Make Up For Ever 15 Artist Shadow Palette
Make Up For Ever Holiday 2015 15 Artist Shadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.90 oz.) includes fifteen of the brand’s Artist Shadows (all of which are permanent, so you can always purchase them individually or repurchase if you ever finish one). Each shade is 0.06 oz., whereas full-size is 0.08 oz., which makes the palette contain $236.25 worth of eyeshadows. Not only is a tremendous value for anyone who’s wanted to acquire more (or try for the first time) the Artist Shadows, but the palette is of excellent quality. Only two of the fifteen shades were under-performing, and only one of those two is a real miss to me. The only thing that puzzles me is that Make Up For Ever doesn’t include their matte formula in their palettes, because I think it’s quite good (overall) and certainly well-worth including for more versatility and dimension in their palettes–it is even more puzzling given that they’re a pro/artistry-driven brand, where mattes are often a go-to! Otherwise, I highly recommend and is definitely one of the best palettes I’ve tried all year.

This is a dream palette 🙂 how gorgeous and insanely beautiful the shades are 😀 😀
It is a gorgeous one!
Lagoon and Petrol Blue, uh-woooooow! (says the girl who doesn’t easily get excited over blues)
What a fantastic palette. I am a big fan of the Artist Shadow formula so I was pretty sure this would be good 🙂
I’m so glad the quality is pretty consistent between palettes + individuals!
I love the eye look! I’m kinda bummed about Petrol Blue! The fact that it was in this palette tipped me over the edge to buy this palette since I already have a lot of the shades! I haven’t unboxed mine yet because I was waiting for you to review. I’m certainly keeping it. Christine, what specifically is different between Petrol in the permanent line and this one?
The one in the permanent line is just a little more pigmented and denser, but Petrol Blue in the permanent version I have isn’t 100% perfect either. I don’t think you’d really notice the difference in regular application, as it is darker shade and you’d likely apply a little less and build-up!
Ok,thanks for the detail! Yeah, that’s a shade I’ll use in small amounts and build up like you said. Its been on my Wish list forever! I’ll use primer too because of the staining I get with many mufe shadows. So, I’m Sure that will make it pretty much good. Excellent review:)
I love the purple blush on you, just beautiful.
Thanks, Ginny!
I *think* the only one I already have is Fig. And it is basically my favorite eye shadow ever, so having a backup will not kill me. Probably going to pull the trigger on this sometime this week.
Also, I had never realized that the MUFE palettes don’t have any mattes, and now that you have pointed it out it is SO WEIRD.
IT IS! I mean… even one or two? C’mon!
I love stains though, but they should maybe put out a satin/matte palette at some point. lol
If MUFE came out with a satin/matte palette I’d be first in line to get it, no questions asked!
That’s actually the main reason I’ve never bought any of their palettes despite the excellent reviews. This one might just change my mind. 🙂
Unfortunately, the lack of mattes is a deal-breaker for me with this palette. Maybe I’m just getting overly fussy in my old age. But if I know me like I think I do, the first time I had to reach for another shadow or open up another palette to complete a look I wanted, I’d just mentally kick myself for having spent the sixty smackers for this one in the first place. Frustrating!
Christine, would you know if these shades have been included in previous MUFE palettes? I’m eyeing this so much but a couple of the shades look familiar to me!
Lagoon Blue, Pinky Beige, Fig, and Snow are repeats from last year’s, but I think the rest are different! You have Pearl and Onyx from #1 Artist but I don’t think there are repeats from #2.
Stunning! So many of these shades were on my “to get” list. This palette is a must-have.
Awesome! 😀
Mine arrived today. It’s so perfect. Love, love, love, love it!!!!!!
This looks amazing! I think it has too many light shades for me personally though.
Oh, drats!
This is so pretty…but I would love it more if it had just a couple of matte shades. It’s still on my wish list. Will you be reviewing the bobbi brown university eye palette?
Sorry, I don’t have that!
