Haul: Going to pick up some of Zoya’s Naked Manicure polishes this weekend
Weekend plans: Writing a paper and planting some flowers 🙂
Last book I read: Currently reading “The Death of Artemio Cruz” for class, last one I read for fun was “A Feast for Crows,” the fourth book in the Song of Ice and Fire series.

Dogs are soooo good at that look!
*Haul – after the big haul from last week, nothing this week, but will put in orders soon for MAC and CP
*Weekend – family birthday, haircut, clothes shopping
*Last Book – oh, this is bad, can’t remember. I used to be a bookworm, but after having a kid and becoming a makeup junkie, I haven’t finished a book, but have been reading magazines, online news, and beauty blogs

Haul: Finally got my VIB order and Violet Voss HG palette this week!
Weekend plans: I just wanna play with my new goodies this weekend. And my usual, hanging out with the puppy
What was the last book you’ve read?: I’m on the third book of the Game of Thrones series and the Outlander series too. Love both

Julia Avatar

Haul: Got a HauteLook delivery this week; I had snagged a few more Illamasqua polishes when they reappeared. I got Venous, Cameo, Jomina (LOVE!), Gamma (thought I would love it more, orange is my favorite color, but meh) and Stance – which is embarrassing, because I ordered it last time! I thought I had gotten Obsess, and didn’t check. Also got my first Play! box and while I’m really happy with the quantity and quality of items, I am a little disappointed with the selection- They just gave that Nars Rikugien pencil as part of the birthday gift last year, I assume this was not new to many recipients and have barely touched my first one. I also which they had chosen a color cosmetic from Milk instead of the Sunshine Oil. I have face oil samples coming out of my ears and their color items are where they really seem to be doing innovative stuff.

Weekend plans: Spring Cleaning! I am planning on doing a serious overhaul of my wardrobe, and donating/tossing a lot. I’m also waiting on a new dishwasher delivery/install – I live such an exciting life, lol

What was the last book you’ve read?: Dune. It’s my husband’s all-time favorite and he talked me into reading it. Can’t say I was a fan, just not my genre!

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Julia, I have a number of Milk products (I’ve reviewed a few of them) and I have yet to hit a miss out of the bunch. A good non-color product in their line is the Hero Salve. I use it in the mornings (with a lip brush) on my cuticles. I also use it every time I do a mani or pedi. Never tried Illamsqua’s polishes…will have to check them out!

Julia Avatar

I am a sweater fiend but I have some that I never wore at all this winter – so they have gots to go, among many other things. There are some charities around here actually that do pick ups, you just have to lug the boxes/bags to the curb – maybe see if there is one in your area?

Haul: UD Revolution Lipstick in Naked and UD 24/7 eyeliner in Electric. MAC beauty powder in Pearl Sunshine (lovely), mineralize skin finish in Give Me Sun (a beautiful bronzer and contouring powder for my NC30 skin tone), lipsticks in Have Your Cake and Finally Free, and a 219 pencil brush. I also bought Nars eye shadows in Tarvos, Cressida and Kari, but they were immediately returned because the quality was just not there. Tarvos completely disappeared after four hours of wear. Kari was pretty but I have a discontinued LANCOME shadow that is a great dupe.

Weekend plans: Support for my daughter. She is 6 weeks into a high risk pregnancy. Doctor told her she had a 3% chance of the baby being alive on Tuesday, and on Tuesday the sonogram picked up a heart beat! That little one is fighting to survive and we are all hoping that he or she will become a new member of the family in December?

Book: I am reading an unusual and interesting book called Mr. Fox. A writer’s female “muse” comes to life and hijacks his stories, causing all kinds of interesting twists and turns.

Nicole Avatar

Haul: Wow, I’m doing good! Now that I think about it the only things I got this week was the MAC Dej Loaf gloss,CP backup items and a new Anastasia brow pencil. That’s very little for me! lol! I did order the new hourglass primer in Dim and Viseart’s Ribbon Boherme palette. I also am really drooling over both the Hourglass Illume cream compact and the Byterry sun designer palettes. OMG! really $82 right after Tom Ford though!

