NARS Fearless Red Moon Matte Lipstick
NARS Fearless Red Moon Matte Lipstick

NARS Moon Matte Lipstick ($28.00 for 0.09 oz.) is supposed to be a “high-pigmented” lipstick with a matte finish, “improved hydration,” and “lavish wear.” The formula was dense and felt firmer in the tube, but it had a really good glide, as it was rather velvety and creamy going on over the lips. The texture was definitely a little powdery in the way it looked and felt on the lips, but it was soft enough to flex and give as I smiled and moved my lips, and it didn’t catch on little imperfections. The wear was good, ranging from four to seven hours, and the formula was mostly non-drying to slightly drying. I did not detect any scent or taste.

NARS Fearless Red Moon Matte Lipstick ($28.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a medium-dark, burnt red with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was smooth, velvety, and glided on without draggong on the lips. The color really locked on and adhered to lips, but it never felt like it was sucking all moisture out of my lips either (though it was non-drying overall). This shade lasted for over seven hours and left a stain behind. NARS VIP Red (DC, $28.00) is darker, brighter (95% similar). KVD Beauty Project Chimps (LE, $20.00) is cooler (95% similar). NARS Rouge Improbable Moon Matte Lipstick ($28.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark red with cool, bluish undertones and a semi-matte finish. This shade had just a bit of sheen compared to the other shades, though it was still more matte than a satin (hence the semi-matte descriptor!). It had mostly opaque coverage, but you could see the outline of my lip freckle slightly. The consistency was smooth, velvety, and easy to apply, and while it lasted a long time (seven hours) and did not move around easily, it wasn’t uncomfortable. I didn’t find the formula hydrating, but it wasn’t drying either. Chanel Rouge Tentation (169) (P, $38.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS Rebel (LE, $27.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). NARS Rouge Indiscret Moon Matte Lipstick ($28.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a deep red with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had very good color coverage–just shy of being truly full coverage–that had a velvety, smooth, and lightweight consistency that was easy to work with and apply to the lips. The texture didn’t drag or pull on the lips, and the lines looked rather crisp and didn’t have the draggy edge of some matte formulas. On me, it wore for seven hours, left a stain behind, and was just a touch drying after four hours of wear. ColourPop Lost (P, $7.00) is lighter (95% similar). These are really beautiful and each color looks stunning on you. I have so many lipsticks and only one set of lips but I don’t think I will be able to resist a couple of these. Okay, I can’t lie I love them all but in particular I like Fearless Red. That one for sure and maybe a couple others.

Jen Avatar

These appear like you have liquid lipsticks on.. Flat mate with no shine, even with flash photography and everything.. Cool.. Might pick some up.. Are these the only colours available?

The finish on these is AMAZING! They actually have the look of a liquid matte, but your description of how these feel worn makes them stand out for me. Unfortunately, I am more than a little certain that I have dupes up the wazoo for these. My red and nude lipstick addiction has led me to a wall of sorts.
Although, this nude is calling to me…..

Seriously. I’m embarrassed by how many dupes I have for fearless. NARS must think his target market is highly discerning, bec this is the second time in 2 seasons that he has offered shades that were dupes for one another. Although the fall ones were not as close on me as on Christine. Bleeker and VG 1 are much cooler on me, too. But, man I really do not want my epitaph to read: ‘she who dies with the most lipstick wins. Here lies the one who won.’ Still, I never met a NARS red I didn’t love. Gotta bloody stop. Will swatch indecent proposal and not even try on the others. Gotta make my 2 dupe rule ironclad. (Course they have to be 90 or greater). See how I weasel around it? Hopeless.

Absolutely stunning! And very warm shades too, which I’m sure will be flattering on my skintone. I don’t think I’ll do well with matte formulas, sadly, and this looks quite drying.

Hopelessly smitten. Trying to resist. These are all so classic. With the soft gray eye from this collection, the look is a stunner. Chic, yet simple, bright, and cheerful. I never knew until today that Shiseido was the parent co for Nars. And Cle. And lots of others.

Do you know where I could find the ingredients list? I’m staying away from lanolin and Nars annoyingly never publish ingredients lists on ther website…

Fearless Red and Rouge Indiscret are my faves of the four (at least, swatched on you Christine). I’ll have to swatch ALL of them at the counter. Interesting that Infatuated Red is a dupe of Rouge Indiscret – I have two of the Infatuated Red because it’s such a perfect shade of garnet red to me (and the pencils go on so easy). At least these lippies would give me some options as far as the finish (and may even last longer than the pencils what with all the sharpening). Hmm… more thinking to do about this line…Thanks for the swatches Christine!

Ok I’m in love and it’s been a while since I’ve bought a lipstick.

Christine – did you say if these were going to be available at Sephora or not?
