Too Faced Chocolate Gold Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Chocolate Gold
Too Faced Chocolate Gold Chocolate Bar Eye Palette ($49.00 for 0.54 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that features 16 eyeshadows–13 with shimmer and three that are matte. I think that they could have gone with a more satin-to-pearl finish on the lightest shade (Rollin’ in Dough), as it would pair better with the rest of the shades and could be used to lighten and fade the edges of richer shades in the palette without causing any grayness or tamping down the shimmery finish. Otherwise, the palette was pretty easy to use, lasted well, and had good pigmentation. There were a few shimmery shades that applied more evenly or more intensely using a dampened brush, or if one used primer first.

Money Bags
Money Bags is a medium green with soft, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, thinner texture that felt drier to the touch, though it did not appear dry or dusty on the lid. I felt like the sheen on this faded after a few minutes, so it tended to look a bit muddy if I wasn’t careful. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Chocolate Gold
Chocolate Gold is a rich, medium-dark honeyed gold with warm, yellow undertones and a metallic sheen. The texture was smooth, moderately dense but not too thick or too stiff in the pan, and it yielded opaque coverage in a single layer. The eyeshadow blended out well and lasted for eight hours on me.

Rich Girl
Rich Girl is a pewtery gold with warm undertones and a glittery finish. It had good pigmentation, but it was prone to sheering out when applied with a dry brush as there did not seem to be enough binder in the powder. When I used a dampened brush, it had more opaque coverage, applied more evenly, and stayed in place better. On its own, it lasted for seven hours but had moderate fallout.

Decadent
Decadent is a deep black with cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It functioned as a matte finish since the shimmer was barely-there and seemed to help the powder blend more readily on the lid. It had rich color coverage in a single layer but remained surprisingly blendable for how deep and pigmented the shade was. The color stayed on well for eight hours on me.

New Money
New Money is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia pink with subtle, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. Classy and Sassy
Classy and Sassy is a medium-dark, rosy bronze with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly to the lid, but the texture was too dense and on the thicker side, which resulted in application that didn’t work as well with brushes. Livin' Lavish

Drippin' Diamonds
Drippin’ Diamonds is a bright silver with a metallic finish and some micro-glitter. The texture was drier and chunkier, which resulted in more uneven application. I would recommend using a dampened brush with this shade, which helped the powder combine better and then helped it apply more smoothly to the lid. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours but had some fallout over time.

Rollin' in Dough
Rollin’ in Dough is a light beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. While the powder had a velvety, finely-milled feel, it was on the powdery side and could easily drop product below the intended area (e.g. when I applied it to my brow bone, I had to be extremely careful to avoid contaminating the rest of my look). It wore well for seven hours on me.

