LORAC Pro Palette 3 Review, Photos, Swatches
LORAC Pro Palette 3
LORAC Pro Palette 3 ($44.00 for 0.32 oz.) includes a slim palette that contains 16 eyeshadows along with a miniature-sized eyeshadow primer. It’ll be available on June 12th online and in-stores on June 26th. I liked it, but it is par for the course with most of LORAC’s palettes–warmer, neutral–and will likely feel repetitive for anyone with the two prior Pro Palettes and/or the Unzipped palettes. The mattes applied better in this palette than the past Mega Pros and tended to go on fairly evenly with decent to good pigmentation, though wear was below average (a primer should help that). They seemed to adhere a bit better and had less fall out compared to the last Mega Pro palette. On my skin tone, I did find the shades ended up looking similar applied–the two looks I showed in the review are using different shades but look quite similar!
Blanc is a light, yellowed beige with a matte finish. It had a strong white base, so it may look chalky/ashy on some complexions–just a heads up. The consistency was very smooth and finely-milled with some powder kicked up in the pan, but I found the eyeshadow to have less fall out and better adhesion on the lid. It lasted for seven hours before fading. Zoeva Nighthawks (PiP, ) is more muted (95% similar). Dior Undress #2 (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). Chanel Lueurs Ambrees #4 (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Make Up For Ever M500 Ivory (P, $17.00) is more muted (95% similar). NYX I Have a Headache (P, $4.50) is darker (95% similar). Canvas is a light-medium, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a very soft, finely-milled texture that was somewhat dusty to work with. Cool Taupe is a muted, medium-dark taupe-brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was good, but it wasn’t fully opaque, and the texture was dusty, even though it was silky to the touch, which resulted in it sheering out slightly. It was very blendable, at least, and I think it built-up better than some of the other dusty mattes in the palette. This shade wore well for seven hours on me. Sephora + Pantone Universe Burro (LE, ) is brighter (95% similar). Becca Ombre Nudes #3 (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Makeup Geek Creased (LE, $6.00) is darker (95% similar). Pink Nude is a light, muted peachy-beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. While the texture is very, very silky and finely-milled, there is a fair amount of powder kicked up and a tendency to sheer out on the skin. It was hard to use this as a lid color as it tended to look dusty and drier. I had better luck using it on my brow bone, which seems to have less texture. The color started to fade after seven hours. Urban Decay Framed (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Fenty Beauty Rose Spritz (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). Sephora Walking in the Sand (DC, $10.00) is lighter (95% similar). Clay is a muted, medium-dark brown with warm, reddish tones and a mostly matte finish. The texture was smooth and finely-milled with some dustiness, but it was minor compared to the other shades. Dark Brown is a dark brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was semi-opaque with a soft, blendable consistency that was also dusty, so it sheered out somewhat on the skin but applied fairly evenly for me. Jet Black is a deep black with a matte finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff with a soft, finely-milled texture that was firmer than the other shades but not stiff. It could have been slightly more blendable overall. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours. Smashbox Deadline (PiP, )(100% similar). Huda Beauty Smokey #1 (PiP, )(100% similar). Light Gold is a light, bright peach with warm, yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. The consistency was incredibly soft and smooth, but it did kick up a lot of product in the pan and had some fall out if I didn’t pat it into place (and that’s after tapping away excess prior to getting near my eye!). This shade started to fade after six and a half hours. ColourPop Moony (PiP, $4.50) is darker (90% similar). KVD Beauty Lovestruck (LE, ) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Almond Pearl is a light beige with warm, yellow undertones and a frosted finish. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque pigmentation paired with a very soft, dusty texture–this one sheered out almost instantly and was hard to build-up without a lightly tacky base (LORAC’s primer was not tacky enough). It started to fade after six hours. Sephora + Pantone Universe Autumn Blonde (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Apricot Blend #1 (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Chanel Seduction #2 (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). LORAC Yo-Ho (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). bareMinerals Mixologist (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Medallion is a sparkly, medium-dark bronze with warm undertones anda glittery finish. This is sort of the “are you joking us?” shade in the palette, and I can’t recall coming across such a chunky, glittery mess of a shade from LORAC before, so it was a surprise. Instead of being a denser, creamier formula like some of the high-shimmer shades in the Unzipped palettes, it’s loosely packed and dislodges a ton of product with the merest touch of a brush. The particles are quite chunky and really separate from the base color. It’s a mess to use, results in a lot of fall out (even if you manage to get any of the glitter to stay!) over time. You would need to use a glitter adhesive to get any value out of this one. ColourPop Nillionaire (P, $6.00) is more pigmented, better quality (90% similar). Makeup Geek Utopia (P, $12.00) is darker (85% similar). Makeup Geek Satellite (P, $12.00) is darker (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Taupe (LE, $28.