Weekend Plans; Super busy! I’m trying to get a new job! So, I have an interview this afternoon and then I’, meeting a friend at the mall. But, I’m working on cleaning up my makeup stash and closet the rest of the weekend.
Last Book: “Losing Hope” is that last I can recall. i haven’t read a book about a year or so! EEK!
happy Weekend! 🙂

Tracey E. Avatar

I’ve been drooling over the Hourglass Sheer Illume and the By Terry sun designer palettes. Since Hourglass Sheer Illume is supposed to be part of the regular line, I’m leaning towards the LE By Terry palette on SpaceNK $20 off $100 purchase. These coming on the heels of Tom Ford’s Soleil collection is hard to justify. (I’m thinking about the Radiant Moisture Souffle if there’s a good discount & eBates combo.)

Christine, might you be reviewing Tom Ford’s Radiant Moisture Souffle?

Donna Avatar

Haul: MAC Versicolour Lip Stain and a lipstick,
Weekend plans: Mostly hanging out with the cats since my husband is on a retreat this weekend. Might do some planting.
Last book read: The Theory of Death by Faye Kellerman. Now reading The Sparrow Sisters by Ellen Herrick. I’m a chain reader 🙂

Jenny Cupcakes Avatar

Haul: Makeup Monsters liquid lipsticks, Sephora Play box, Jeffree Star lipsticks, and Glossier Boy Brows

Weekend plans: Lunch with my parents on Sunday, but other than that, probably yard work, dog park, and get stuff ready to sell before we move cross country

What was the last book you’ve read?: I’m currently reading Devil in the White City

Julia Avatar

I think Sephora must have a warehouse full of those Nars pencils that they are trying to unload. They gave out Rikugien + Cruella as the birthday gift last year, and I’m pretty positive that they were giving away Cruella during their Matte Lip promo a month ago or so. Now Rikugien is in the Play! box. Hmm…

OMG Mellan, you have that look down cold! My one dog, Bernice, is a rescue; a great Canadian Mixed breed who had never seen the outdoors before we got her and somehow I’ve noticed her eyes frequently remind me of Mellan. I didn’t get the connection until my vet pointed out last year she probably has some golden in her. Bernice looks predominantly like a hound. But our vet keyed me into the shape of her head, her eyes, and now I’m like yeah I absolutely see it. She is totally down with this look as well 🙂

Haul: a trio of Youngblood cream blushes. Have not tried the label and I love cream products for the summer. Also picked up a few backups of ColourPop gel pencils. Best O I reach for all the time, is one of my favourite colours; a reddish plum which is killer for green eyes.

Weekend Plans: I love how this will totally disgust pretty much everyone here (and invariably the Tom..). I’m spreading composted goat POO. Yep, that time of year. People ask me all the time how I tolerate the smell and do not find it completely repulsive. I look at it as one of life’s perfect and incredibly powerful cycles. Our animals eat the crops we grow, and their digestive process and the straw bedding they stand on breaks down and feeds our next years crops (which is of course their organic feed) entirely without the need of chemicals. I have a cab on my tractor which can minimize air flow in and it is not that bad. Goat cheese starts here.

Last Book I read: Just finished rereading Tomas Hardy’s Far From the Madding Crowd. I have always held his works dear as he probes the darkness and depth of the human condition in a more profound way than say the far more popular Brontës. My favourite quote: It is difficult for a woman to define her feelings in language which is chiefly made by men to express theirs.

Christine Avatar

Your vet has a good eye! 😉

I think when things need to be done, when they are done for good reason, and I feel like that circle of life – the way things are connected and WHY (particularly in nature) is powerful, so it’s just part of the process. I always watch nature docs and am amazed at how life… balances out if left alone (e.g. not mucked by us, lol).

Claire L Avatar

I grew up with golden retrievers and just love big dogs. Sadly we don’t have one as we live in a flat but we’d love one, our daughter loves my MIL’s black lab and is always asking to see him, aww.

Haul- I caved at the tail end of the Sephora sale and got a couple Lancôme lip balms and viseart minx.

Weekend- my last weekend of freedom before I have to go back to school, as it’s spring vacation.

Book- chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart

Haul: BH #9 duo fiber large stippling brush. Started applying my foundation with this instead of my hands. I like using my hands, but what they don’t do well is build up coverage. A dense brush like the Real Techniques Expert Face is the best for fuller coverage, but it just gets so crammed with foundation I feel like it’s impossible to clean (and takes FOREVER to dry, like 24+ hours) and so I don’t trust it to not be full of bacteria. The stippling brush is easier to clean and dries quickly. And it’s pretty large so it does my face quickly, too.
Weekend plans: Game of Thrones!
What was the last book you’ve read?: Dark Places by Gillian Flynn (author of Gone Girl). Wasn’t crazy about it but it was a bit of a mystery so I was inclined to stick around for the ending.

