Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Rose Gold Remastered
Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.59 oz.) is a new, permanent palette that’s a reformulation of the original Rose Gold palette. All the shades are updated, but there are some shades that have been removed and/or updated for this palette. The matte eyeshadows were more pigmented and easier to blend out than the original formula. I didn’t have any noteworthy issues with them–a few could have been more pigmented but were buildable, and I didn’t struggle with any of the shades. About half of the palette was good, but the other half was more inconsistent and problematic.
The shimmer formula is completely different (except Moon Dust, which was more like a typical shimmery, powder eyeshadow), and I don’t know that that’s better or worse–I actually think that the shimmers come out better on the lid, but the formulation isn’t like a traditional eyeshadow and really does have to be used with fingertips. Some of the shimmer shades seemed to work with stiffer, flat synthetic brushes (pressing, patting, and pushing motions were best). The shimmer eyeshadows felt more like a cream-powder hybrid (that felt more like a cream than a powder in the end). Like a lot of cream eyeshadows, fingertips tend to apply the most coverage and do the best for diffusing and blending edges, but that obviously yields less precision if one wants to use more than one shade on the lid.
I’ve seen chatter about the shimmer eyeshadows being hollow, but I didn’t find that to be true–they seemed denser and reactive like a cream eyeshadow, e.g. if I pressed on it or pushed at the surface, it left behind an indent and stayed that way. I didn’t have any pan showing in any of the shades I used despite swatching and using the palette multiples times. More of my shimmer shades were raised along the edge of the pan (almost like they were overflowing) with a slight indentation in the center (almost like the product settled as it set).
What I’m most concerned about is whether the creamier shimmer shades will dry out over time, as there were a couple that I found much harder to work with (fingertips, brushes, etc.) as they felt noticeably drier/thinner compared to other shades. I worked with MAC 242s for the shimmers for the looks shown above. They are harder to use than the typical shimmer eyeshadow, though they seemed to stay more reflective and foiled–but one could just use a metallic, powder eyeshadow with a dampened brush to achieve the same result with less effort. The brand stated that the “metallic shadows can be applied easily with a brush,” which I don’t think is that accurate–only a couple worked well with brushes–and that this statement is more reflective of the formula: “for a more amplified finish, apply using your finger.” (Notice how they mentioned finish, not color payoff, which suggests that it would be more metallic with fingertip application, not more pigmented.)
The brand would have been better off releasing a palette of just the Melted Metals as a cream eyeshadow palette to be used with fingertips or include a specific applicator for best results because marketing the formula as “easily” used with a brush is just not the case. If I was just patting on some of the shades on the center of my lid with my fingertip, they would be a lot easier to use, but when almost half the palette is like that, you lose a lot of the cohesive value of having so many in a single palette.

Dubai (Remastered)
Dubai (Remastered) is a deep gold with warm, olive undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation when applied with fingertips and semi-opaque, buildable coverage when I used a brush (MAC 242). The consistency was creamier than most of the shimmer shades in the palette, which I think contributed to it being much easier to work with and to apply to my lid. It adhered particularly well to my lid and gave a very intense, metallic shine that stayed in place for almost eight and a half hours (without fallout!).

Fling (Remastered)
Fling (Remastered) is a medium-dark, coppery red with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff when applied with a fingertip but had more medium coverage when applied with a brush (MAC 242) that was hard to build as it seemed to get patchy when I tried to build it up. The texture was smooth to the touch but thin and a little drier/stiffer than I’d consider ideal for a cream eyeshadow. It lasted for eight and a half hours on me before fading (but not creasing).

Trust Fund (Remastered)
Trust Fund (Remastered) is a medium copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had opaque pigmentation that applied that way whether I used fingertips or a brush (MAC 242). The consistency was creamier and slightly more emollient than most shades in the palette, which made it a lot easier to work with when I used a brush. It wore well for eight and a half hours before creasing very faintly on me.

Rose Gold (Remastered)
Rose Gold (Remastered) is a medium, peachy copper base with pink-to-copper shifting sparkle paired with a metallic finish. The texture felt creamier initially but seemed to get a bit drier with use, and this was the shade that made me particularly concerned about just how this palette would fair over the months with extended use and exposure to air. It blended out decently but took some finagling to make it come together. It had medium coverage when applied with fingertips and less with brushes (wouldn’t recommend using brushes with this one). The color started to fade on me after eight and a half hours of wear.

Pink Diamond
Pink Diamond is a medium-dark, plummy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency was smooth, soft, and moderately creamy with intense, opaque coverage achieved in a single layer with a brush. If all of the Melted Metals applied like this one, I think the learning curve would have been worth it–I was ooh-ing and ahh-ing as I applied this particular shade (which doesn’t happen that often). It blended out like a dream and stayed on well without creasing for nine hours.

