Makeup Geek Full Spectrum Eyeliners Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 2)
Makeup Geek Cobalt Full Spectrum Eyeliner
Makeup Geek Full Spectrum Eyeliner ($9.00 for 0.04 oz.) is supposed to be an “ultra creamy” and “ultra pigmented.” They have a smoother, more waxy consistency, so they skim across the skin without tugging or dragging, but the pigmentation varies a lot from shade to shade, though it fell between semi-sheer to semi-opaque in one stroke. They weren’t particularly buildable, as they seemed to push the color around rather than really gradually build it up. They are really, really soft, so use less pressure than you think or else chunks of the eyeliner will break off. They wore between six and seven hours on me before migrating. Their biggest upside is comfort; very creamy and soft, but the downside is weaker pigmentation and wear. As an aside, the price point seems a little high for the brand, given that eyeliners and eyeshadows are (usually) similarly priced, but these are 50% more expensive than the eyeshadows.
Makeup Geek Cobalt Full Spectrum Eyeliner ($9.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark periwinkle blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer coverage in one pass, which was buildable to semi-opaque (somewhat uneven) coverage after going back and forth multiple times. There was a very faded quality about it once applied to the skin. It lasted for six hours on me. Lethal Cosmetics Harmony (P, $15.50) is darker (90% similar). NARS Most Wanted (LE, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Skinny Dip (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Royal Wink (LE, $16.00) is darker (85% similar). Makeup Geek Mint Full Spectrum Eyeliner ($9.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a light-medium, mint green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff in one stroke, which was buildable. The color applied evenly and smoothly on the lash line without tugging. This shade wore for seven hours before fading noticeably. Stila Turquoise (P, $22.00) is brighter (95% similar). Haus Labs Sage Matte (P, $22.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC The Last Word (P, $23.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Makeup Geek Ocean Full Spectrum Eyeliner ($9.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark, bluish teal with a pearly sheen. It was the only shade with a pearly finish in the range. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in one stroke, which was hard to layer/build as it would thicken over some areas and pull color away in others, leaving behind an uneven result. The color seeped into the creases underneath my eyes (like it bled!) after six hours of wear. MAC New Marine (P, $17.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Tarina Tarantino Spark of Envy (DC, $15.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Make Up For Ever I32 Iridescent Lagoon Green (P, $21.00) is darker (95% similar). Makeup Geek Royal Full Spectrum Eyeliner ($9.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a subdued, medium-dark purple with subtle, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff in one stroke, which was hard to layer/build-up as it tended to look uneven as the creamier consistency would pull the initial layer at times. This shade lasted for six hours. MAC Image Conscious (P, $17.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Plushie (P, $20.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Make Up For Ever M80 Matte Plum (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer, better quality (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

What the *#$%^#*!!!!! Ulta is already sold out of the UD Alice lipsticks within days. I ran to Sephora site, dumped Mad Hatter and Time in my basket, along with a load of freebies and reward items, and it went out of stock before I could hit purchase!!! C’mon, this is ridiculous!!! This just launched. Ok, sorry, I had to unload my frustrations. But I was really hoping these MUG eyeliners would score well, as the colors are so unique and interesting, but I don’t think these will hold up well on my oily lids. Will check out your dupe list instead
I don’t know if they really sold out or if they pulled them from their site, because they were just launched – hardly any loves on Sephora yet (like 58!) when I posted it as an alert two hours ago. The pages are totally dead, though they show up if you look at UD’s product page – it is odd that they would have killed the page, even if it was OOS.
Hmm, I wonder if Sephora posted the product too early, then pulled it….anyways, I know sometimes products will launch early, so will continue stalking the internet for these
I know they launch in the stores on Thursday, so maybe they’ll be on the website then. I haven’t been able to get my hands on Alice and called every Ulta in my vicinity as well as Sephora. The Ultas are all sold out, but Sephora told me they don’t launch until the 5th. So, I would try tomorrow morning!
Yes, I have May 5th marked on my calendar! Thanks, and hope you get your hands on them as well
Oh man, that really sucks, Katherine! Although I will say that when I went to Ulta on Friday, even though the Alice display hadn’t been up long, I freaked out when I saw that out of all the shades, 2 that I wanted most only had ONE left of each, so heck yeah, I scooped them both up immediately! Only 3 Mad Hatters left, but Iracebeth and Mirana were fully stocked.
Nancy, good for you!! I remember your UD Spectrum debacle, would hate to see that repeat with the Alice lippies. I’m sure with enough stalking, I will find them, but this is kind of frustrating, sure hope UD has enough to go around. If not, I guess I can find dupes of Mad Hatter and Time among the 100 shades they are launching, but it would be cool to have one with the pretty Alice packaging.
Oh, no! I’m so sorry Katherine. I hope you’ll be able to find them.
I think with enough stalking of the Internet and various launch dates, I will find them , but looks like the lippies are super popular. I sure hope UD has enough stock for the demand !
I do love the look of Ocean but shame it’s not better performing, especially for the price point!
I agree, Claire 🙁 It could be a lot better.
Check out Urban Decay Junkie. It might be a bit more teal, but it’s amazing. One of the smoothest, most pigmented liners I’ve ever owned.
Naw, I’m good here using Sephora Contour pencils, Colourpop, and Nyx Slide-on liners. These MUG liners look very weak in the color saturation and pigment department. I would expect better at $9 a pop, considering that all the ones I mentioned are $5-10, and work fantastically!
I hear ya, Nancy! Sephora has be sooo covered at this price point.
I really wanted Ocean to be better!
Me too, Erin!
The colors are so pretty, it makes me sad that the quality isn’t better.
Same here, Rachel 🙁
I don’t really like these MUG offerings – the ratings are just not good enough. Besides, once you have L’Oreal’s True Teal you don’t need another teal because that is the best.
Ocean is the one that interested me too but considering these are products I have to order without seeing them for myself, even if it rated higher, it would be out the question for me. I too am someone really happy with the Sephora liners so I don’t have to “pine” for that colour, especially as it has such a poor rating.
Too bad Ocean doesn’t perform better, it’s beautiful…
Fun fact: my eyeliners came in today, woot!
Yay!
Well, I guess I am super happy to have great dupes of Cobalt, Mint and Ocean. I will stick with my Stila/Urban Decay liners for now! Thanks for a great review though! I love that you are so thorough and honest with your reviews. You really are my go-to reviewer when I am looking at new products.
“Ocean” so wants to be Urban Decay’s magical “Junkie” liner. But fail!
