoff than what these offer. (I intended to use this as a drag matte palette). They seem great for beauty makeup, but I have Mac shadows for that.

Thank you for your insight.

Christine, again thank you for this amazing and complete review. And your last comment has me wondering– I am older and don’t have oily lids and tend to use more hydrating primers, color correctors, or cream eye shadow bases on the lid prior to a powder shadow application. I might layer different shades on the lid but I never really pack on multiple coats of the same shadow, a. because I generally don’t need to and B. because I am concerned about the lid looking dry; and c because I tried to maintain some brightness/lightness on the lid due to lid shape etc. I also use deep shades as liners. The whole top row of this palette I would probably never wear, so I am more concerned about the bottom four rows. The bottom three are cool toned which is great and the mustard row also falls into the zone of warm shades I can neutralize and use because they don’t fight with my sallow undertones. Nevertheless, I am wondering how this palette would work for me. I guess I could use the under pigmented shades over a neutral base for a subtler eye look. And use the deeper shades that work as liners or even on the brow. Am still undecided. But any further insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

First of all, thank you Christine for the outstanding review!

Some shades don’t perform as good as I wanted them to but I think I will be able to make it work. I like to build the pigmentation for bolder colours and always prime (because I am extra and want my eyeshadow to last 14 hours perfectly lol). Plus, I use the cool matte palette regularly and have no issues with it (even though like you said, it applies differently than the warmer shares too) and really like their finish on the lid.

I love the fact that the pans are easily removable. I am currently depotting my 12pans. My plan would be to build mini palettes like their theory palettes (and change them often) for the weekdays so that I don’t have to open 3-4 palette in the morning when I have to get ready.

Nothing wrong with primer – I wish brands said to prime for all products, seriously! My life would be so much easier. Even just applying would be soooo much easier!

If I wasn’t testing for longevity, I’d definitely wear primer under makeup 24/7!

Would you say as a whole there is close overlap with the 12 pan pallets? I was planning on picking up 3 during VIB sale. I would love to have one palette but not worth quality issues and I trust Sephora? Basically just confused. I have 2 6 pans and 1. 12 and I love them.

Muse Beauty is totally reliable – I’ve worked them as an affiliate, and before that, I had successfully bought from them a few times.

I think that if you had all the 12-pans, you wouldn’t need this one, if that helps! I’d say it sort of depended on which three you were getting! You can compare any two palettes on the Dupe List, though 🙂