24K (Remastered)
24K (Remastered) is a dirty, dark gold with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency was smooth, thin, and lightly tacky with enough slip for it to apply with semi-opaque, buildable coverage when I used a brush (MAC 242) and opaque coverage when applied with fingertips. It took some effort to manipulate and apply to the lid to my satisfaction. The color stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Bubbly (Remastered)
Bubbly (Remastered) is a soft, peachy bronze with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The eyeshadow felt drier and had less slip, which made it stiffer and harder to pick up with brushes (but even fingertips didn’t yield great results). It was extremely difficult to spread across my skin, and I could just manage to diffuse the edges a bit. I tried using it with a dampened brush, which improved the consistency a bit. It stayed on well for eight hours on me before creasing.

Suede (Remastered)
Suede (Remastered) is a medium-dark taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was fantastic, while the eyeshadow had a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too dusty or too firmly pressed in the pan, so it was easy to work with. This shade lasted for just over eight hours on me before it started to fade.

Coco (Remastered) is a medium-dark brown with warm, red undertones and a mostly matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a soft, blendable texture that was a smidgen powdery in the pan but didn’t have fallout during application. The eyeshadow stayed on nicely for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Maneater (Remastered)
Maneater (Remastered) is a medium-dark red with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque and definitely built up to full coverage with less than half of a layer patted on top. The texture was a smidgen dry but felt smoother than most red eyeshadows that I’ve tried in the past (which have often felt poorly mixed/blended!). It wore well for eight hours before fading on me.

