ColourPop No Shame Creme Gel Liner
ColourPop No Shame Creme Gel Liner ($5.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “saturated blackened violet.” It’s a muted, blackened plum with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The texture wasn’t as creamy as other pencils in the range, though it wasn’t dry and didn’t tug on the lash line when I tried using it. It had semi-sheer pigmentation in one pass, and it was buildable to semi-opaque coverage, but it didn’t layer as well as I had hoped (it almost lifts the color in places). The color wore well for eight and a half hours on me. The pot version is darker, richer. Stila Black Amethyst (P, $22.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop No Shame (P, $7.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Ash Violet (DC, $16.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). MAC Nightcast (P, $17.00) is lighter (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Twilight Night (P, $23.00) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). Make Up For Ever M80 Matte Plum (P, $21.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). ColourPop No Shame Creme Gel Colour ($6.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “saturated blackened violet.” It’s a blackened purple with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation with a lightly creamy consistency–creamy enough that it was pigmented and didn’t skip on the skin, but it dries down very, very quickly and becomes unworkable once it is applied so be patient and careful when using. It wore well for ten hours on me before thinning subtly. ColourPop No Shame (P, $7.00) is lighter (90% similar). Stila Black Amethyst (P, $22.00) is lighter (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Purp-a-trader (P, $22.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Nightcast (P, $17.00) is lighter (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Twilight Night (P, $23.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Ash Violet (DC, $16.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Make Up For Ever M80 Matte Plum (P, $21.00) is lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
ColourPop Best O Creme Gel Liner ($5.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “deepened burgundy.” It’s a dark, burgundy with warm, plummy red undertones and an ultra-matte finish–it’s very flat and appears almost dry. The texture is actually creamy, but it dries down to an all-matte finish with absolutley no sheen. Once it dries down, it is hard to smudge, so it’s an eyeliner that wears better but can be unforgiving if you make mistakes (you’ll need remover to fix!). On me, the eyeliner wore well for nine hours before thinning slightly. The pencil is quite a bit lighter and has a stronger warm tone to it than the pot version. ColourPop Best O (P, $7.00) is darker (85% similar). Chanel Psyche (959) (P, $34.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Estee Lauder Burgundy Suede (P, $28.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Charmer (P, $7.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Fine(wine) (P, $24.00) is lighter (80% similar). Wayne Goss Deep Amethyst (P, $14.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). bareMinerals 6AM (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, cooler (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
ColourPop Best O Creme Gel Colour ($6.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “deepened burgundy.” It’s a deep, dark burgundy with a slightly muted and a matte finish. It had good color payoff in a single pass and didn’t skip or drag when I applied it to the lower lash line with an angled brush. The color is deeper in the pot form than in the pencil. The color lasted for ten hours without fading or smudging on me. MAC Dark Diversion (DC, $16.00) is darker, glossier (95% similar). ColourPop Best O (P, $7.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Earth Sign (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Illamasqua Havoc (P, $27.50) is darker, glossier (95% similar). Burberry Pale Grape No. 04 (P, $29.00) is darker (95% similar). Sephora Love Affair (DC, $10.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). MAC Macroviolet (P, $16.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). ColourPop Charmer (P, $7.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Black Plum (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Wayne Goss Deep Amethyst (P, $14.00) is cooler (85% similar). MAC Raisinette (P, $17.00) is darker (85% similar). Chanel Cassis (83) (P, $34.00) is lighter (85% similar). Chanel Psyche (959) (P, $34.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). bareMinerals 5PM (P, $15.00) is darker (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
ColourPop Call Me Creme Gel Liner ($5.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “deep, plummy brown.” It’s a dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a totally flat, matte finish. It had semi-opaque coverage in a single stroke, and it was fairly buildable to opaque coverage with two to three layers. The pencil was lightly creamy and didn’t skip or drag on the lash line, despite looking dry in the swatch, it is quite creamy until it dries down (which is almost instantly). This shade wore well for eight and a half hours. It appeared lighter and warmer compared to the pot version. Make Up For Ever M60 Matte Dark Brown (P, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). Make Up For Ever G*psy (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Demolition (P, $22.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Make Up For Ever #25L (P, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Coffee (PiP, $21.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Makeup Geek Espresso (DC, $9.00) is glossier (90% similar). Laura Mercier Espresso (P, $24.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Stubborn Brown (PiP, $16.00) is warmer (90% similar). Sephora Tiramisu (PiP, $10.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Call Me (P, $7.00) is darker (85% similar). ColourPop Call Me Creme Gel Colour ($6.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “deep, plummy brown.” It’s a rich, dark chocolate brown with warm, reddish undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was intensely pigmented with a lightly creamy consistency that made it easy to work with, but it dries down quickly and doesn’t budge after that, so you have to be careful and have a steady-hand to avoid mistakes. Once it dries down, the color doesn’t move. MAC Past Twilight (DC, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). Makeup Geek Espresso (DC, $9.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Demolition (P, $22.00) is warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Crave (DC, $22.00) is darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Stag (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). I love these shades. They would all be great for bringing out the green in my eyes. Too bad there’s not a little more play time with the pot liners.
I agree — if they had more time, they would be very versatile!
I’m a bit disappointed about No Shame in the pencil form, I badly need a deep purple for my waterline but it doesn’t look like it would work there too well. I’m really impressed by all the pot gel liners though, incredible intensity!
I think when you use No Shame in practice, the shortcomings aren’t quite as apparent (which is how I feel with most eyeliners in pencil form!).
These reviews are pretty promising! Definitely less disappointing than the MUG mattes, at least! Lol.
I’m curious to see how the pastel eyeliners will do. I picked up the lavender & it’s arriving on Saturday, so I really hope it’s comprable in rating.
