Dose of Colors Browns & Taupes Block Party Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Double Take
Dose of Colors Double Take Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium-dark, plumm brown with sivler sparkle. It had excellent pigmentation when applied with fingertips (as recommended) and then more semi-opaque, buildable coverage when used with a brush. The eyeshadow needed to be pressed onto the lid rather than swept on, as the texture was denser and thinner, so the base color adhered really well to bare skin. The sparkles binding fairly well with the underlying base, which helped minimize fallout. It wore well for eight hours with slight fallout over time.

Formula Overview
$20.00/0.08 oz. - $250.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have an "ultra-dazzling finish" with "multi-dimensional reflects." It's designed to be applied "using your finger for maximum intensity" and "softer coverage" can be achieved by using a brush. Some shades are softer and more cream-like than others, as there were a few that were drier and stiffer, which made them harder to apply with anything other than a fingertip. The product is definitely most pigmented and typically opaque when applied with fingertips, and I think if that's not something you're keen on, I'd skip the formula and look for a more traditional powder product in a similar hue or try patting on something more glittery over an existing shade you own.
There was slight to moderate fallout, depending on the shade, during application, and this was intensified whenever I used a brush. I didn't experience tons of fallout during wear, though. They tended to wear around eight hours before fading or creasing. They have a slightly thicker consistency that made them harder to diffuse and blend into other textures (like Dose of Colors' matte eyeshadows). I can see these working well for someone who likes to have a spotlight of glitter and shimmer on the center of the lid or who does more cut creases. Overall, some of them are lovely and easy enough to work with, but there were definitely some misses that take patience and effort/additional bases or tools.
There did seem to be similarity to the formula Dose of Colors used in the Desi x Katy Eyeshadow Quad, though it seemed like a lot of the Block Party shades also had dimethicone in them (about mid-way through the ingredient list).

Caffeine Queen
Dose of Colors Caffeine Queen Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a meduim-dark brown with warm undertones and a cooler overtone and silver sparkle. This shade was more unique due to the interplay of warm and cool–it read very warm in the base then cooler on top. The sparkles seemed to sit a little more on top of the color, though, and there was more fallout if I tried to blend it out on my lid. The texture was a little drier and harder to work with using a brush as a result. This would be a shade better applied with fingertips onto the lid and then only lightly blended along the edge to finish its placement. It wore well for eight hours without fading or creasing, but there was some fallout during wear.

Wild and Free
Dose of Colors Wild and Free Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium-dark, taupe brown with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of silver sparkle. It had semi-opaque pigmentation applied with fingertips, and it was much worse trying to use a brush with it as it was sheer and wouldn’t build up. The texture was stiffer and drier, which I think contributed to poorer application across the board. What I managed to get onto my lid seemed to stay on for seven and a half hours, but there was a fair amount of fallout during wear (and lots during application if I blendded out the shade at all).

Sky's the Limit
Dose of Colors Sky’s the Limit Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium-dark gray with cool undertones and flecks of silver sparkle. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied unevenly. The texture was drier with larger, chunky sparkles that seemed to cause the underlying pigmentation to look splotchy. I couldn’t build up the color, and it didn’t matter if I used fingertips, brushes, or a dampened brush–it always looked uneven and subpar. There was a lot of fallout from attempting to build up the color during application. It lasted for seven hours but had a lot of fallout during wear.

Slinky
Dose of Colors Slinky Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium-dark pewter with subtle, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was smoother and creamier than most shades in the range, which made it easier to apply to bare skin with fingertips or with brushes. It had opaque pigmentation that adhered evenly to my lid and wore well for eight and a half hours with very little fallout over time.

For $20 a pop, there shouldn’t be anything in this collection that is less than a B. Other than that, Christine I really wish you did video tutorials b/c your eye looks are always so stunning.
Slinky and Caffeine Queen are truly beautiful shades! And, of course, having the Fenty Galaxy Palette, UD Moondust and DoC x Desi & Katy The Girls quad, I’m duped out. Still…. Caffeine Queen seems very fitting for any coffee lover, huh? ?
Slinky looks like something I could work with… thanks for reviewing!
What a pity. I have Colourpop shades that offer more than this.
I had a deja vu all over again (Yogi Berra) when I saw these on U. Thought there was a jump in price for Dose, like MUG’s highlighters. Kind of thought DOC was a higher end of budget brand, but these are more expensive than singles from UD, ABH, etc that are firmly HE. IMO, underperforming for the price. The continuum of prices is getting interesting, with the increase in DS prices (a Nyx palette for $50? Totally!) and brands that straddle lines, like ND, between HE and UHE. And you can get the niner Hudas and sixer Visearts without breaking the bank. These days you really have to be paying attention! And that’s part of why we’re here! Thanks.
There are some epic failes here, which for $20US there should not be. However they are gorgeous shades and Slinky is my favourite.
Beautiful, beautiful eye looks Christine.
Some beauties in here amongst the bad, but I’ve become single pan adverse.
