Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.42 oz.) contains sixteen eyeshadows; fourteen in heart-shaped pans and two in oversized, rectangular-shaped pans. It is a primarily neutral palette that leans medium-to-dark with a few more neutral shades in it. There are four “pops” of color I would say, and there is a fair amount of pink in it (very light pink, light pink, light-medium pink, fuchsia). I liked it overall, and I found it one of the easiest Too Faced palettes to apply without primer as less shades sheered out in this palette.
Almond Truffle is a muted, medium-dark mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had a really soft, smooth texture that kicked up a smidgen of excess powder, but it blended out well and applied with most of the color intact. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Laura Mercier Cashmere (PiP, $23.00) is lighter (95% similar). LORAC Mauve (PiP, $19.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). theBalm Feisty (P, $16.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). Cashew Chew is a muted, light peachy-pink with warm undertones and a satin shimmer. It was slightly powdery, and it tended to look drier on my skin, so it is one that looks better over a primer (especially one with some slip). It had so-so color payoff but was prone to sheering out. This shade was faded after six hours of wear. Makeup Geek Sorbet (DC, $6.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Bubbly (LE, $16.00) is lighter (90% similar). Bordeaux is a muted, dark burgundy-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a silky, smooth texture that was blendable and didn’t turn patchy on me (which was a real surprise!) as it is thinner in overall feel. Mocha is a muted, medium brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a lightly dusty but smooth consistency that blended out well and wasn’t fussy to work with. The coverage seemed better built-up than a one-and-done kind of shade. The color started to fade after seven and a half hours of wear. Coloured Raine Nighty Night (LE, $6.99) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop My Type (PiP, $4.50) is cooler (95% similar). Black Currant is a dark, purple-plum with warm, copper undertones and a sparkling, frosted finish. It had the driest texture in the palette, and it was fussier on the lid as it tended to turn a little patchy. It is better to use Almond Truffle to blend it out than to blend it on its own, I think. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours. MAC Universal Appeal (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Pop (PiP, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). Dark Truffle is a deep, dark chocolate brown with warm undertones and a reddish undertone paired with a pearly sheen. It had intense color payoff with a really smooth, dense texture that applied well to bare skin. It blended out nicely, but it’s a shade that is dense enough that getting sheerer coverage out of it isn’t as feasible. It wore well for eight hours on me. LORAC Unafraid (PiP, $19.00) is warmer (95% similar). Dior Precious Embroidery #4 (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Giorgio Armani Senso (10) (DC, $39.00) is lighter (95% similar). Pecan Praline is a light-medium taupe brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had so-so pigmentation with a lightly dusty texture, even though it was very silky and smooth to the touch. It tended to lose intensity as it was blended out, so it would need a primer to be a real lid shade but would work fine as a transition/blending shade. It started to fade after seven and a half hours of wear. NARS L'Amour, Toujours L'Amour #7 (DC, $25.00) is warmer (95% similar). theBalm B3 (LE, $16.00) is cooler (90% similar). Totally Fetch is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and fine iridescent shimmer. Earl Grey is a blackened teal with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin shimmer. The teal comes through more strongly when it is diffused and blended out, but if applied more heavily, it tends to look like a charcoal black instead. The texture is somewhat dusty and dry, so it doesn’t adhere as well tob are skin–would definitely recommend a primer with this one. It wore well for seven and a half hours. Hi Christine. Thanks for the amazing swatches as always! Which palette is your fave and why? (of the ‘Chocolate Bar’ palettes by Too Faced). I have the original and that works great for me but so far I have left it at that! =)
This Bon Bon one looks really pretty…..
The only palette that sticks out prominently from the brand that I liked was Pretty Rebel. I guess if I had to pick from the Chocolate Bar series, the original Chocolate Bar.
I LOVE Pretty Rebel and haven’t been tempted enough to pick up another one since…
Thanks! That makes sense. I missed out on the Pretty Rebel palette but the colour selection in it looked amazing! Cool I have the original. Think I’ll just stick with that! I heard there’s a peach palette coming out as well…
This is such a pleasant surprise! I haven’t been excited about any of the Too Faced holiday sets and did not care for the Semi Sweet palette, so I didn’t have high hopes for this one. Looks lovely though, and Too Faced is a formula that I find much improved over a primer, so I think this will be very wearable.
I totally agree — TF’s eyeshadows tend to perform significantly better over primer. I think it is the thinness of their formula that makes it harder to use and wear on bare skin.
Sometimes, I wonder if they do it on purpose so people feel the need to pick up some Shadow Insurance as well…..
But yep, I do agree that their shadows go up significantly over primer.
To be totally honest, I don’t know why every brand isn’t like “USE OUR PRIMERRRRRRRR!”
No real dudes, I’m very pleased actually. Cashew Chew would be a transition shade on my fair skin anyways rather than a full lid colour.
So I’m glad I ordered it. As someone else said there are a ton of dupes, which I don’t own, but also this combination of shades really a pealed to me as well.
Woohoo! I am so glad this will work for you 😀
Quick question, when you say “with primer” in your summaries, does that mean you didn’t test these out with primer? That the amount of time these shadows lasted on you were primer free? I just want to make sure that’s correct.
Correct. I don’t test with primer, as the majority of eyeshadows say that they are long-wearing on their own (and I try to rate based on what the brand claims).
