Editor's Review

Urban Decay Hex Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a "deep red wine [with a Mega Matte finish]." It's a deep red with warmer undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that covered evenly, though the texture was firmer and had some drag to it when I applied it. This shade is more comfortable to apply with a lip brush. On me, it wore for over seven hours, left a reddish stain behind, and it was moderately drying. MAC Unknown Pleasures (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS Bette (P, $34.00) is lighter, warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Buxom Voodoo Spice (P, $22.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Bite Beauty Cerise (P, $24.00) is lighter, more muted (95% similar). MAC Dreaming of You (LE, $19.00) is cooler (90% similar). Maybelline Burgundy Blush (P, $7.99) is warmer (95% similar). Illamasqua Growl (P, $24.00) is warmer (95% similar). NARS Charlotte (P, $34.00) is cooler (90% similar). Bite Beauty Liquorice (DC, $24.00) is cooler, glossier (90% similar). NARS 413 BLKR (DC, $28.00) is lighter (95% similar). Estee Lauder Desirous (P, $32.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Shiseido Curious Cassis (RD620) (DC, $28.00) is cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Nikita (Right) (LE, ) is lighter, brighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Diva (P, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Chanel Attraction (494) (P, $37.00) is more shimmery, warmer, glossier (90% similar). Chanel Rouge Audace (59) (LE, $45.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Sephora Me First (38) (P, $13.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). Urban Decay Hex (P, $19.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). NARS Josephine (LE, $34.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Blow (210) (P, $30.00) is lighter (95% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

A deep, blackened red. This shade flatters my pale skin beautifully, and I can imagine other skin tones looking great in this shade as well. It's a little stiff to apply, but it doesn't skip and is fully opaque in a single swipe.

I bought this to try the new mega matte formula. I found it much more comfortable to wear than I expected. It applies smoothly and wears very well especially for such a dark lipstick.
