Enduring Love (Deep)

Sydney Grace Enduring Love (Deep) Eyeshadow Palette ($52.00 for 0.95 oz.) is a new, permanent palette that features 15 shades across a mix of matte and shimmer finishes. There will also be a Light version of the palette (all of the mattes and Romeo are differ by varying degrees, per the brand) when both palettes launch on January 13th. The quality and performance of the eyeshadows was in line with Sydney Grace’s single eyeshadow range; every shade was pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing with a few that were a smidgen powdery (but not prone to fallout) but was otherwise quite high-performing across the board.

Romeo (Deep)

Romeo (Deep) is a brighter, light-medium orange with moderate, warm undertones and warmer golden shimmer. It had opaque color coverage that applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of product that blended out easily along the edges. The eyeshadow had a soft, lightly dusty texture but wasn’t prone to fallout or sheering out too readily on my skin. It lasted nicely for eight hours on me before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

$6.25/0.06 oz. - $104.17 Per Ounce

The shimmer eyeshadows are more consistent in pigmentation with the majority of shades having opaque color coverage. The more metallic/sparkly the shade is, the creamier and more emollient the eyeshadow felt in the pan, which often yielded really smooth application and good adherence to the lid, though a few worked better with a fingertip or a dampened brush for true-to-pan color or to get a truer finish/sheen.

Most shades, however, worked well with brushes, and I didn't have trouble applying or blending out most of the shimmer shades. The more satin to pearl like finishes tend to feel a little thinner but blend out well. These shades wore between eight and nine hours on me with some of the more foiled-like shades creasing noticeably at the end (and the less foiled-like ones fading).

Juliet (Deep)

Juliet (Deep) is a muted, medium rosy-coral with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a soft, blendable consistency that wasn’t too firmly nor too softly pressed into the pan, so it was easy to work with but didn’t have fallout or excess product that kicked up in the pan easily. The pigmentation was opaque and stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

Formula Overview

$5.25/0.06 oz. - $87.50 Per Ounce

The matte eyeshadows tend to be pigmented (typically semi-opaque or opaque, often buildable if they aren't opaque) with a soft, more velvety texture that has slight slip but isn't so thick that it gets difficult to use, applies unevenly, or has a lot of fallout. I've found that most of the matte eyeshadows apply and blend out without much effort but a few may take a bit more effort to diffuse along the edges. The matte formula tends to wear between eight and eight and a half hours on me.

Devotion (Deep)

Devotion (Deep) is a soft taupe with warmer undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff in a single layer, which adhered well to my lid and blended out easily. The texture felt cream-like, smooth to the touch, and not too softly nor too firmly pressed into the pan, so it picked up well and sat well on my skin. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Elizabeth (Deep)

Elizabeth (Deep) is a medium-dark berry with subtle, cool undertones and a satiny sheen. The consistency was smooth, slightly firmer than other shades, though by no means stiff–it blended out beautifully and with minimal effort–paired with opaque coverage in a single layer. This shade stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading visibly.

Albert

Albert is a brighter, light-medium taupe with cooler undertones and a metallic sheen. It was quite shiny, so it had a tendency to reflect any colors near it so it sometimes looked cooler and warmer depending on the angle and light color. The texture was smooth, creamy without being too dense or thick, so it adhered well to bare skin and blended out well. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading a touch.

Passion (Deep) is a medium, gray-taupe with cool undertones and a matte finish. Boaz (Deep)

Boaz (Deep) is a soft black with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had good pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with less than a second layer. The texture was slightly thinner and seemed more firmly-pressed into the pan than most of the brand’s mattes, which made it easier to control (often an asset with matte black eyeshadows) and blend out, but it wasn’t quite as pigmented as most of the brand’s mattes. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably on me.

Ruth

Ruth is a rich, bluish-teal with cool undertones and a metallic finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, and it was so pigmented that a little went quite a ways that I’d recommend using a bit less than you might expect.
The texture was lightly creamy, dense but not too firmly-pressed into the pan, and blended out easily on bare skin. It lasted well for nine hours before creasing slightly.