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Archetype (PiP, $8.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Light Pewter is a light-medium beige with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had really good pigmentation, though the consistency was thin and dusty enough that some of the shimmer pulled away from the base color when blended. On my skin tone (light-medium), this one gets lost if I blend it too much as there’s no shimmer to differentiate it from my skin tone (this is a note; it doesn’t affect the rating). It lasted for seven hours on me before fading. MAC French Clay (PiP, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). Smashbox Rock Candy (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Babydoll (PiP, $4.50) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Chemical Bond (P, $8.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Amethyst is a deep plum with warm, brown undertones and a satin sheen. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth, and blendable texture that wasn’t too soft or too firm. Rose Bronze is a light-medium brown with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. The pigmentation seemed quite good, actually, but the texture was thin and dusty, which led to some of the shimmer separating from the base color as well as the color itself sheering out when blended. I would use a tacky base to help this one stay in place. On its own, it lasted for six hours. Tarina Tarantino Agate (DC, ) is lighter (95% similar). Dark Mocha is a deep brown with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. Truffle is a blackened taupe-brown with subtle, neutral-to-cool undertones and a satiny sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a slightly firmer consistency that made it harder to blend out on the lid as it looked somewhat patchy without a primer or base underneath. It’s so weird to me that Lorac failed on shades like Medallion and Rose Bronze! Those are the types of shades that so many companies can and do produce well, and even Lorac has done it before in the Unzipped palettes. How is it possible that they made a good purple but a bad bronze??
I really can’t remember LORAC ever having a texture like Medallion. They have a dustier texture but rarely chunky?
Covered and somewhat disappointed. Curious, without doing the math, how much better would this palette be, without the bring-down of Medallion?
Maybe marginally better? It’s only one out of 16, so it’s not impacting it as much as it would if it was a smaller palette!
It seems like Lorac palettes vary greatly in quality, so I won’t buy anymore without reviews first. I have the Lorac Pro 2, some of the shades are great, but others are so soft that they produce a lot of fallout, even with primer. But the Unzipped is great. This is a skip for me.
I think it’s better than the Mega Pros but prefer the Unzipped palettes to this one.
And the award for the most boring, plain, indistinct palette of the year goes to Lorac Pro 3 Palette!!!
Not much enthusiasm on my part for this. You definitely nailed it when you said that your 2 eye looks you did using different shades each time look indistinguishable. I hear a lot of people saying this is the “fair girls Pro Palette”, except that I don’t think being “fair” is a reason to settle for blah shades for neutals.
I couldn’t believe it, Nancy! I did them on separate days, so I didn’t even realize that I was basically dupiing myself there until I was editing photos and went… wait… what…
When I saw your eye looks, I thought you had accidentally posted the same pic 3x LOL It’s crazy how you’re wearing 5-7 different shadows in each pic, and it all looks like the same brown
‘I hear a lot of people saying this is the “fair girls Pro Palette”, except that I don’t think being “fair” is a reason to settle for blah shades for neutals.’
Exactly! If it had been good, I’d be all over this. Even with the dearth of very fair skin friendly neutral palettes, there are much better options IMHO: UD Gwen Stefani (on sale everywhere for $39 right now), Naked 3, MUFE Nudes You Need, Tarte’s three Tartelette palettes, Tarte Rainforest of the Sea.
Lol
Hi Christine – I heard from another blogger that this isn’t coming to Sephora until July. Do you know if that’s still true? Thanks for the excellent review!
Really have no idea. LORAC would not provide any info to me when I asked – the only info I have is what was on Ulta. I checked LORAC’s Instagram, but I didn’t see anything with respect to dates/availability. Ulta’s listing didn’t seem to say exclusive, so my guess is it will be at other retailers, but I’m not sure.
Lorac is no longer sold at Sephora.
Thank you for reviewing this. I wonder if the Medallion could be a dud? your swatch and pan picture seems different from what I have seen other places.