It does look like one of the best eyeshadow palettes by Too Faced. Not being a fan of pink I’m not sure this would be the best choice in terms of neutral palette for me though!
Thank goodness I’m not all head-over-heels for this palette, because yet AGAIN, Too Faced added Sodium Saccharin as an ingredient! But as these shades run quite pink, I don’t even love this palette. Too many light or pale pinks to look good on me, so I’ve been spared a lemming!
Thank you for all your reviews Christine! I always look forward to them.
xoxo
B is good enough for me. I have to use primer with almost everything, anyway.
I think I’m going to get it. I like the color combination and I use primer. So, I think that will boost the performance. The packaging, I gotta admit, it’s pushing me over the fence. I’m going to wait though and see if Ulta gets it before the 20% off coupon I have expires on the 24th. I have a lot of gifts to finish up too. Thanks for the amazingly thorough review! 🙂
A decent palette, your review definitely makes me want to buy it now!
The color combo really appeals to me. I love pinks and lately I’ve been getting into those warm, reddish browns. I can see using every color, which is rare for me. There are (for me) three matte transition shades AND three matte crease deepening shades, with a mix of taupe and brown, which is also an accomplishment for a palette. It’s permanent, right? I’ll wait a few months and see if I still want it.
Any idea if this will be released in Mexico?!
If this is without primer, I’m very excited to see try it with! There’s no duds like Blueberry Swirl or Candied Violet in the previous palettes 😀 And OMG PACKAGING!!
I believe this is permanent, correct? I’m always unsure especially when items are released during holiday season haha.
I wish this had been just a touch more neutral/cool in tone I’d consider it. I’m still not feeling it as much MUFE, UD, or those Ciaté palettes though.
I must say I actually like this palette a lot more than I though I would. I really have more neutral palettes than I need, but I thin they did a good job with this one. I like that there are quite a few pinkish colours in it. It’s on my wishlist.
I’m sad about black currant. It was my favorite shade. 🙁
I would still have gotten it but the outer corner of your first look looks patchy and I rarely see that with you.
I have a question unrelated to this. I bought the MUFE 15 artist palette and was so disappointed. It swatched well but then when I tried put them in my eyes with a brush, they wouldn’t transfer. So many of them were just bad. And I absoltuely love their singles.
I saw in your review that you compared them to your singles so I am very confused. Especially as I am not the only one who experienced this. There are many people in the reviews who returned it.
So you really found no difference in the way the brush picked up the eyeshadows from your singles? I guess I was wondering if when you compared them, you did finger swatches but not compared the two with brushes on eyelid. I’m just confused and wondering if a percentage of the palettes were duds or what. Thanks in advance.
Ah I’m glad to read this! I’ve been hoping that this would get a decent review. I love all the shades in this palette, & it seemed like it would be better than this year’s holiday sets. It looks like it’s good that I held out this holiday season! ?
I love the cute packaging!
Some of these look really nice so I’m a bit on the fence, though I have dupes of so many of these and really don’t want another Totally Fetch. I dunno – I guess I’ll have to wait and see how these look if/when they arrive and bearing in mind that (at least according to TF’s site) this is something like 20 bucks more here.
I really like the first two chocolate bar palettes, so I fully intend on picking this up at some point. No rush though.
Christine, is this Permanent or LE? It doesn’t say above. Also – is the blush set LE? Thanks!
It seems to be permanent, but I don’t have any official info from TF – just going off of their website + Sephora!
This is the first TF Chocolate palette that I’ve really liked. I love all of the pinks, the Bordeaux, and the inclusion of so many nice matte shades. Cashew Chew would be a nice all-over base so the lack of pigmentation and sheerness is actually a plus for me. If I decide to rid my stash of a two or three palettes that one of my daughters would get more use from than I have, this would be a great Valentine’s Day gift. =)
I’m sort of glad I didn’t pick this up in the rush of it being released with the 20% off code. As someone who missed out on Pretty Rebel, i really wanted this for Totally Fetch so am a bit disappointed it doesn’t perform as well and between having the Original chocolate bar and Naked 1-3, I think I can dupe almost everything in there.
There’s probably a tad too much pink in this one for my taste, but overall it does look like a really nice palette.
You think this is suited for neutral-warm toned skin types? Or what skin type do you think this is goes well with? Thank you for the review I always go to your site first before I purchase, your reviews are spot-on 😉
Yes, I think it would work for neutral-warm 🙂
Thank you!
Hello Christine, i want to buy an eyeshadow palette because it would be my first one, i’m considering three options the lorac pro original, chocolate bar and naked 1. What would you recommend me?
What is your favorite eyeshadow formula? LORAC & Too Faced tend to be thinner but softer, while Naked1 is denser and also more shimmery as a whole!
I like the variety of neutral looks that we can get out of these colours, it’s very pretty! I just really don’t like the heart-shaped pans – can’t do it !
This does look so pretty! I think I’ll play with a sample in person when it comes out in Australia before I decided if I want to purchase it or not, but I think I’m leaning that way.
If you had to choose between this palette and the Vegas Nay Stardust palette, which do you think would be the winner?
I already have the original chocolate bar, but I was craving a new palette… Both the Bon bons and stardust one are calling to me, but I only want/need one!
Maybe this one – I think you have more variety in it.
I always come to you before I buy something – you have the most informative and thorough reviews I’ve ever seen. Thanks for another great review!
Thank you, Abby! xo
