Tarte In Bloom Tartelette 2 Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Tarte In Bloom Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette
Tarte In Bloom Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette ($45.00 for 0.63 oz.) includes twelve eyeshadows in a warmer, neutral-hued theme. I liked it overall, and I think if you normally use primer or have good luck with Tarte’s eyeshadow formula, you’ll likely enjoy the formula as well. I think it is, undoubtedly, dupable, and I think if they had opted for less warm-tones, it might have been more unique among the slew of neutral palettes previously released.
Charmer is a very light, neutral-to-warm-toned beige with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, smooth consistency that was a little dusty but blendable. The color started to fade noticeably after seven hours of wear. bareMinerals Chance (PiP, )(100% similar). Urban Decay Thirteen (PiP, $19.00)(100% similar). Smokeshow is a deep, blackened brown with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had fairly good pigmentation, but it is buildable, so if you want the deeper color as seen in the pan, it is possible. The texture felt smooth in the pan, but it was on the thinner side and had a tendency to turn patchy on me if I wasn’t very careful about placement and tools. It lasted well for eight hours. MAC Dance in the Dark (PiP, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). NARS L'Amour, Toujours L'Amour #4 (DC, $25.00) is warmer (95% similar). Chanel Architectonic #4 (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Flower Child is a light-medium peach with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage with a soft, lightly dusty texture that was blendable. It did look a little chalky against my skin tone (medium with yellow undertones), just as a heads up. This shade started to fade after seven hours. Tom Ford Beauty Naked City (LE, $36.00) is cooler (95% similar). Tarte Whisper (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). LORAC Fawn (LE, $19.00) is warmer (95% similar). Smarty Pants is a medium brown with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. The texture was slightly dusty and thin, so this shade was prone to sheering out when I was using it. It had good pigmentation if patted on, so it is going to be a shade better over a primer for sure. It lasted for seven hours. NARS Maya Bay (DC, $25.00) is darker (95% similar). Urban Decay Downfall (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Huda Beauty Smokey #2 (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Social Butterfly #2 (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Hazelnut Bon Bons (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). ColourPop Bel Air (P, $4.50) is darker, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Wilshire (LE, $6.00) is brighter (85% similar). Firecracker is a medium-dark, bronzy brown with warm undertones and a golden copper frost. It had nice color payoff, and it applied and adhered well to the eye, but the texture was a little dry. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours for me. City Color Sandstorm (P, $6.99) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (95% similar). ColourPop Auburn (LE, $4.50) is brighter (95% similar). Zoeva Subtle Blend (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Activist is a muted, dark brown with subtle, cool red tones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a thinner, drier texture; this one was hard to blend out, as it would apply unevenly and look patchy on me. The color lasted for closer to seven and a half hours. MAC Earthy Scent (LE, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury The Rock Chick #4 (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Belle Femme (LE, $16.00) is warmer (95% similar). Tarte Dim the Lights (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). LORAC Espresso (Mega Pro) (LE, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Sweetheart is a muted, medium peachy-orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was dustier and thinner, which resulted in semi-opaque coverage. It wasn’t very buildable, as it would sheer out when I tried to blend or manipulate the color on the skin. I was able to get six and a half hours of wear out of it. Too Faced Nougat (PiP, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Stila Clay (LE, $18.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Smashbox Supermodel (PiP, ) is brighter (90% similar). Rebel is a muted, medium-dark red-brown with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, smoooth texture that blended well on bare skin. I noticed fading at the seven and a half hour mark. Too Faced Girl's Night (LE, $16.00)(100% similar). MAC No Me Queda Mas (LE, $17.00)(100% similar). Leader is a dark, red-toned brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, and it was dry and thin, which just made it hard to use on the lid as it would apply unevenly and look even worse if blended (it is the type to stick and then not want to move from wherever it first stuck!). This one definitely needs primer underneath it, and I would highly recommend building it in layers or using it over a powder base (maybe Sweetheart or Smarty Pants). It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. ColourPop Dutch Process (PiP, $4.50) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Rhythm (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). I can’t say that I’ve had much luck with Tarte’s mattes, in fact I’ve found them disappointing, so it’s a pass for me. It’s also not quite as exciting to look at as their round palettes!
Seems like an easy pass!
I was hoping this would have done at least a B+ because I’m really drawn to it and I really like the first Tartelette palette. There’s something about Fall/ winter that puts me in a neutrals kick. Summer / spring – I ‘ll be craving colors again. It’s so weird.I’m a regular primer user. One more pretty palette in the stack. I think need this!
I think if you use primer, you’ll be good to go, Nicole!
Thanks for the review Christine! I already own the UD Naked 2 palette, do you think this is similar?
Not really, this is definitely warmer and more matte!
I have enough neutrals already but it’s a nice combo of finishes and light/med/dark colors. For the shadows that are thinner and drier, you can use a cream shadow base , and this could be a nice workhorse type palette
A good base is key for this one!
I’ve gone from “this is so dupe-able” to “I have to have this if only for Rocker and Smokeshow”!!! I hope I can convince myself I don’t need it but I have that funny feeling that this might be one I get, assuming it actually comes to Canadian Sephoras and isn’t $125!!!!
Haha! From what I’ve heard rumor-wise, it will be elsewhere other than Ulta, but I haven’t heard from Tarte directly!
(Sorry, Christine, I posted this in the sneak peek post, then I realized I should have posted here.)
Mine arrived today, and I think it’s amazing. Are the colors dupable? Yes, but I needed to expand my mattes collection and I loved the original so much, this one was a no-brainer for me. The packaging is beautiful.
