Laura Mercier Extreme Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Laura Mercier Extreme Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette
Laura Mercier Extreme Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette ($58.00 for 0.356 oz.) is a set of twelve shades with a general neutral-leaning vibe. Two shades–both in the purple family–are the only non-standard neutrals (your browns, beiges, etc.). There are so many neutral palettes available that it seems like any new-to-market palette should be exceptionally high quality in order to compete with all those other neutral palettes, and this one isn’t. There are several shades that miss here, primarily with respect to pigmentation and texture.

Earth is a dark, taupe brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was very soft and finely-milled, but it tended to sheer out and was difficult to blend out, as it looked patchy and uneven on bare skin. Bone is a muted, light-medium yellowed beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, but the texture was a little dusty and could look dry on the skin (if you have oilier lids, I don’t think it would be an issue, though). This shade wore for seven and a half hours before fading. Too Faced Good Girl (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Too Faced Peach Meringue (PiP, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Choco Glace is a medium-dark, reddish brown with a sparkling, pearly sheen. The underlying finish was more of a satin/pearl hybrid, but there was looser sparkle and micro-shimmer that tended to get everywhere but where you intended. It had good color payoff and blended out decently, except for the sparkly bits. Most of the eyeshadow wore well for eight hours with little fall out, but most of the fall out occurred during initial application. Laura Mercier Brown Sugar (LE, $23.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Lost (DC, $19.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Violet Sugar is a muted, medium-dark silvery purple with cool undertones and a soft, frosted shimmer-sheen finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a dusty, drier texture that was prone to sheering out when applied to the lid. This one requires a good, lightly tacky base/primer to perform well. The color was noticeably faded after seven hours of wear. Too Faced Champs Elysees (LE, $16.00) is warmer (90% similar). I was so disappointed with the last two Laura Mercier palettes that I held off on buying this one…and I’m so glad I did. I think LM is now officially added to my list of brands with which I am done.
Oh nooo! 🙁
Thank you for saving me money. 🙂 I love the Artist pallete from two years ago. I’ve hit pan on two colors, and yes, one was African Violet. Her last few palettes have been disappointing. So grateful that you reviewed it for us!
Have a great weekend!
My pleasure, Robin!
Wow! Looks like this one has been curated just for me! I know there are tons of earthtone palettes, but the thing is that, either they lack any pop of color or when they do, it’s the the color I want. Yes, I am looking at Violet sugar.
Oh, that’s great news!
Another safe skip!
Phew!
Disappointing!
Agreed!
What a pity about the quality. I really enjoyed the formula of my Artist palette (the one that was re-released). I expected this to do alot better.
I thought it was going to be better, too!
Wow! Those swatches leave much to be desired. My pocketbook thanks you! 🙂
My pleasure, Amy!
Extreme-ly bad! haha. When I see that price tag with a score lower than B+ I immediately lose interest!
Makes sense to me, lol! It’s too expensive to have that many misses.
I usually like Laura Mercier’s palettes, but this isn’t speaking to me. I have several of the shades in the few palettes of hers I do own.
This one is a miss for me as well!
Some may consider what I’m about to say as “nude” or “naked” palette blasphemy; but this has got to be one of the most boring, blah, meh palettes I have ever seen in my life! It’s so …. ?
lol!
I think the word is gagworthy.
Precisely, KJH!!!
I learned my lesson with this brand. Never Purchasing Again category.
Oh no! 🙁 That is two people who have said that in this post!
Yup! Rather give my money to ColourPop .. they deliver amazing reasonably priced products!
I understand you! My first ”makeover” experience was with Laura Mercier… I was so naive and just stuck with this brand. A year later I’m wiser lol
I had high hopes for this palette, as it looks an interesting palette and the two lilacs lift it up above just another neutral palette. However the lilacs are so sad I’m gonna pass lol!
I’m bummed this didn’t get an A or even B+, although I have enough neutral palettes to last three lifetimes, I would certainly be happy to get another one that is great – a quality I usually think of with Laura Mercier.
I think this is a fairly bland mixture of neutral eye shadows. There are a lot of mattes here and I guess for matte lovers they may like this palette. But overall I think it is disappointing.
I’m usually a huge fan of Laura Mercier’s eyeshadow palettes (The last 2 from the holidays have been fantastic!) this seems a little average for some reason!
The LM cream shadow sticks are awesome, but I have never been impressed with their powder shadow formula. The market is flooded with great neutral palettes at every price point, so no need to drop $ 58 on this one. If you must have it, wait for a sale.
I wear almost exclusively neutrals, but even I think all these neutral palettes are getting out of hand. That said, I like the color concepts for many of these, but their performance is less than stellar. So sad, you’d think neutrals would be rather easy to excel on since everyone and their mother does them!
Meh 🙁
Hey Christine! I looked around the review and couldn’t find anything mentioning it, but what purple eyeliner are you wearing? It seems too bright to be the purple eyeshadow shade in this palette, so I’m assuming it’s something else?
Nothing I see in this palette excites me. Patchy swatches, same old boring neutral colors.
I used to love LM, but I’m allergic to something in her lip products so I can’t use those, her eyeshadows are hit/miss (know everyone loves the original Artist Palette but I hardly ever reach for mine), and she changed the formula of the Silk Cream foundation…yeah, I’m over it!
What an absolutely in depth review! Thank you.
Absolutely AWESOME in depth review. Do excuse me lol.
My pleasure, Tracey!