Damn… I was thinking about this palette as my first forays into huda beauty and warm eyeshadow palettes (yes I know that was a thing, but I have only discovered I actually like warm shades on me recently, previously I resisted). I am so glad for your reviews saving me from costly mistakes!
I can’t recommend the Morphe Jaclyn Hill palette enough for warm tones with some fun colours. It’s incredible – and Christine gave it a great review!
I agree. The Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette is really nice. It’s the only Morphe palette I own, but for the price it’s really good. There are a few duds in there, but those are mostly the colorful matte shadows and not the basic browns and reddish shades.
Also, the Juvia’s Place palettes are amazing. Top notch shadows and you cannot beat the price at all. You can pick up about 3 of their palettes for the price of Huda’s large palettes. Coloured Raine’s Queen of Hearts palette is excellent.
Morphe, Juvia’s, BH, and Colourpop…all great shadows for under $30/palette.
I was tempted to buy this one since I skipped the original. But considering the shades I was really looking forward to received a C or D, I’m going to pass. It’s pretty, though.
Regarding the metallic shadows, I have noticed a similar sort of thing on the PUR Visionary and Australis Neutralize palette where certain shadows don’t appear to be a typical pressed powder formula but look kind of like they have been poured in as a liquid and then set. Some of them are creamier than others and some apply better with brushes vs fingers. I haven’t researched ingredient lists or anything (because honestly, I don’t care that much) but it was something that made me think it was a new formula or at least something I hadn’t seen before.
I don’t have any Huda eyeshadows (and gave away the highlighter palette I splurged on) so I’ll probably skip this one, considering I just got the CP Fortune palette and that seems close enough for my liking.
Well, the mattes look better at least.
On reading the ingredients it is interesting to note the shimmers that worked best for you definitely contained more oil.
I have 2 nieces that are big Huda fans so I am going to have to buy at least 2 of these.
Wasn’t the original palette B- too? It’s a shame this is not significantly better than the original. I did not buy the original because of the mediocre reviews and it looks like I won’t be getting the remastered in either.
I don’t mind the metallics applying badly with a brush since I use my fingers anyway. These shades look beautiful and I’m glad the mattes look good! I may pick this one up!
I went in with the same attitude. The metallics work for me with fix+ and patting in with small rounded flat synthetic brush. It would be nice if they were easier. I still love the palette.
I was not sure if I wanted this palette in the beginning but I am sooo glad I got it. Some shades might be a tiny bit hard to work with but at the end of the day it is still really comfortable and pigmented. For the price I think the palette is soo worth it. The colors are beautiful and all of them have good payoffs. This is my go too everyday and go to travel palette now!
Deja vu….controversy galore, though this will never reach the level of Subculture. Much as it’s laudable to try new formulas, not real sure that the finger shimmers are going to get general acceptance. I agree about a poured metal separate offering. First thing I thought of was poor shelf life on the poured type well. Add your finger in there, even if well washed, and the shimmers are going to dry out and get ucky fast. The same prob that you get with mixed cream/powder cheek products will happen here, with a whole lot bigger mess and adulteration of colors. Within a few months, I think some of the shadows will be very dead, and the mattes still fully functional. Personally, I hate finicky/fussy product, even if I want to play on a finicky/fussy level. BF No for me.
Oh I completely agree I hate sticking my fingers in products.
Hmmm – this is really not so good. The remastered shades are generally pretty average in performance and I think that many of the golden/bronze/coppery shades are just too similar to each other.
Added to the problem of actually applying the eyeshadows (I don’t want to use my fingers), as you have detailed Christine, makes this palette really unworkable, if you liked the shades.
These colours are so popular at the moment that it is easy for someone to purchase a much better palette.
Thank you for your indepth review Christine. And it’s a good point you’ve raised about the longevity of the hybrid powder/cream eyeshadows.
I’m so confused about the shimmer shades. I really enjoy the shimmer shades in the Desert Dusk palette as well as the small 9 pan palettes. Why is this formula different and worse? This seems like a weird decision by the brand.
I wanted to get this, but i am afraid that the metallic shades are going to act as Colourpop supershock eyeshadows when left uncovered… Aka unusable after a few months….
The colors are pretty and over saturated in the beauty market. So I wasn’t planning on buying this anyway. I love my Desert Dusk palette though!
Not gonna lie, I really like it! I’m used to using my fingertips because of ColourPop SSS’s, so that wouldn’t deter me. Yet, I’m not feeling like I will be buying it, though. Mainly because I don’t actually need it?
Oh! I forgot to mention a tip I learned while watching Stefanie Nicole’s review of this palette; that sponge tips work very nicely for applying the creamy metallic shades for those who prefer not to use their fingertips!
Good call. Muse always swatches withsponge tips, which I think often makes them look better than they really are. I think sponge tips might be JTT for this palette.
I really think Huda needs to pick a formula and stick with it. Her shimmers in the Desert Dusk & Electric palettes are really nice. I don’t know why she decided to stray from that. This palette is a skip for me simply b/c I have plenty of dupes, but I also don’t appreciate that she said the Rose Gold palette was being discontinued and if you wanted these shades from her you needed to buy it before it was too late, only for her to release the Remastered version weeks later. That was super shady on her part. IMO, she should have just phased out the old version and just started to replace it with the Remastered, and just made an announcement that the Original palette was being phased out for the Remastered version.
I mean, the formula for the shimmers in the Remastered is completely different from the original Rose Gold, and I don’t think that they are equivalent at all… like you could love one and loathe the other, so I think it would be far worse to just release it under the same name without making it painfully clear what you were buying.
I guess what I’m saying is if she was dead set on remastering, instead of telling people that the Rose Gold palette was going away forever, she should have just said, “we’re reformulating it and that will be what’s on the shelf in the future, so if you like the original one, grab it while you can.” Huda said that once Rose Gold was gone it was gone and that was it.
We’ll have to agree to disagree 🙂
Jessia, your profile picture is breath taking! LOVE IT!
Seems like so many people are having the collapsing pans. Now I’m wondering if they pressed really hard for this to happen. The only color that really wows me is Dubai and I have the Jouer palette so I”m set. I need to dig it out and give it some love.
I was eyeing this one as well but I got the Hard Candy Look Pro Eyeshadow Pro Palette 1339 Rose Gold at the start of last month and though the matte shades are not as good as Huda’s the shimmer are almost on par which is shocking because shimmer shades are not the hardest to formulate.
Christine, Temptalia is the best beauty site/blog created ever!
Thank you so much,
Paola
Thank you, Paola!
I tried it. I don’t mind paying a higher price if the performance is great. I hold higher priced products to a higher standard. The colors are pretty, but the looks can be achieved with other brands at a fraction of the cost. I am returning mine because the quality is just not there. Not worth the price.
Excellent review as usual Christine. I don’t think this one is something I would venture into for the money. I have always sort of loved these from afar because of the price – I just already have so many palettes. Maybe the first one, that one might have gotten me, but then why did they redo it? I missed the initial review I guess where it needed revamping? Anyways I always know I can count on your directness and straightforward honesty.
The overall score may be similar to the old version, but in my opinion, it improved where it needed to in order to be useful (namely, the matte’s). I’m a bit disappointed that the new version of the ‘textured’ shadows are almost a pale imitation of their namesakes, but I’ll actually vaguely consider getting this now that the matte’s aren’t atrocious.
So glad I got my original when I did and I find the top row of that one is a bit annoying to use. I really hate using my fingers – they’re just too big to do anything precise. And i do not want a palette that is best with fingers. I also hate the super shock colors from Colour Pop, though I’ve recently found some brushes that seem to work … better with them. This rerelease is a bit annoying since Huda bragged how amazing it was the first time. Clearly it must not have been if in less than 2 years she needed to release it. Either that or she has nothing new to do.
SOMEONE MAKE ME A PINK AND PURPLE PALETTE! No more than 2 browns allowed. So tired of all this red and orange. it’s like 4 years now!
This. I really think the brand that makes the next great pink/purple palette will have a bestseller on their hands.
I would love to see ABH make a great pink/purple palette with the MR formula!!! That would fly off the shelves