Christine Avatar

I use Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap on my RT Expert Face brush, takes like 30 seconds! My big tip is to really massage the soap in (well, I dilute – I use maybe 1/3 of soap to 2/3 water) and THEN rinse with pure water, but I try to work in the soap mixture to breakdown the foundation first.

Ginny Avatar

Ah ha! I actually use my cleansing oil and follow up with baby shampoo. I was going to buy a new baby shampoo today, so I’ll see if I can find Dr. Bronner’s instead. Should be a good substitute since it contains oils, and looks like it’s a versatile product, too. Thanks Christine 🙂

Haul: (Did a bit better on my low-buy!)
Beautylish: Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick (Unicorn Blood and Scorpio) and Velour Lip Scrub (Root Beer and Strawberry Gum)

Lord & Taylor (10% Off): Borghese Fango Ferma Firming Mud Mask for Face and Body in a Mason Jar, Fango Purificante Clay Cleanser, and 6 Piece Borghese GWP

MAC: Pro Beyond Twisted Lash

Sephora: Play subscription

Weekend plans: Mani, Write reviews for my blog, Work on proofreading a manuscript for a writer friend of mine

What was the last book you’ve read? I’m currently reading The Woman I Wanted to Be (Diane Von Furstenberg) and also the manuscript for another book, The White Witch (not yet published).

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I held back for the May releases of McGrath (although may get one of the shades next week), UD Alice (palette plus one or two lipsticks), Paul & Joe Sail Away (I want a lipstick but I also need the case), and MAC Chang (planning on a shadow and creme base). I’m wavering now as to whether I want to get MAC Doo Wop next week or pass and get another Jeffree Star lipstick. And, speaking of Star, whenever the highlighters, eyeshadow palette, and lippies release, I’m planning on getting those too. Hopefully after that batch, I’ll be able to hit low buy again for a while since I typically don’t go crazy over Summer collections.

Kimberly Avatar

Haul: Been good after the Sephora sale so nothing! My order finally came in; got the ABH brow wiz and a travel size of the Roller Lash mascara. My birthday is on Mon though, so I anticipate quite a few new makeup presents HAHA.
Weekend plans: Preparing for my party!
What was the last book you’ve read?: Do audiobooks count? I fall asleep to them, and the last one was Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather. If you mean ‘physically read’, then prolly my media law textbook for class OR Game of Thrones by G. R. R. Martin. Been trying to get back into the A Song of Ice and Fire series in anticipation of the new season starting soon!

Tracey E. Avatar

Happy Birthday, Kimberly! I’m also an April baby and indulged in makeup presents…and carrot cake. Hope you have a great celebration!

Nancy T Avatar

Awww!!! I *know* that doggie/ kitty look…the guilting eyes!

Haul: A bunch of goodies are on their way to me, due to arrive next week. Ordered form Colourpop: Flower Shop and Wattles eyeshadows, So Wavy, Brooklyn and Cheap Thrills liquid lipsticks, RAYEzor Lippy Stix, Petit Four Lip Pencil (to use with UD Time), Cry Baby Gel eyeliner pencil.
And Dej Loaf from MAC.

Weekend plans: Today I get my Remicade infusion. Tomorrow hair and nails. Sunday, go to my meeting. In other words , my basic routine!

What is the last book you read: The Bible. Not a joke. Currently in the Book of Job, whenever I read that one, it reaches me on a deep gut level. I used to read other novels and books too, but lately reading is more physically difficult. A 57 y.o.’s eyes are just different, I suppose. Plus, without glasses, my one eye crosses a little bit (it embarrasses me).

Haul: I picked up a few things from WnW because it is 40% off at Rite Aid & bought plane tickets to Europe 😀
Weekend plans: Saturday being my busiest day: lunch and prepping for Europe, then a lacrosse match with the boy 😀
What was the last book you’ve read?: Currently reading Otherland. Haven’t had the time to finish it lately (about 200 pages left to go).