My take: Pigmentation is fantastic. I think the shades are well thought out into rows of quads, but also can be mix and matched. The top row is cool, and I really like the warm rosy and burgundy tones in the other two rows. The texture is as smooth and blendable as the first, and I don’t find these dry at all. They are a bit powdery. It definitely leans more warm than the original. I don’t think most of the shades are as dark as they look online, but this does run darker than the original. The browns don’t turn muddy on me. (I’m very fair with neutral undertones, hazel/green eyes.) The shimmers are beautiful andlook great on the eyelids.
I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying your palette so far, Rachel! I really appreciate you taking the time to review.
More like a first impressions, but you’re welcome. I should have added that funny girl has quite a bit of fallout for me, more than the other shades. It’s really pretty as a browbone and inner corner highlight, though.
I like it a lot, but I think the original was a little better quality.
After reading the review and paying very careful attention to the dupes given, and this palette’s inconsistencies, it’s going to have to be a not so easy pass. It’s just the hard, cold truth that I not only have dupes galore, but the overall quality of those dupes is much better.
I’m glad you have some dupes to keep you busy 🙂
Why does Tarte insist on giving all of these neutral palettes floral names? I have yet to see a brown, taupe or charcoal-colored flower.
If they’re going to call something “in bloom” it should have some color.
Sorry, this just bugs me on principle, ha…
LOL!
Rocker is my favorite here though I am surprised by Firecracker. It’s very pretty!
Yay!
I love the firecracker color but I’m not buying an entire palette for it!
I bet there’s a dupe for it that would get you close 🙂
I can’t tell the difference between one Tarte palette from another. Some of the colours have different names for the same colour. This is just repetitive Tarte. Lovely eye look Christine.
They do tend to run together!
I’m more than likely going to pass on this. There are at least 6 of those colors that will looks ashy…or just strange on me. BUT I think I’m going to have to go in and swatch this to get rid of that tiny voice in my head that tells me this MIGHT work for me. Thanks Christine!
My pleasure, Diana! 🙂
I was excited for a second Tartlette palette, but the shades are all too similar and the only pop of colour is SWEETHEART, which I wish was better quality as well. Tarte needs more permanent eyedhadow products. lol
They are pretty similar!
Hoping this would be great but nope. Pass. I feel like these tartelette palettes are mediocre so I don’t understand their popularity!
Aww!
I have been anxiously awaiting your review on this one! Disappointed it only merits a B- though. I loooooooove the original tartelette and use it literally every day for matte highlight, transition shades, and to set my liner. If I do enjoy the original tartelette, do you think I’d be pleased with tartelette in bloom too? Or did you notice differences in quality between the two? I’m torn.
I think you would be! It doesn’t feel substantially less in quality to me (I actually “felt” like it was a B+ when I was testing it/writing up the review), and if you normally wear primer, I think you will be totally good.
I completely adore this so much! I don’t own a lot of mattes as I have the original Naked and Too Faced Semi Sweet. I can’t get enough with neutrals as for something that has more mattes and it’s warm toned, this is something I’d love to have in my collection and something I’d really use.
I would like an opinion from you, though. If I have to choose between this and Too Faced Natural Mattes, which would be best for me to have? I wouldn’t mind to have a few shimmers here and there like this palette. lol
I prefer Tarte myself!
The packaging makes me feel like there would be color. I wish they added a pop of color. Firecracker is gorgeous! I think I’ll pass on this palette though.
I could totally see why you’d think that, Lupe!
When is Tarte going to do another one along the lines of Be Mattnificent? They have the capacity…. Less warm Browns. For this one, if I like a shade especially, I’ll go for the MUFE dupe. Overall, it seems that the first Tartlette was a real workhorse, and this one is riding the coat tails, to mix metaphors. Hope that one is still available. But they don’t appeal to me. Or do a greige palette. I feel that Tarte is like a tape loop. If you like the song, you’re there. If not…..
A greige palette would be awesome!
The colors look like some in the Chocolate bar palettes. I don’t have either of those. Do you think I would be better off getting one of those palettes? 🙂
Which palette has more shades you’d use?
I received this palette as a Christmas gift and have been using it nonstop for about two weeks now. Personally, I never go without a shadow primer (usually UD or Too Faced) because I have oily eyelids; that being said, I haven’t had many issues with longevity. Blendability is definitely inconsistent (I agree that the darker shades definitely need a lighter powder underneath to help blend).
I’ve used most of the medium matte shades (middle columns) as blending crease colors for a shimmery lid, and those have worked well. The darker shades work well as an eyeliner (I apply dry with an angled brush – haven’t tried them wet yet). The three shimmers are really beautiful and set this palette apart from the original Tartelette – which made me glad that I didn’t get the original one. 🙂
This palette also smells amazing! I didn’t realize it until the first time I used it – I brought it up to my face to look in the mirror and POW – chocolate!
So glad you’re enjoying the palette, Chelsea!
I already posses Urban Decay 3 and Chocolate Bar palettes, so I`m wondering if I need this one to go. Are they all sharing almost the same color concept? It would be cool to compare all of three palettes and chose The Queen)
They have different shades and finishes, so they’re not really comparable, IMO, by anything other than what you personally prefer. e.g. Tarte is mostly matte, whereas Urban Decay Naked3 has a lot more shimmer. Chocolate bar palette has different finishes and is more orange/brown-based.
Hey I want one better high end palette and I can’t decide between the original Lorac Pro palette and this one here. I am more of a neutral eyeshadow person and I prefer warm ones. Could you please tell me which one you would choose I really can’t decide!
LORAC is probably easier to use!
Great review as always! I’m thinking which one to get, the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bon’s palette or this one. I’m leaning towards the red-browns lately. I have the Naked 3 palette but it’s way too pink on me. Which do you think would suit warm skintones better, this one or the Bon bon’s palette? Thank you!
I think this one!
