Urban Decay Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner Review, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)
Urban Decay 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner
Urban Decay 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.0000 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a water-resistant, long-wearing, “intensely pigmented” liquid liner with an ultra-precise (thin) applicator. There are cream shades and metallic shades; the cream ones have a shiny finish (so none dry matte), while the metallic ones have a more pearly sheen. They require 20-30 seconds worth of shaking, or else you’ll end up with a more watery, sheerer consistency that is hard to work with. If shaken for long enough, everything mixes and most shades are semi-opaque to opaque and thin without feeling watered down, but it is a very wet, thin formula that takes 15-30 seconds to dry down (depends on the shade–metallics dried faster for me, on the whole). Once it dries down, it does seem to shrink slightly and I can feel it cling to my skin a bit. The applicator is thin and flexible enough to maneuver around the curve of the lid. Something that was somewhat frustrating is that the formula is so thin and wet that I do get some splattering when I open shades as well as when I apply (like a dot or two randomly on face).
These remove pretty easily with just water and a light rub, but they don’t come off just rubbing with a dry fingertip at all, so removing those spots requires real makeup remover or a dampened brush/cotton swab. During removal, the eyeliner flakes off in small chunks. If I just sprayed the eyeliner with water and lightly dab or blot (or even just let the water evaporate), they didn’t smudge, fade, or run. I didn’t have any issues with the wear of them–they all went for a full 10-hours before I removed.
Urban Decay Fireball 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.0000 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark red-copper with iridescent pink sheen. It’s a really cool shade, but it could use more pigmentation, which is the major downside. The thinner consistency was a little watery and took longer to dry, though once it did, it wore for ten hours on me. MAC Copper Field (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, more muted, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Sistas (LE, $7.00) is less shimmery, darker, more muted (90% similar). Zoeva Opulence (P, $7.50) is less shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop Get Lucid (P, $7.00) is less shimmery (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Urban Decay Kush 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.0000 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium green with warm, yellow undertones and gold sparkle. It had opaque coverage in a single stroke, and the consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it applied evenly and didn’t take too long to dry. This shade lasted for ten hours on me. ColourPop Aglow (P, $7.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Black Flame Candle (LE, $7.00) is less shimmery, more muted, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Maybe (DC, $7.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). ColourPop Maybe (DC, $7.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). Sephora Caipirinha Dreamin' (LE, $10.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). Urban Decay Freak (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (80% similar). Urban Decay Deep End 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.0000 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark blue-teal with a metallic sheen. It had mostly opaque coverage in a single pass, which was fluid and even when applied. The texture was thin without being runny or watery. It wore well for ten hours on me. Sephora Waterfall (47) (P, $11.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Urban Decay Vacancy (LE, $22.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Makeup Geek Ocean (DC, $9.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC New Marine (P, $17.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Tarina Tarantino Spark of Envy (DC, $15.00) is cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Electric Empire (P, $22.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Sweet Star (LE, $29.00) is more muted (90% similar). Sephora Waterfall (DC, $10.00) is warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Chaos 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.0000 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark cobalt blue with cool undertones and a satiny sheen. It had good pigmentation in one pass, once really shaken up, which didn’t skip or go on unevenly, but the consistency is still on the thinner, wetter side and had this one splatter every time I opened and used it (five times). MAC Royal Wink (LE, $16.00) is less glossy (95% similar). Urban Decay Chaos (P, $22.00) is less glossy (95% similar). Lancome Cote d'Azur (P, $23.00) is less glossy (95% similar). NARS Most Wanted (LE, $24.00) is less glossy (95% similar). NARS Ocean Drive (P, $24.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Perpetual Shock (P, $23.00) is darker (95% similar). Urban Decay Push 24/7 Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner ($22.0000 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is a dark, navy blue with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It’s not as metallic as a lot of the other shades, but it seems to have a bit of shimmer. This shade was quite watery, even when shaken up and open/closed multiple times, which resulted in sheerer coverage. The color still wore for ten hours. KVD Beauty Poe (P, $18.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Sephora Navy Shimmer (P, $13.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Over(night) (P, $25.00) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Lethal Cosmetics Spectre (LE, $15.50) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Gotta say, I’m very tempted by the colour of Chaos though the grade is disappointing.