I have the Lorac Pro Metal, and I really love it. I have been looking for some soft rose shadows, and I wonder if this palette is worth it.
I like the Pro Metal a lot better than this, IMO. I have seen several people mention that Medallion is very chunky – have not seen anyone say it was good yet myself (Reddit/this blog), though!
I think I just saw one swatch that looked a little less chuncky, so I was hoping. Seems like everyone says it applies bad though.
Pro Metal are the best shadows I own.
Ida, you might like the Unzipped Gold, if you don’t have it yet.
Thanks. Yes that is what I am thinking.
I have this palette and my Medallion both swatched, used with Lorac primer and used over a very tacky primer looked exactly like Christine’s. I could not make it work for me. I do like the rest of the palette and found the remainder of the shadows to work well for me with a primer. In my personal experience, Lorac shadows have more often than not kicked up dust in the palette but I don’t get fall out when applying so not sure what that is about. I do tap them off but that’s about it. My complexion is very fair and I have seen others remark that this is a “fair” girls palette. Maybe that is why I like it, I don’t know. I have the Lorac Unzipped palette and love that one also. I don’t do really complicated eye looks and generally use only two or three shadows and mostly with a lot of contrast between the shades so that may be another reason why I like this palette. There are enough very light and very dark shadows for me to accomplish that type of look.
Thanks Deborah. I am very fair too, so this is why I was drawn to this palette. The other PRO look quite dark.
Since I don’t have any of the unzipped ones, those might be a better purchase.
Other than Medallion (pressed glitter in an eyeshadow formula never works for ANY brand…..) this is a lovely palette but it also looks like the Pro and Pro 2 but merged to me?
I could see that! I feel like it’s like Pro 1 and Unzipped together, because it does seem to have a warmer/rosier tint to it.
Wow, this did worse than I thought, even though I could tell it would need primer. I’m going to skip this one and stick to Unzipped and Unzipped Gold. I don’t use the Pro 1 and 2 very much, and they’re better looking than this one.
Primer will definitely help, but I think that the result of some of the shimmery shades have the texture where the shimmer sort of blends away makes them appear more similar to the mattes!
Awww man. I ordered this on the platinum perks thinking it would be awesome. These colors are underwhelming. I foresee a trip to return this as soon as it arrives in the mail.
Aww! 🙁
Such a bummer. I don’t have the 1 or 2, and was hoping to get the 3 but now I’m not so sure. I wanted to experience the joy that is LORAC shadows (or so I hear). I think I’ll probably end up going with the 1 after all.
PS – makeup companies everywhere, STOP PUTTING BLACK IN PALETTES. It’s such a waste of a shade to me! I have enough black shadow to last a lifetime now it seems.
I think 1 is definitely better!
Totally agree with your PS. I’m very pale and never do smoked out/dark looks. I force myself to use black and other dark shades and liners, but I’d love to not have them at all.
Super disappointing! I love Lorac palettes!! But this does come across as very boring.
It doesn’t seem quite as good or as versatile as the prior Pro Palettes!
Christine, I wanted to say thank you so much for including the closeup packaging pictures in all your reviews! They are so helpful when the counterfeits inevitably start coming out. I know Amazon is a legitimate Lorac retailer, but I am still paranoid about that.
Happy to help, Kirsten!
I’ve always wanted to try some Lorac shadows in general, but this palette’s colors just look so boring! I don’t wear that many lighter, neutral colors and I already have enough neutrals that I’d need.
I think their Unzipped palettes are my fave, and I also really liked the Pro Metals palette they came out with (I think that might have been LE).
There’s nothing about this palette that says “BUY ME!”, and that says a lot coming from an eye palette addict like me. Even the few shades that I care about in this palette are dupeable, there are WAY too many light shades (which, surprisingly enough, I have dupes for), and I have what seems like a trillion neutral palettes already. This means that the bar is set high for any additional neutral palettes I’m considering adding to my collection.
I would take the original Pro palette or either of the Unzipped palettes (none of which I currently own) over this any day of the week.
Yeah, LORAC seems to have a penchant for very light shades in their palettes 🙁
Unzipped <3
Surprised by the big fail on Medallion. Wha?? These shades have been done before successfully with hands tied behind back.
It’s like they forgot binder in it, though the sparkle/glitter is a lot chunkier than LORAC has used in the past (to my knowledge) as well.