And if all this isn’t enough, Colourpop announced that they’re dropping their holiday sets on Monday. I love that brand but they make me feel like I can never catch a breath with all these nonstop releases!!
So much stuff! I wonder if they’ll also have a full holiday release on top of the sets, haha.
Yes they are having 3 sets for the holidays releasing nov 2!!!!! A set of lippies, a set of shadows, and a set of liners and gel pots!!!!!
Shame that No Shame gel liner isn’t nearly as nice, smooth, and pigmented as its sister in the pot. I’m getting lazy and hate futzing around with liner in a pot. I haven’t even looked at a pot of liner in ~scratches head~…
Love this whole colour group here though. And, of course, love the price!
Hahahaha! Yes, pencils are infinitely more convenient! It is smoother than it looks, at least, but it just has such a matte finish.
I like No Shame in the pot, but wish it was a little bit more purplish
I understand!
The gel-pot versions on Best O and No Shame would have to be my favorites out them all. Definitely need those two, because they are such green and/or hazel eyed friendly shades! So yes, these will be in my next order.
Yayy!
The Best O and No Shame gels are really nice!
They are very rich!
I ordered a lot of liners but now i kinda wish i would of got the pots. They are so much more saturated and it seems you got longer wear time. I’m not the best at applying pot liners and these dry so fast. There isn’t any room for mistakes with these. My order arrives today i can’t wait to try them out! Super excited for Nov 2nd!
Keep me posted on how you like the formula, Trina! I look forward to hearing your thoughts 🙂 There are so few reviews out!
Bummer about No shame pencil! I lust threw down $32 for the Chanel Vamp collection pencil. It’s a LE and I really don’t want to fall in love with it. But, from swatching it at the display, I just might! I cheap knock off would be great! Hey Christine have you noticed that all the MJB highliners are pulled from Sephora’s website? I can’t find my “in the buff” which is my go to for my lower waterline. So, I rushed to order in an emergency situation. All the shades are exed out! I’m guessing it must have to do with them being stiff? My Stonefox is a nub and I used it twice maybe. Agh..I have no In the buff though!
They pulled the Highliners off a month or so ago, and then the listing was back but everything was out of stock. Did they totally pull them again?
I asked their PR team, but I never heard back!
I noticed they were empty at the Sephora display. I liked them, but the SA said that they were crumbling or cracking, and they were being re-formulated.
Sounds like it. I called Sephora to see what was up. They said it was an issue with quality control on the end of MJB. Hope they come back soon. I know they are pricey. But, they’e my faves. I’m going to have to tear my house apart to try to find my line ” in the buff ” pencil! 🙂 Its driving me nuts not knowing where it is! Lol
MJ sent a letter when the eyeliners were to be pulled. I believe (it’s been a little while so I don’t remember the exact details) there was a issue with the cap or casing itself causing the liner to dry up and break. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a way to find out what pencils were affected, so they decided to pull them all rather than risk customers getting a damaged one. At the moment, they haven’t sent more and I’m not sure when they are.
Thanks for the info, Vanessa!
You’re welcome Christine! ?
I’m SO glad the Best O potted liner did well! I’ve been looking for a gel-pot liner that exact color for more than a year now, and at $6 and an A rating I literally couldn’t have asked for more!
Hope you love it, Kat!
I love all these shades. The Call me color might be too warm but they all look nice. I wish there just a hint of sheen though. How do these do on the waterline?
Waterline wear is shorter.
Although these aren’t my colours at all, I can see how others with warm toned complexions would love them. But, ultimately I think they would be too tricky to use, especially if you are rushing to work.
Definitely a product worth playing with a few times when you’re not in a rush to get the hang of it!
I like the look of Best O creme gel liner in the pot.
Awesome!
are they replacements for bobbi brown gel eyeliner? in sense of longevity, lasting power on oily lids, hooded eyes? great review!
I don’t have oily or hooded eyes, unfortunately!
I’m super happy about Best O because MAC Dark Diversion is like a HG shade for me but it was LE.
YAY!
You have no idea how glad I am that the gel pots are doing so well! The colors are all so unique so I was super excited and I’m glad they’re living up to my hype. I hope Fast Lane performs just as nicely because I’ve developed an obsession with teal recently.
I’m deffo picking up Best O in my next order and I’m sure No Shame and Call Me will worm their way into my hoard shortly afterwards!
Fingers crossed for your Fast Lane! 😉
I’m loving some of these liners!! I do wish some of the bright ones had some shimmer to them though. I can never have enough green/teal/purple liners!
I hope they’ll do more shimmery shades in the future!
I hope so!
Best O is my favorite here!
Yay!
Of the items listed above, I purchased Best O and I must say that I am impressed! I swear that Colour Pop can do no wrong! I have about 30-35 items from their brand. Of those, there’s only one item that I did not like…I think that’s pretty good!?
That is so great to hear, Miss Jae!! They are pretty good, IMO. Only a few misses, and it’s rare to have a full on fail!
Man. I am a total sucker for brownish burgundies so BEST O just looks so amazing to me. I’m gonna have to grab that liner! So glad to read that it wears well and dries down completely matte. I have completely oil lids that are hooded (asian) however and always wear waterproof liners – think BEST O liner would work for me?
Best O is a very powerful liner – very cool, I think. I think it could work for you!
So my package arrived two days ago and I’ve been wearing several of the pencil liners for yesterday the whole day. I somehow noticed a lot of transfer on my lid from DTLA (pencil). Bee Sting faded kinda fast on me too (half-day). The shimmer ones are pretty good on my waterline tho. I’ll give DTLA another try, with primer and see how it goes. It’s such a beautiful color!!!! Swerve (pitch black) in the pot is really great, also!
I’m glad at least a few are working out for you!