How does the colour of Deep End compare to Siren in the old liquid formula?
Siren has a blacker base, so it is much darker.
Can fireball be built up to opaque?
Yes, if you use two or three layers.
I have mixed feelings on these… I really loved the 24/7 formula and these look quite similar but with some shortfalls, so I don’t understand why they had to overhaul the line. I kind of wish they would have just edited the color lineup. Luckily I was able to get almost every color when they were “liquidating” the old formula (see what I did there?) so I am pretty well stocked.
Haha! Well, at least you’re stocked-up. I think there were a fair number of complaints about the packaging/applicator for the previous formula? so maybe that is why.
The UD SA told me the something about the packaging. I was about to object that I didn’t think there was anything wrong with it, but then I remembered that the reason I stopped using the Pervasion liquid liner everyday was because the packaging suddenly cracked and started to split apart.
My other two (much less used) liners are still in good condition though!
Almost every single one of my shades of the old version had the stopper portion of the vial would get stuck in the lid of the package and my eyeliner would get everywhere. I hope these are as good as the old formula though because I still use my old ones even with the packaging issues. The formula was just that good for me!
I loved the old formula, I even used it enough to repurchase Demolition and Perversion, but these don’t seem as pigmented. Still might pick up Fireball anyway.
I do like these shade! But pot liquid liners should be treated the same way Mascara’s are handle with 3-6 month max of use. These would get very expensive sadly.
Oh, definitely it would if you had to try and finish them up that quickly!
I need everything called Fireball at UD !
I’m so in love with the eyeshadow that every time I’m at the counter looking at eyeshadows, I swatch it on the back of my hand. I have it at home but I still swatch it in the store ! XD
Haha! 😉
I agree with you totally!! I am obsessed with anything they call Fireball! I need it all! 😉
Gotta catch ’em all! (seriously)
So many shades!
I love the colors, but I’m disappointed that the formula is so watery. Fireball was the one I really wanted. At least it’s buildable.
I wish it wasn’t as watery!
These don’t look super bright thus okay for me but the shimmer/glitter may be my issue as I’m never lucky with glitter liners. The allergic reactions almost always occur.
Oh no! 🙁 I don’t know if they’re worth a try!
Finally went and checked these out in person, there are definitely some interesting colors! I’m wondering how the NYX Vivid Brights compare?
I haven’t tried those, sorry!
I hope some shades perform like the 24/7 formula without the packaging problems of the old formula. I love/d Retrograde but with every bottle after a few uses the liquid would start to coagulate and separate from air exposure.
Here’s hoping! 🙂
Interesting that Kush and Deep End do not have their pencils as dupes, but rather other UD shades. Hmmm….
I think the liquid formula changes up the color a bit!
That fireball colour is wicked nice.. sad about the grade and lack of opacity.. I have the Zoeva dupe, but I do like liquid formula when I’m layering just above a black liner. If there are other colours that catch my interest in part 2….
I think Fireball is the one worth overlooking the ratings… if only for it being relatively unique.
I loooovve colored eyeliner so normally this would be right up my alley. I have green eyes and I almost always wear blue (I have UD chaos, one of the colors shown here, as well as cote d’azur abother one shown in this post), burgundy, or teal (both colors, my favorites are by Marc jacobs). But I have had bad luck with UD liners in the past, both in gel and pencil. In fact they were nearly unusable for me due to fading and smudging. I will probably pick one of these up, but be more careful to return it if doesn’t work out.
I have, generally, heard rave reviews for their liquid eyeliner formulas with respect to wear, but of course, their pencils also have quite a few raves – though I hear a stronger minority rant on those that I don’t recall for the liquid eyeliners.