John

John is a bright, pewter gold with subtle, warmer undertones and an intense, metallic finish. The texture was lightly creamy, smooth, and dense without being overly thick, so it picked up well with a brush and blended out with ease on my skin. It had rich color coverage that adhered well to bare skin and stayed on nicely for nine hours before creasing slightly.

Abigail (Deep)

Abigail (Deep) is a rich, medium-dark purple with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It was intensely pigmented where a little went a long way. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy so it felt denser but wasn’t thick or too firmly pressed into the pan. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading slightly.

Cherish (Deep)

Cherish (Deep) is a light-medium, golden taupe with warmer undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had excellent color coverage in a single layer, which applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of product that diffused nicely along the edges. It lasted well for eight hours before fading was apparent.

Formula Overview

The matte eyeshadows tend to be pigmented (typically semi-opaque or opaque, often buildable if they aren't opaque) with a soft, more velvety texture that has slight slip but isn't so thick that it gets difficult to use, applies unevenly, or has a lot of fallout. I've found that most of the matte eyeshadows apply and blend out without much effort but a few may take a bit more effort to diffuse along the edges. The matte formula tends to wear between eight and eight and a half hours on me.

Robert (Deep)

Robert (Deep) is a medium-dark taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff that applied smoothly to bare skin and blended out without much effort. The consistency was slightly firm in the pan compared to other shades, but I didn’t have any trouble picking up product or diffusing the edge of it in practice. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Deanna

Deanna is a blackened olive with muted, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was ridiculously pigmented, so I’d recommend using less than you might think you need initially. The texture was smooth, creamy, and soft without being too loosely-pressed, though it seemed slightly less-dense compared to other shimmers in the brand’s range. It wore well for nine hours before starting to crease on me.

I love the colors in this one! And I think my favorite part is that one of the couples is the creators parents (Robert/Deanna). That is so sweet!

kjh Avatar

Omg, I thought it was historical film stars…googled the name of the couple…..Robert Stack and Deanna Durbin. They were an item as well as co-stars. Who knew? And, btw, I’m smitten with this as well, and looking forward to light, too.

Thanks for reviewing this before it launches. Am also interested in the lighter version of the palette. Would you think this palette, which was designed for medium to dark skintones, would equally suit fair to light skintones? Your swatches are really intriguing and some of the colors quite unique, at least for my collection…

Christine Avatar

I don’t have the light palette, so I don’t know what the differences are in person, but the issue for deeper skin tones is the fact that many shades included in pre-made palettes are too light or turn ashy/chalky on darker skin tones whereas those aren’t issues for darker shades on fair skin. Suitability is more about what you like – the kind of colors you’d wear, what you personally like on you, whether you feel the palette is cohesive with this color story (or if that matters), etc.

Tina Avatar

i’ve been wanting taupe and pewter type eye shadows for a while, and held off from buying Charlotte Tilbury or Viserart Cashmere….I think this palette is what I was waiting for! I love that the mattes are gray-neutral and not warm or orangey tones. I’m drooling over the shimmers (light taupe, medium taupe, dark olive, peach too) and am so hyped for the release!!

kjh Avatar

These taupes, pewters, grayed shades are my drop dead favorite neutrals. Plenty here. This has a wonderful variety that is suitable for one and done, all the way through complex looks. SG has talent and imagination to spare.

Genevieve Avatar

Every single shimmer shade in this palette I absolutely love…..and all those beautiful pewter shades that are so hard to get too. Ruth is indeed a dupe for Lapis Luxury….I so adore this palette. I am just not keen on the matte shades as they would look muddy on me.
Stunning eye look Christine.