Anna Avatar

Haul: Last week I had holiday and went to Germany so after not really shopping for make up for like a year it was like the haul of all hauls in duty-free. I have gotten: Guerlain meteorites, two UD lipsticks (Anarchy and Matte Menace), UD naked skin foundation in 3.5, UD concealer, Armani luminous silk foundation, Armani mascara, Armani eyeliner. This is what I remember. I might have gone even more nuts. I have also gotten a new Chanel perfume.
Weekend plans: I still feel like I have been through a workout from being on holiday (lots of walking) so will relax.
Last book: I am reading a Swedish book. I can’t actually remember the name of the book but it is about retired people who are like 80 who suddenly starts committing crimes.

Mindy Avatar

•Haul: I got the items in from my Sephora order which was Shiedeo Cotton Pads, two new Beauty Blenders and a Dermadoctor toner. I also picked up a Trish McEnvoy Beauty Balm which I may return.
•Weekend plans: Painting! Now that the flooring is completed in the secondary bedrooms of my house I can start painting.
•What was the last book you’ve read?: The Bourne Identity. Absolutely nothing like the movie.

Gillian Avatar

Haul: Nothing too recent. I got some stuff earlier on in the month. Two Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks in Catfight and 69 and an Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Deep End. I really love all of those, especially the lipsticks, but that’s nothing new!

I also bought some stuff off of Escentual, probably one of my favourite websites ever! They always have amazing deals and great prices. I think I listed all that in a previous post though so I won’t bore you by writing it again!

Weekend plans: I’m going to visit my parents. I see them all the time because they only live about 40 mins away so nothing special but we’re going to go for lunch tomorrow. ?

I’m also going through my lip glosses and seeing what I can bin or give away. I hardly ever wear them but there are plenty that I love enough to keep ‘just in case’! There are also ones that really need to go because they are old but some look really unique that I keep them just to swatch and admire. So far I’ve got rid of about three. So far so good???

Finally, I’m probably going to go and get my lip pierced. Work will hate it though but I’m currently off with a sick line so I’m hoping that by the time I go back it will be healed enough for me to put in a clear retainer. Hmm, let’s hope so because I’ve wanted it for years and I’d hate to have it done and then be told to remove it before it’s healed up. It’s probably not the best thing for me to do but I’ve already had two new piercings while I’ve been off (conch left, daith right) and it’s so addictive. What do you think? Should I put metal in my face??? It would be a vertical labret. Damn, I know I’d love it. ?

What was the last book you’ve read?: One of my many Terry Pratchett Discworld books. I forget which one but they’re all good! If you want fantasy mixed in with great humour then I totally recommend them!

Gillian Avatar

Yeah, Deep End is really gorgeous. Very me! I love those kinds of colours. The first time I tried to buy it it was sold out everywhere I went so it seems to be popular! I got lucky second time round. ?

And I will enjoy the time with my parents, thank you. ?

Kendra Avatar

I went a little psycho with the shopping this week. I felt guilty so I decided to make it my Mother’s Day gift.

I got:
Colourpop: 3 lippie stix: toucan, I <3 this, and chi chi (they're all ridiculously bright – not sure what I was thinking!), and ultra satin lip in frick n frack (phew! A nice, everyday color!)
Sephora: Perricone no foundation foundation serum, Sephora Tangerine lip stain (again- bright!), and the free-with-purchase Perricone MD cold plasma face
Target: Laneige Cushion BB in light

I'm kind of disappointed in all the bright colors I bought. Just after I ordered them I found out that hubby isn't a fan of bright lipsticks. 🙁

This weekend I'm speaking at a women's event, so I'm prepping today with a Dead Sea Minerals Anti-Stress mask. And I'll run through my talks one time.

I'll take votes on what lip color I should wear while speaking! (Pretty conservative group, though:))

Lulle Avatar

Haul: nothing this week but I received the Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss that I bought last week. I got it in Mirrored and the shade looks NOTHING like the online pictures of any retailer: they all show it as a light bronze, but it’s very pink. I clearly don’t have anything like that in my stash but I’m not sure if I like it.
Weekend plans: going to the San Francisco Bay Area by myself for a baby shower!
Last book I read: a thriller in French.

Stephanie Avatar

Haul: Lots of stuff I shouldn’t have gotten, but with the 5x points at Ulta on UD and It Cosmetics…I got that UD eye kit (with shadows in Psychedelic Sister, Sellout, and Bordello; eyeliner pencils in Zero, Demolition, and Psychedelic Sister; and the sample size Primer Potion) and an It Cosmetics foundation brush.