I am glad this palette looks a little better than most of TF recent offerings. Several of the shades are really pretty but not anything very unique. I am going to pass on this but I am sincerely happy that it is better and that many of the looks I have seen on YT videos have turned out really lovely. I do like the look of the palette in terms of the deep brown with the gold running across. I think that is very pretty.
I won’t be purchasing this because I can’t justify another palette, but I do hope the higher quality is indicative of a change of direction for Too Faced!
Too Faced gonna make me cry today! This is my favorite out of all the iterations of “chocolate” they’ve done. It is just beautiful! However, we know that me getting this would be stupidity and foolhardiness on my part. *Sigh*
The good news is that I did see dupes that I already have for many of these, albeit scattered all around between palettes and singles. But I’m still sad.
I just got this yesterday, and have only swatched on my arms, but pretty excited! Probably the best Too Faced shadow palette I’ve ever swatched. 2 or 3 of the shadows are a bit stiff, but think will be fixable with primer or damp brush, but so far, I’m not seeing any obvious duds. Lots of pretty colors, nice mix of mattes/shimmers and cooler/warmer shades. And love the chocolate & gold theme, 2 of my fave things in the world!
Wow – this seems like the best palette that Too Faced has put out in awhile. Gorgeous shades and a wide variety of colours to suit everyone. I especially love the different shades of green – the forest and the khaki/olive.
Beautiful eye looks Christine.
Um!!! Having mixed reviews about buying. I like the overall palette but definitely mpre week shades than i wanted. I think i will cave and try it out. Thanks for the awesome review Christine.
To my surprise, I’m liking this much more than I thought I would. Quite a few nice colours in here, though I still think I’ll pass on it. Christine, does it have any smell to it….chocolate? molten gold (whatever that smells like)? Ferrero Rocher (chocolate wrapped in gold paper)???
Too many repeat bronze shades, they maybe different in person. But the sake of an eye look, they are interchangeable ?
It is nice that Too Faced got a good quality for this one, but I think if there’s going to be a glitter or flashy palette there should be more unique colors, not so many shades of bronze/gold you know? But it is called the gold palette after all ?
Well it’s a pass for me, but at least its not because the palette is poor quality. I’m glad for those who like Too Faced that its gotten a decent score.
This is lovely but the timing of its release makes it extremely unlikely that I will purchase. There has been too much competition from other spectacular palettes for my budget to handle any more until after the holidays and into the new year. If they decide to make it a permanent item then I’d say that it would eventually make its way to me as I love the whole “Chocolate” line and while I have dupes for many of these shades having them in a single pretty palette is appealing. 🙂
My husband has hinted at getting me this. I hope he has. i own some shimmery colours but nowhere near as vibrant as these so excited to try.
So excited to get this, Too Faced has finally broken this down….
It’s great to see a TF palette get a good review! Chocolate Gold is a very pretty and well-coordinated palette, but for me, it has too many shimmers and not enough mattes, and I have dupes of the shades I like best.
This is a beautiful palette and it’s the only thing lately that’s really tempted me from Too Faced, but I think I’m going to skip b/c I really cannot justify another palette. I have a few dupes and overall it’s not that unique. If Livin’ Lavish had been a true red shimmer shadow, I would have jumped at this palette. I’m pretty sick of TF popping in a random fuchsia shade in their palettes.
ETA: I meant New Money, not Livin’ Lavish.
Temptation averted for now. I was really eyeing this one but some of the shades I was really interested in I have dupes for. Plus try to stay on the LE no buy this coming year as well.
I ordered this with my $20 off $50 at Sephora! I couldn’t pass it up for that price and I’ve been wanting a mostly metallic palette for a while.
I like to colors in this palette, too bad three of the more interesting colors got a C.
I got this Saturday, so I’m glad to see you gave it a good grade. It swatched beautifully in the store. I can’t wait to play with it. It’s nice to know Too Faced can still make a good palette.
This looks solid overall (some issues could probably be improved with finger application or a glitter glue primer underneath)! I’ll be skipping because at this point in my makeup life I have dupes, but a few years ago I probably would have been all over this. Nothing particularly unique in there, but they’re pretty metallics, nonetheless. I think the packaging is kind of tacky, but it’s Too Faced, so… not surprised.
Ooh! Also. There needs to be a light matte highlight shade and a light shimmery shade. I love everything about the Naked Heat palette except that the metallic shimmer shades are all mid-tone or dark.
Is it just me or is this the first tooface item in forever that looks worth my money? I’m not going to get it, but still, I feel they are stepping it up and I like it.
I normally don’t care for metallic palettes but I had to get this. It’s so beautiful! I couldn’t resist those jewel tones. I do wish it was a little more colorful but I ended up getting the Clover Palette too so I’m covered lol
So I bought the UD heavy metal pallete and yet totally fell in love with theis Chocolate gold! What do I do? Please help me decide. They seem to have very similar shades but not exact. Please help me pick one!
UD will give you more color combinations for your money, I think. I prefer UD’s formula myself but don’t have great luck with Too Faced’s formula overall.
Okay! Im skipping this one then! Thank you so much Christine! I always check out your reviews before buying any makeup. You’re the best ever! Thanks for all that you do! ❤️
I really like this palette , and plan to get it.
Soooo I bought it and have played with it twice. I’m still on the fence because the matte shades don’t really work on my skin tone so another palette is needed, I’m going to give it one more shot but it might be returned ;(
Is there a lot of fall out? I only have the original chocolate bar – and I’m thinking of selling my bon bons palette to buy this…
If I experienced issues with fallout, it would be noted by the respective shade!
I do really like this palette, being that I love shimmery colors. The whole smelling like chocolate thing, I could definitely do without and honestly don’t really get why eyeshadow needs to smell like a treat. …
I felt compelled to comment because I used drippin’ diamonds and gold dipped to create a fun look, and the pigment lessened more and more every hour until it looked like just a sparkly, solid shade instead of 2 combined for a fun look. So as much as I do like the palette, the color definitely fades while you wear it.
