Editor's Review

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is available in six finishes, which are primarily distinguished by level of sheen, shimmer content, and coverage. I didn't notice any scent or taste. Mega Mattes are the thinnest and have the most “cling” as they are drier and more matte (but most are semi-matte and not a totally flat matte) and can be drying, though they are longer-wearing.

Comfort Mattes are creamier, a little denser, with richer color payoff on average (they are the most pigmented out of the finishes), and have a satin finish that is fairly comfortable to wear, usually lightly hydrating, and longer-wearing.

Creams are usually softer and creamier, though not too soft (they don’t mush or break from the base easily), with some being tackier and stiffer in the tube until... Read More.

Comfort Mattes are creamier, a little denser, with richer color payoff on average (they are the most pigmented out of the finishes), and have a satin finish that is fairly comfortable to wear, usually lightly hydrating, and longer-wearing.

Creams are usually softer and creamier, though not too soft (they don’t mush or break from the base easily), with some being tackier and stiffer in the tube until they warm up against the lips; they have good color payoff, are hydrating, and are comfortable to wear but have more typical wear (four to six hours–six hours for deeper/richer shades like a red).

Sheers and Sheer Shimmers have a more balm-like consistency that feels a little thinner but is wetter/more emollient than Mega Mattes, so ultimately, they feel quite different applied; they have sheerer coverage, though more semi-sheer to semi-opaque than very sheer, and have the shortest wear time at two to fours with light hydration.

Metallized is the most shimmery of the finishes, though some of the other finishes have shades that are actually as shimmery (to me), but the Metallized formula has a thinner, more emollient base that isn’t as dense or as cream-like as the Creams; they feel more like the Sheers but a bit heavier and more pigmented (but seem to run semi-opaque to opaque, not always fully opaque) with average wear (four to five hours), light hydration.

The color is beautiful, even though it doesn't look beautiful on me. Purples, especially ones with a white base can be patchy and difficult, but this is buttery and goes on smooth. You can sheer it out or build it up. I like to wear it as a lip topper or mixed with other shades since it on its own isn't the most flattering on my skin tone.

A nice blue red for every day use. I found this lipstick to be a little drier than others with the same formula, therefore more difficult to apply. Since I don't enjoy applying the product I don't wear it as often even though the color is nice. I would recommend if you like the color or formula, but I don't think the color is especially unique and you could probably find a dupe for a better price.

A great nude brown for the summer. This lipstick is creamy, pigmented and apply evenly without too much or too little slip. Not particularly long lasting and doesn't last through eating or drinking, but most bullet lipsticks don't. I would highly recommend.

HG lipstick. Soft and nice on the lops. I really wish they could make this permanent. I just want it to last a little longer.

Ravenswood...this has been on my radar for a while, but I thought too plain, duped, and from photos maybe a little lighter than I'd want. Well, I had a coupon :-) and got it. I've worn it daily since (about a week). On me, it's like a deep nude, but a very good deep nude! One of my MANY "lipstick issues" is darkness. I prefer a certain darkness level in my everyday lipsticks, regardless of color. Interestingly, this is a very similar "color" to Naked, but it is about one shade darker than Naked, and maybe a touch more brown, which is wonderful. Naked is just barely wearable for me, it is almost too light, but, I like the color. With Ravenswood, being a step darker, it is perfect. Oh, and it leaves a bit of stain!!! Love.

This is a super comfortable bright red, but it was a tad more orange than I was hoping for. If you like an orange-y red, this is great for you. It looks good on my NC35 skin, but really wasn't my favourite. I think I'll still need to search for that perfect classic red lip.

I first tried this from a blister pack sample just on a whim. I didn't think for a second it'd be flattering, but it turned out to be a great color for me and totally wearable even as an every day shade. The glitter is bigger than I'd like it to be, and it does take a little bit of building, but it's otherwise a wonderful find. It's nicely moisturizing and lasts for several hours at a time. It works okay alone, but as someone else mentioned, this works even better when layered over another color. I personally enjoy layering it over a nude or brown pencil.

It's okay. Doesn't last very long but it's just... okay.

I bought this to try the new mega matte formula. I found it much more comfortable to wear than I expected. It applies smoothly and wears very well especially for such a dark lipstick.

This is my favourite blue based red lipstick. It's beautiful, applies opaque and evenly and has got amazing staying power! The only downside is that it doesn't apply nicely, it tugs a bit but if you can live with it, it's a great lipstick.

I like Amulet on my nc25 - ish skin tone. Slightly vampy and stark, but still very wearable, fine without liner, and reapplies easily as needed. Wear is good... I am very hard on lipstick for some reason, and this shade and formula (metallized) wears off safely (no lip line bleed, no ring - around - lips etc. ), and is within the same color-family as my (much much lighter) muted lips, so even worn off whatever is left blends into and enhances my pale lips. Also IF you are a fan of Wet n Wild 666 lipliner (aka "Brandywine"), you might want to check Amulet out. If you like one, you might like the other. (On me, they are almost identical... Amulet perhaps a bit lighter? But such different consistencies.)

As someone who is super bored of the matte lip trend, I was really excited to see this ridiculously glittery color in the big Vice lipstick launch. I just wish it wasn't so aggressively pink! Or that some of the other metallic finish lipsticks were this glittery. I'd love to have a crazy glitter red, purple, or bronze. Over all this is a pretty good lipstick, but it could be more opaque. I suspect it would look best if you apply a pink liner to the entire lip as a base.

This is 100% my go-to natural shade. I love the color and how it really just adds to my natural lip color. To really make it last all day, I would recommend a lip liner in a similar shade as well as a primer underneath. However, that is mainly due to the sheer nature. It definitely needs to be reapplied during the day. One thing I do love is the amount of shimmer. It packs just enough glamour, but still feels very adult and not like some dollar store lipstick you bought when you were a kid. Overall, I would recommend this product!

Out of ~12 Vice lipsticks I purchased, this was the only one to get returned. Checkmate applied unevenly and instantly settled in my lip creases. Shame because is such a beautiful color, but Tryst and Phone Call are similar enough to justify not keeping Checkmate too.

I tried this one first out of the 24-shade sampler, and I didn't really read the "sheer shimmer" description for the shade before I applied it, but I was pleasantly surprised by how it looked and ended up purchasing the full size. It does take a couple of swipes to build to the color I want, but the color I get is just gorgeous. This is my new favorite. It's nicely hydrating and wears very comfortably. I only wish it lasted a bit longer.

I loved this lipstick. It is such an easy color to wear, and can be worn with so many looks. Its also very comfortable to wear. It's definitely my most reached-for color right now.

I placed a sephora order and got the 24 sampler pack. There is one shade out of the 24 that I would maybe consider buying. I was really let down. The formula is nothing like the original UD lippies. They are not creamy and buttery. I could only stand them on my lips for maybe a half hour. I really wanted to like them. The shade selection is awesome and the metallized ones (Amulet and Gubby) are my favorite color and formula out of the bunch but even they aren't close to UD's "old" formulas. :(

I was able to test this one out from Sephora's 24 shade Vice deluxe sampler. It'sthe first shade out of the 24 that I tried and it took half of the sample to build up and make the color show. The consistency is hands down smooth and non-sticky. I thought the formula is the highest selling point of the line given this shade and of course, the sheer glitter finish. The color payoff may be lipgloss quality, with only a little bit more pigment so if you're not into that, this may not be for you.