Also, on an unplanned trip to the Sephora near where I work when I wasn’t going to buy anything (ha!), I found two tubes of UD Ex-Girlfriend from the Gwen Stefani collection and bought them both. After not being able to find the shade online or off, I was amazed to find it at a Sephora where I’d looked for it before!

Weekend: No big plans, just the usual…along with making my middle child work on his “famous person from Alabama” report for school.

Last book I’ve read: I’m restarting American Gods by Neil Gaiman, which I tried to read a LONG time ago until I lost it (I hadn’t gotten too far, either). It has finally resurfaced, so I’m getting back to it.

Stephanie Avatar

He still hasn’t made a decision, but he’s thinking about Jimmy Buffett, of all people. No joke. Jimmy Buffett grew up in Alabama but was born in Mississippi (I think), so my son needs to be sure that being born somewhere else is not a disqualifying factor.

Nicole Avatar

Enjoy your weekend Christine!

Haul: Sephora: Nest Dahlia & Vines perfume, Lancôme Drama Liqui-Pencil in Paradis and Baroque, Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealer in Light, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 in Porcelain, Nars Audacious Lipstick in Anna. I already know the lipstick and tinted moisturizer are going back-the moisturizer didn’t do anything for me at all, and Anna is a gorgeous color that just doesn’t work on me. I’m probably going to take the Liqui-Pencil in Paradis back too-the color isn’t flattering on me. I love the other products that I got. The liqui-pencils are so easy to apply and Baroque is a stunning color. The concealer is great too. I just use a little dot of it, press it in with a damp beauty blender, set it with very little powder and it stays in place all day long, very minimal creasing and it gives me about 75% coverage.

MAC: Finally went to MAC and got color matched, which was interesting given the light in the store. I was really happy with it for the first day or two and now I’m feeling iffy. I got matched to NC-15, which is fine, it’s a fairly good match, but it’s still not quite my skin tone. I don’t know, does anyone else have the problem where, say your skin is warm toned and you have redness on your face, then you put a warm toned foundation on and rather than matching your body it kind of turns your face into a beige-y/pink-y haze that looks nothing like the rest of your skin? I don’t know if that makes sense, but it’s what I’ve got going on right now and I’m not loving it. Anyways, at the MAC store I got Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Light Plus, Bronzing Powder in Golden (which I do really love-) and Studio Sculpt Liquid Foundation in NC-15.

Ulta: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk, another NYX eyeliner I can’t remember the name of also in white and an IT Cosmetics Powder Brush.

Weekend plans: Grocery shopping, maybe some light cleaning. Try to get outside more and enjoy the sun.

What was the last book you’ve read?: Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett.

Nicole Avatar

Thank you, Christine! It was pretty disappointing-it’s such a stunning color. I’m going to return that one, but actually I swatched pretty much all of them in the store and when I realized that Anna wasn’t going to work I bought Raquel and Brigitte from Nordstrom online. I wasn’t going to, but the formula is so nice that I just felt like I needed to have one or two in my collection. I think Brigitte will work for me, but I’m really hoping that Raquel isn’t so light that it washes me out.

Genevieve Avatar

I was originally designated warm toned, and I have redness on my cheeks, and all the foundations turned a funny browny colour on me by the end of the day. Actually I am cool toned with pink undertones – so at long last I have the foundation that works best on my skin. Rimmel Match Perfection in light porcelain and lately I have used, with success, the Rimmel 25 hour foundation with serum, in the same colour for extra coverage.

Nicole Avatar

Thank you for sharing your experience with me, Genevieve! I totally relate to that-foundations can definitely turn a funny brownish color on me as well. That’s really good to know. At the moment I’m thinking the next time I go to Sephora I’m going to ask for a few samples of different toned foundations to see if I can find a better match.

I actually have thought that I was cool toned in the past, mostly because my natural hair color is a medium ashy blonde and my eyes are blue, that sort of thing. My main problem with that wasn’t how cool toned foundations looked on my face, it was how they contrasted with my neck and chest. My neck and chest have minimal redness and a faint, pale yellow-y cast. The contrast is pretty stark when I wear cool toned foundation. Then again, like you mentioned a lot of warm toned foundations turn brown-y (or sometimes orange or peach, which also doesn’t look right on me). I kind of feel like I’m in foundation no-man’s-land, like probably 80% of most foundation wearing people out there, lol.

Thank you again! I will for sure look into that foundation-always looking for new foundations to try out.