Wow – lots of those colours really do look like each other – you could really decrease the size of the palette by getting rid of the duplicates. All these colours would work best, I think, on darker complexions as they wouldn’t really show up on someone as fair as me.
I am surprised that Lorac got a few colours, like Medallion, so wrong when they already have the Cinnamon colour from another palette so right. Yes, your eye looks did look very similar even though you used different colours. An easy pass, I think.
They really do! Particularly since some of the shimmery shades don’t retain the full shimmer level when blended.
I really like the 1st and 2nd Lorac Pro Palettes. I wanted to get this, but it just seems like a lot of the same colors.
It does seem to overlap with other LORAC palettes!
Kinda sad to see so many negative comments; I love all my Lorac Pro palettes and even the non-Pro palettes from them. I wanted the Nude Necessities palette but missed out on it so I was excited to see this pale set of neutrals in Pro formula. Can’t wait to get mine:)
Enjoy, Rizzles! I don’t think the comments here are about the previous palettes, just this one, as past quality isn’t always an indicator of future quality 🙂
I will always have a first-love relationship with LORAC Pro Palette! I love the rose theme of this palette and wished it was still available in Canada! It’s such a shame that some of the shades didn’t perform as well but still!
Aww! That is too bad 🙁
this is a boring, lower quality version of UD Naked 3. and it looks like they “streched” the Unzipped Gold to be this collection. the only thing that catches my attention of this palette is the nude packaging, which is cute and resemble the palette’s theme.
i find the original lorac pro is still the winner.
I think the Unzipped palette is a better way to get some rosier neutrals by LORAC!
Hmmm.. I love Lorac and have almost every palette, but I think I might skip on this one (for now at least). Would you recommend the new Anastasia palette over this one?
Oh, yes, unquestionably, the Anastasia palette is better. It is also a lot more versatile.
Thanks for the feedback! Just ordered the Anastasia one!
Upon first look, I expected the Black to be too harsh for the rest of the colors. After looking at your swatch and application, it appears my first thoughts are incorrect. I do have all for of the Naked palettes in addition to several other so don’t need this. I love your application, regardless of grade, as always.
Thank you, Susan!
This one is a hard pass for me, with the colors being warm and it being subpar for LORAC.
You’d think they’d go cooler at this point 😉
Yep, overall I really like the colors. But yeah, Medallion, dafuq LORAC?
That was a huge miss!
This palette is a little too muted for me. The shades I’m drawn to most seem to be similar to some of the shades in the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Palette. I will have to see them both in person, but I’m definitely leaning more towards the ABH palette.
I think the Modern Renaissance palette is a lot more versatile at the very least!
Well you just saved me $44. I have more than enough eyeshadows but I thought, “A palette with all the matte neutrals I need and some interesting metallics! Dream palette!” Yah…I have yet to purchase a Lorac palette and I thought this might be the one I finally get. So close yet so far… The shimmery shades do not seem different enough from each other or very unique. And I really don’t need any of the mattes.
If you want to try LORAC, the Unzipped palettes are my favorites from them 🙂
i am still getting it if i get the chance because it’s lorac and I am a fan. hihi. thanks for the swatches!
Enjoy 🙂
bingo, I was hoping mine was defective but not so. I have been unable to make eye looks that look any different day to day. The shades should flow together well yeah but they should not all blend info a blob of beige. I’m so disappointed in this palette in comparison to my other lorac pros.
Oh no! 🙁
Huh, I mean I have had mine for about a week and I like it, partially because it completes my little lorac pro family. I also saw it as a way of supplementing my lorac unzipped, they work well together. Normally I just read all your reviews, I’m not the commenting type, but my brain had a bit of disjoint when you rated Dark Mocha so high. Dark Mocha is the only one not super working for me, so weird!
I’m happy you like yours, Joan!
I just bought this palette yesterday (before reading your full review). When I saw the first pictures of the eyeshadow shades I died. I LOVE LIGHT SHADES and I am always wishing that I had more or even one whole palette of just light shades. So I think this palette is going to work for me! I have the first pro palette and the second mega pro and I love both of them and reach for them more than any of my other palettes. I am so excited to use this! Thanks, as always, for your honest and in-depth reviews!
Hope you love yours, Lauren!
Hi, I have a question: Does this one have a “scan for tutorials” thing on the back side like the lorac pro 1 and 2?
thank you in advance
Sorry, I throw away all of those extras the day I photograph, so I don’t remember at this point!