Valerie Avatar

While the palette is dark and tricky to use on fair skin, I just love the curation and it’s got an impressive rating for 15 shadows. This is what the ND Safari should have been. Going to be tough to resist and I probably won’t and just pick up both this and the light one. That will be it for my January purchases (I’m on a low buy!). Thanks for the review in advance of the release, Christine! There’s no way I would have known about this release otherwise!
I’ll be here with bells on 1/13 ? ?

Mary Avatar

I love this palette, the quality looks very pigmented and smooth.,and the looks you get with it Christine , Deanna , Elizabeth and John are all beautiful .

Ursula Avatar

the color scheme is wonderful…. it reminds me of the tarte winter wonderglam palette which was a complete fail for me because of cheap quality. I even found out that a LE of Essence’s from Santa with Love was from the same manufacturer in Taiwan. I will look if this palette is available in Europe. Your look is beautiful, Christine!

Ivy Avatar

I am so excited for this palette! I discovered Sydney Grace thanks to your site last year, and they have some of the most beautiful olive green metallics I’ve ever tried – so obviously my eye is on Deanna here. As a WOC, I really appreciate the thought they put into making a Light and Deep palette. I think there’s been a lot of discussion about inclusivity in the foundation world, but I don’t feel that it’s come up as much when discussing eyeshadow. The most notable discussion I can think of was when the Jackie Aina x ABH palette came out last year.

It means a lot to me that I brand I admire and respect would do something like this, and as an indie brand, it’s amazing that they’re being this innovative and thoughtful in their choices. And in terms of the color scheme itself, I like that they have a decent balance of warm and cool tones. It’s not exactly a muted palette, but it does stand out in contrast to many of the pink-purple-red palette I’ve seen lately. This palette has many of the silvery and gray colors that I had hoped would appear in Natasha Denona Metropolis, which is one of my favorite palettes. But I love the peachy tones of the first two shades in the Deep version of this palette, I think they’ll be quite flattering.

Overall, I am so excited for this to come out on the 13th – I might even pick up the Light version for a friend as well.

Jane Avatar

Well, well, I only have two good dupes for this one and I really have been wanting to make a Sydney Grace purchase. Not my usual colors, but lots to work with for everyday and evening. Hmmm, should I wait for a light when I could go either way (translate “both” LOL!). I don’t know, will have to wait a see. But thanks a lot for the review! Rating makes it worth it just to support Sydney Grace products.

Raven Avatar

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I have some Sydney Grace shadows and while many work for me, a few of the lighter ones had to be passed on to someone else. My complexion is dark/deep depending on the time of year and frankly, half of this palette appears completely unusable for anyone in my skin tone range. While it is wonderful that the owner wished to create an inclusive palette, I feel that they did not have anyone who was actually dark-skinned to help with the testing of these shades.

A Reddit user did a dark-skinned swatch https://www.reddit.com/r/swatchitforme/comments/eqmuxa/sydney_graces_enduring_love_deep_on_deep_skin/ of the palette and as feared, all of the mattes read as ashy or chalky on her complexion which appears to be close to my own. The shimmers in this palette are utterly gorgeous but the mattes just feel like the weaker side of the collection. And at $52 for a palette where only half of the shades would work for me, this is a very hard pass for my vanity. If the shimmers are ever offered as singles, I would likely buy them but would not touch those mattes without some color adjustments happening.

Thank you deeply for your review as I highly enjoyed it as I do enjoy many of the others you have offered over the years. Your dupes have been a life saver.

Valerie Avatar

Hi Raven,
Thank you for providing the Reddit link, and speaking out about this. I understand ashy as a grey “ash” tint, like when skin gets dry. It could be that my eye isn’t tuned to what looks good on a different skin tone but at first glance, those swatches look like saturated beautiful colors that complement the skin and it’s hard for me to see why all the mattes are off. Do you think it’s a matter of knowing from experience what colors just won’t work or is there a clue in the swatches themselves? I can sort of see it in the 2 mauve shades in the middle, although it could just be an issue with the swatch itself. But the rest of the mattes look so pretty ?‍♀️