Tammy B Avatar

I wear Nest Dahlia and Vines too, I love the way it develops over time. I’ve had nurses grab my wrist when I am near them, hold it up to their nose and inhale, and ask me what I’m wearing?

Rebecca Avatar

I’m East Asian and have had the problem with foundation not matching since the first time I became aware of my undertones. I’m also pretty light, so to find a light foundation that’s also yellow enough hasn’t really happened. It was easier in the summer because my skin would be darker/beige-r, but then October comes around and the struggle continues. The only two that I thought was pretty much a perfect match were MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer in NC20 (I did a comparison the other day and it’s by far the yellowest base I own), and this custom mix I made from the yellow corrector and one of the lightest shades in RCMA’s cream foundation palettes. Unfortunately, MAC PLW is too drying on me most of the time, and the RCMA is too creamy to wear half of the year here in Minnesota. MUFE’s old 117 came close, but still left me with a slightly browny/orangy/beigey cast on my face in relation to my chest, and the new Y225=117 in the Ultra HD is less yellow and a little darker, so the problem has intensified. I recently bought the yellow Chromatic Mix during the VIB sale, but the first time I tried it, it turned my Ultra HD way too yellow and way too dark. I wanna continue experimenting with it before I decide it’s a no-go, but so far it hasn’t happened. Anyone else here with this struggle, I’d love to hear your suggestions as well.

Stephanie Avatar

Hauled a couple of clearance brushes but tomorrow and going to check out the new Lise Watier summer collection and spend some Shopper’s Drug Mart points.

No weekend plans except tomorrow’s shopping trip, an hour away. Just the usual groceries, laundry, housework.

I can’t remember the last book I read. Don’t have very much spare time these days.

Haul: Josie Maran Argan Milk. John Masters Organics Firming Eye Gel
Weekend plans: Going to the mall to shop more
Last book I read: Marilyn Monroe The Biography by Donald Spoto

S Vintage Filter palette: at the little Sephora, a SA was kind enough to get it in the back room. They wouldn’t at the big Sephora. Happens a lot: things aren’t stocked yet, but are listed online as available at given stores. Bite set. Beetroot looks more like
Kir Royale on me than your dupes. Lip/skin color differences. Needed that primer/liner. As a liner, like it better thanOzone, which only feels ok as a primer. It was kind of the SA to get one out. Really like the staff at that little Sephora.
W/e: ssdd. Maybe a state park or uphill hike w/Jussi. More seasonal changing of clothes, living room, kitchen.
Book: reading a poorly written account of a serial killer nurse. You’d think ID Discovery would satiate me on true crime.
Did you really use up a Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation already?

KJH Avatar

I like bite better as a liner. Ozone feels very peculiar outside the lip line. Unpleasant. I don’t think I’ve done enough with bite as primer….one day only. Ozone is good for longevity. Came upon a forgotten benefit d’liner, it’s wide like bite and ozone. The width makes me use it as a line filler, which I never do with a standard pencil size one. Funny, I could. Guess I thought you were supposed to do something different with a big barrel clear pencil. How curious.

Haul: My Sephora Play box arrived this week so it’s sort of a haul.
Weekend: No clue other than cleaning and video games. I’m craving sushi terribly badly so that might be in future.
Last Book: That was a book in a series called Vampire Earth, I’ve read them all now.

Haul: (ordered but not shipped) Prescriptives Flawless Skin Broad Spectrum foundation, Makeup Geek eyeshadows in Tiki Hut, Tucson Sun, Americano, Cherry Cola, Morocco and Wild West, and 2 z palettes!
Weekend plans: Going out to dinner with about 8 of my friends tonight, going to see a musical with my mom tomorrow, and Sunday I might go to a reddit meetup if I wake up in time!
What was the last book you’ve read?: Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls

Haul: MAC Halsey. What a fantastic lipstick! I ordered it a while ago, but I never got it. Tracking said it was delivered, but my kids and I were all home that day, and no one saw the package. Anyway, MAC customer service was fantastic, and they replaced it and sent it with 2-day shipping at no cost to me. I also picked up some e.l.f. from Target: Flawless Finish Foundation in Porcelain, a couple Ultimate Blending Brushes (I broke my old one somehow), and a couple 3-in-1 Mascaras.

