MAC So Obsessed Snow Ball Mini Lipstick Kit Review, Photos, Swatches
So Obsessed
MAC So Obsessed Snow Ball Mini Lipstick Kit ($69.50 for 0.72 oz.) includes 12 miniature-sized lipsticks with two new, exclusive shades with the rest being from the permanent line or were repromotes… except that Ruby Woo and Flat Out Fabulous, which are Retro Mattes, are listed as a Matte in the kit and does, in fact, have a different consistency finish–with Ruby Woo, the different was noticeable, whereas with Flat Out Fabulous it wasn’t quite as drastic. I think it is odd to include permanent shades but change the finish (even slightly), though. Otherwise, I loved the kit overall; I think MAC did a fantastic job packaging the set to the types of shades included, and the price point is just right.
As most of the shades are permanent, and I have reviewed them in the past, I did not re-test the ones that were fairly consistent between the mini and the full-sized for longevity and longevity ratings are based on prior wear times.
Value
A full-sized MAC lipstick retails for $17.50 and includes 0.10 oz. or costs $175.00/oz. The set contains $126.00 worth of product.

Party Commencing
Party Commencing is a light-medium, cotton candy pink with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer, while the lipstick was slightly creamy and did not tug on the lips when applied. The color seeped to pull away around some of my lip lines, and I had trouble with color settling into my lip lines over time, too. It wore well for four and a half hours and was non-drying.

Formula Overview
$19.00/0.1 oz. - $190.00 Per Ounce
MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.
Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.
The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Little Darling
Little Darling is a light-medium coral with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good color payoff in a single stroke with a lightweight, lightly creamy texture that glided easily across the lips and did not tug. The texture had slight slip, and there was color that settled into my lip lines after four and a half hours of wear.

Mangrove
Mangrove is a rich, deep orange-coral with warm, red undertones and a satin finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied beautifully to the lips with even, smooth coverage that sat well on the lips. The texture was creamy without being too slippery, so it was comfortable to wear over the six hours it lasted for.

Ruby Woo (Matte)
Ruby Woo (Matte) is a rich, medium red with cool, blue undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had good color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly across the lips without tugging, which was a departure from the full-sized shade, as that has a flat, matte finish and ultimately appeared a bit darker and less bright in comparison. On me, it wore well for over six hours, left a stain behind, and was non-drying.

Rebel
Rebel is a deep berry with cool undertones and a satin finish and very fine pearl. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single layer, which was hard to build up to full coverage as the consistency had moderate slip. The color went on evenly, though, and I didn’t have issues with color gathering in my lip lines over time. It wore well for over six hours and left a stain behind, while the formula felt slightly hydrating.

Flat Out Fabulous
Flat Out Fabulous is a medium-dark magenta pink with subtle, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had excellent pigmentation with a lightweight texture that was a bit thin but not too clingy. It was less flat matte compared to the full-sized version, but the application itself was easier as the consistency was more emollient and did not tug on the lips. It wore well for over six hours and left a stain behind, though it was neither drying nor hydrating.

Diva is quite cute!
Hey Christine! Did these mini break easily? Or move around and hit the sides of the container easily? I really love the idea of minis, but everyone I’ve tried has always been so delicate. I really wish they would make the bases fatter, but that’s just me. Thanks!
I don’t think any of these broke on me, though I do make sure not to twist minis (in general, not just MAC’s) beyond what I need to avoid breakage.
Oh it’s not just you Jessica. I know exactly what you mean and couldn’t agree more with what you said.
I found them leaning slightly as I worked with them, but also not cranking them up like Christine with any minis makes a huge differnce. Thoug i do agress I’d prefer fatter shorter lipsticks. lol

Thanks Guys! I also do not roll them up more than needed, but I still find that they start sliding and hitting the walls no matter what.
I keep my house at ~74 degrees, so maybe that helps, lol!
LOL! Maybe. I refuse to turn my heat on until Nov. 1. It’s a little frosty, but I just force my cat to snuggle with me.
If not for the fact that I already have 2 of these shades in full-size version, plus that a few shades are just too light on my skintone, I would have bought this. After watching The MACah0lic’s YT video review, I knew that this wasn’t for me. She is NC37 also. Seeing those light pinks, notably, Party Commencing on her made up my mind. All said, I do believe this is an excellent deal, though!
What a super gift for s.o. who wears all colors. If there were a similar set in those darks you posted last today, i’d be storming the bastions. Either have, or duped, on all the colors i’d wear. But very nice set.
Diva is my only really favourite shade from this set, but I like the idea of having a mini set – fun to share with a friend.
This is a fantastic MAC starter set with some of their most popular shades, and great packaging, too. If I didn’t already own a bunch of them, I’d definitely want to get it.
It’s been awhile since I picked up anything from MAC. It has however been a couple of years since I picked up a lipstick from them. O_O
I was suckered into all the LE lipsticks in the past and never bothered with their permanent shades so this was a treat for me to play with some of their best selling shades. I kind of want a full size of LITTLE DARLING…. yeah I’m that kind of pale. lol
But it’s good to know the difference between the full-size Ruby Woo versus the creamer one in this kit.
Stone was the biggest surprise for me, it looks a little grey on me but not too unnatural. 😉
Honestly, even though I have half the colors; I just want this set for the tubes. They’re sooooo pretty. So far, my willpower is holding up. ?
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 16 year old niece (gift wrapped and delivered courtesy of Nordstrom). Thanks for reviewing, Christine! It’s a beautiful collection of lipsticks.
Just ordered it!!!
I found people who wanted the shades I don’t want or already own, so I’m just paying for Ruby Woo, Diva, Mangrove, Flat Out Fabulous, and Stone. (I already own Ruby Woo, but I like that this version has an easier formula.)
My “no-buy” plan has lasted less than a week. Ok, starting…NOW!
