Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Nightingale
Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Eyeshadow Palette ($35.00 for 0.55 oz.) contains 12 eyeshadows in an arrangement of soft, neutral shades with a cooler, grayer tones. The palette is made out of sturdy cardboard and has a large mirror underneath the lid. The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be “ultra-smooth, color-rich, blendable” that is “long-wearing” and “supremely creamy.” My experience with these as hit or miss; some shades were amazing but others were hard to work with. I have no idea how the brand managed to make such a poor beige eyeshadow!

Nocturnal
Nocturnal is a light beige with neutral undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was surprisingly stiff–it was hard to get coverage out of it as nothing would translate on the brush without jabbing at the surface. It wore for six hours on me from what I could tell.

Break Free
Break Free is a bright, white gold with a pearly sheen. It translated to a much lighter, whiter shade with barely any gold/yellow tint to it (and I’m warm-toned!). The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable on the lid and yielded good pigmentation, though not quite opaque. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Hide & Seek
Hide & Seek is a medium taupe with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium, buildable coverage, which was part of why it appeared warmer swatched than in the pan, though I did feel it looked warmer just by dusting product off the surface. The consistency was soft, a little dusty but not prone to sheering out. It lasted for seven and a half hours before fading.

This whole line looks cute but I just don’t think the quality is there yet. I was really surprised to see them carried in Sephora. I feel as its launch has been a little bumpy!
There haven’t been too many real hits from what I’ve tried!
Yikes, Curse of the Cool -Tone Shadows strikes again 🙁
LOL!!
I had seen a couple of reviews on this palette so expected it to be a little hit and miss. I had originally thought to pick it up because I do like the cooler grey/silver shades but wanted to wait for your review since I knew several of the shades were not going to perform well. The price point does not work for me to buy the palette for two shades. I don’t have any dupes that are on your list but I do have a grey palette from Heimish that I think will be close enough. I would like to see in person so hope to see one while I am in Canada next week.
Ah! Only two shades – most certainly not worth it!
Wow, 2 F ratings and on shades you’d think they’d be able to pull off no problem. I’m loving Eye Spy, Darkside and quite a few others, though. It’s a shame they couldn’t do a better job with the 2 shades that garnered F – both are colours that seem easy to get “right”.
I was baffled by a matte beige being horribly stiff!
Too bad this didn’t perform the best, since there are fewer cool neutral palettes out there.
I was so hoping it would do well!
The shimmery shades and aa few of the mattes look lovely! But, those other very serious misses give me qualms about buying this. Besides, I not only have Viseart Chroma ?, but also the equally underperforming UD Naked Smoky?. Almost got myself killed buying that thing and it sure ain’t worth nearly getting hit by lightning for!
Despite generally liking the color story, this is very uneven (indeed, why IS there a bad beige eyeshadow?), dupable, etc. Even if you vote against a palette, there is always a dupe that reminds you to bring something back into rotation. In this case, it’s that kvd Esperanza s/s palette from about 3 years back, with Santeria in it. That’s a fun one. I think much of the appeal for PV is in the packaging. Who thinks this will succeed as a line? I’m not sure.
Wow – this IS a mixed bag of ratings and quality! Overall, I liked the shades chosen for this palette – so that’s a plus. But – the first three shades are redundant – if the brand only put one beige shade in, that would be fine.
There are some epic fails here with shades that should have been easy to do. Other shades, that perhaps were trickier to construct, were fabulous: Darkside, Clutch, Eye Spy and Silver Spoon.
Nice
I like the colours here, but the performance of some is questionable. At that particular price point, it’s a miss for me.
Well, it seems like this is a no…