Weekend plans: Nothing concrete, but I want to get out of the house. I’m going stir crazy!!! A grocery shopping trip is probably in order, as well. Continuing to mourn the loss of Prince.

What was the last book you’ve read? I can’t remember! With the Flu Virus From Hell cycling through my household the last couple months, I’ve been to busy and tired to read books. It was probably some escapist fantasy, sci fi, or horror novel on my Kindle.

Rachel R. Avatar

Definite “Yay!” for the customer service, especially since I’ve not happy with Ulta and e.l.f. lately (concerning tech issues with their sites, not any product issues). I don’t even buy much MAC, but they treated me as though I were a big customer.

Yes, I’ve worn Halsey, and I’m so impressed with how creamy and opaque it is. It’s exactly what I was hoping for. I’d like to see it become permanent. I’ve been super-into grays and grayed shades this last year. They really work on me.

Oh, I forgot to mention because it arrived last weekend, but I snagged a barely used MAC Jealousy Wakes from Glambot. (I verified it was authentic when I got it.) I just want to say what an insanely gorgeous, perfect emerald shade it is. You did a great job on it, and I’m so happy to own it now.

I’ve lived in Minnesota for the last 8+ years, and the mourning of Prince is very strong and very real. Although I wasn’t a huge fan before he died, the grief is hitting me pretty hard. Planning to wear my only purple dress at my work tomorrow, so hopefully I won’t get fired for breaking the all-black dress code.

Last book I read: Maze of Souls by J.L Bryan. Ghost hunting type book, it’s #6 in a series

I really like it. It’s very pigmented and has a lovely finish. I had a sample and I played around with it. I think it needs to be set with a powder or it gets a bit shiny.

Megan, I was wondering how you like the NYX pore filler? A blogger mentioned it was her HG primer, so I was thinking of trying it, to use on my cheeks on bad pore days. Is it very silicone-y?

Megan H Avatar

Hey Katherine,
I’ve only used it once, last night actually! And so far I like it. I feel like it does it’s job in minimizing the look of pores on my cheeks right next to my nose.
The first ingredient is dimethicone if that answers your question about silicone. But I don’t find it distracting or unusable because of it. I little bit goes a long way for me.

A lovely photo of a restful Mellon.
Haul – nothing really this week
Weekend Plans: Taking my grand daughter for a ride on Puffing Billy – it is a steam train that goes through the forest of our local hills. We will have a picnic by the lake at the end of our journey. It is a great day out.
Last Book Read: Same author as who Christine has been reading, Robert Galbraith (aka J. K. Rowling) The Silkworm – second book in a series of murder mysteries. Great book.

Weekend plans: noooo idea

What was the last book you’ve read?: I re-read (for the nth time) A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage.

Haul: As I’m in Paris, I’ve been looking in a small Sephora and Kiko in the shopping centre near our apartment that we’re staying in. Felt a bit overwhelmed by Sephora as I’ve never been in one before and it was heaving with security staff, so I only got little shower cream capsules and an Erborian pink perfect face primer. I also got La Roche Posay Toleraine from the pharmacy nearby, and my God, I have missed Toleraine! My skin sighed with relief and my seborrhoeic dermatitis finally has settled down properly. I’ll have another look at Kiko before we go back home.

Plans for weekend: Doing a literary walk of the Left Bank and visiting the Palace of Versailles. We went on a sightseeing boat trip down the Seine today, it was very enjoyable.

Last book I read: Iris Grace. A lovely book about an autistic girl and her service cat. I don’t have enough focus or concentration these days for novels. I’m hoping once my b12 injections are upped to be more frequent, that will improve. I cannot absorb it thru diet or tablets as I have Crohns.

Haul: CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream vs. It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream. I’m doing an experiment – CeraVe on the right side of my face and Confidence on the left to see which one has a more positive effect on my skin. So far, the CeraVe makes my skin feel softer.
Clinique Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base
Clinique Redness Solutions Makeup in Alabaster
Clinique Airbrush Concealer in Neutral Fair
Benefit Watt’s Up highlighter

Weekend plans: Volunteering at the Humane Society, Game of Thrones season premiere!

What was the last book you’ve read?: I always have some kind of book going. The last two I finished were rereads: Swan Song by Robert McCammon and We Are All Completely Fine by Daryl Gregory. Currently, I’m finishing They Thirst by Robert McCammon. It is partially the inspiration for the Guillermo del Toro novel series and TV show, “The Strain”. Very good!