Fireball is a great color! But, I doubt I’d well with this formula so am going to try out the Zoeva dupe.
The Zoeva is easier to apply, since it is pencil! Otherwise, UD has an eyeshadow by the same name 😉
Thanks for the tip — I just bought it!
Oh wow!! Amazing colours! I’m tempted by that cobalt blue and lime green shades <3 I'm not the biggest fan of the applicator but the formula seems quite promising!
Some shades seem better than others!
These colours are gorgeous, but they do look a little streaky. I still think the Sephora liners are the best though
Yes, some of them could apply better!
Yeah, when I saw the initial swatches, I thought the formula looked runny/watery, and the scores would be all over the map, and I was right. I’m not sure how these will fare on me. Deep End is really gorgeous though!
Yep, they are definitely watery!
I hope these wear similarly to the others on me, the 24/7 was my favorite in terms of formula and applicator.
The only real packaging issue I had was the product liked to dry on the inside of the stopper, which caused it to pop out with the applicator…but I’ve had that issue with other products’ stoppers. The most baffling one is the huge one in a bottle of Physicians Formula oil…the oil isn’t crusting up, so I don’t know why the stopper wants to come out with the dropper.
Keep us posted on how these work out for you, Quinctia.
I never used the previous formula enough to encounter packaging issues, but hopefully that’s not an issue with the new packaging!
Some of the grades are iffy, but all of these colors are phenomenal! I love Fireball.
Some are very pretty!
Not that impressed. I think that using MAC Mixing Medium and an UD eyeshadow in these shades would give much better payoff.
That’s a great idea, Taylor!
Deep End is lovely!
The color is so summery!
I really, really miss the OLD UD liners that came in the little genie bottle. The brush was perfect and so was the formula (for perversion at least). I hoarded a bunch when they were being discontinued and I’m finally down to my last one. I still haven’t found anything that I like even half as much. Any recommendations?
That was awhile ago! I don’t even know if I remember how those performed – I might have owned one or two of them, so I’m not sure what would compare.
I may be giving one of these a try because I just love liquid eyeliners, but the formula looks a wee bit runny and thin. How long does it take for them to dry? Any transfer? Wonder how they shape up to Stila Liquid eyeliner, which are a favorite of mine. So far Fireball looks interesting; looking forward to seeing the rest of your swatches. I tried a gold Jordana eyeliner last weekend and the formula hardened to what resembled “caulking”, lol, and came off like a ribbon on removal, which is something like you describe in your review of its removal. We’ll see! Worth a look…thanks for your review!
15-30 seconds to dry down 🙂 I didn’t have issues with transfer – definitely would have made sure to mention that, since that would be a massive problem, though I did let it dry before blinking!
I have this too and it just smudges like crazy on me. Disappointed because I like all the colours…
Oh noooo! 🙁
Fireball is such an interesting colour. I also really like Kush. Pity Push isn’t better.
Fireball is definitely the coolest shade I’ve seen in the range!
This is so weird! Normally I find your reviews to be spot on but I just don’t agree at all with the review for Fireball especially, or for the lasting power – I swatched about half the lineup on my hand yesterday and I’ve scrubbed at it with everything – micellar water, hand soap, detergent, coconut oil – and NOTHING is getting these liners off of my hand! I’m amazed… I had to peel some of them off because NOTHING got them off! I found all of the liners I swatched to be 100% opaque, especially Fireball which was incredible with one swipe – I’m wondering if maybe you got duds or they just sat too long and separated too much?
I didn’t have issues with wear – every shade in the review received 10/10 for longevity – they wore until I went to take them off. Water actually removes them easiest 🙂 I’m actually confused by your comment, because the entire second paragraph talks about how I didn’t have issues with wear, they lasted 10 hours or longer, and they can be harder to remove… We sound like we are in agreement?
I think I’d rather go for Nyx liquid eyeliners if I want cool colors that last
are there any dupes for chaos?