Wow, great to see such pigmented blues and purples. See, other companies? It CAN be done!! Love the looks you created.
True! Though for that purple, it is a blush (not eye safe here in the U.S.), so there’s that. Kind of cheating? lol!
Is there a way to check which are not eye safe? I thought they were all eye shadows?
I believe Sephora lists them on the site.
Everyone I know raves about the MUFE formula, and as someone who’s never tried it, I think this going on my must buy list. I also like that their palettes seem to perform almost, or just as well as the individual pans. I hate it when brands release palettes that contain sub-par formulas
Their palettes are really consistent to the permanent line–the shades that aren’t winners here are shades that aren’t 100% perfect in full-size either!
A limited edition eye palette that I like AND that’s got an A mark! Must buy, shame it’s not come to the UK yet, I’ve already done a big order from Sephora *sobs*! Never mind, I’ll wait until either it comes here or do another order next month at Sephora lol.
lol!
OH-EM-JEEEEE!! This is such a gorgeous palette <3 It would be a match made in heaven with my naked 3 palette 🙂 I really wish we could get MUFE in the UK (well other than only online in Debenhams lol!) because loads of there products look awesome! Side note – can I just say how lovely the eye look was that you did Christine. The colours really suit your skin tone and girl you are rocking that purple blush! You can totally make everything look good, I'm extremely jealous lol! (and when I mean jealous I mean envious of course 🙂 Thanks for an awesome review as usual xxx
Thank you so much, Caitlin! 🙂
I am sooo glad that I took the chance on this one and ordered it this past Saturday even before seeing your review!!! One disclaimer for myself, I will be using that Electric Purple on my lids, especially in conjunction with Electric Blue & Lagoon Blue! ?
Woohoo!! 🙂
The palette is a steal but I already have the 2014 Artist’s Palette and I very rarely wear bright colors.
Aww! Maybe next palette release then!
Oh man, between UD Naked and UD Spectrum, I have enough dupes in my stash! Now I see why UD launched UD Spectrum early, they didn’t want to run into competition with this MUFE palette! But I have no regrets buying UD Spectrum –quality is excellent and it has a bigger shade range, only wish UD and MUFE had included some mattes. Wish that purple was a shadow, not a blush, but people have used as shadow with no issues, glad this kit got a great score
Both are nice palettes!
I love it and already have it, but I do wish they included a couple of mattes. I’d would have loved to see a matte transition shade at the very least.
I could definitely see one or two mattes added without going too heavy on mattes!
The question for me is: with 198 shades available to create a palette, why do they reuse shades from last holiday’s palette? Four of them, if I’m not mistaken. Total bummer, because I would have snapped this up. The size of the shadows and the packaging is better than last year, too!
I’m guessing they try to pick shades that sell better individually paired with a few that might under-sell (but they really think are awesome).
Yaaassss! MUFE does it again!
They did!
I picked this up last week and while I do love it, the lack of mattes is really annoying. I’m not big on all shimmer looks so I always have to pull out this palette with another to grab a matte shade for the crease. The shadows are really nice and the palette itself is an excellent value so I don’t want to be a whiner but really, two matte shades wouldn’t have killed them 😉
Awww!
I’m not usually one for teal eyeshadow, but Lagoon Blue is spectacular. Overall this palette is a skip for me (too similar to shades I already own) but lagoon blue is definitely going on my wishlist!
It’s such a luscious teal!
You know what, the fact that they don’t include mattes doesn’t bother me , as I generally don’t like the texture of mattes ( I prefer satins) anyway. I could see how this palette would turn some people off though. I am impressed by the fact that I have both artist palettes and the mini one that came out last year and there are very few repeats. I also bought a full size of Fig. I cannot wait to get this palette.
I do want them to put something other than that shimmery beige shade and the black in their palettes though. Just saying lol
Can’t wait for you to get yours, Jaz!
I love that petrol blue.
It’s a stunner!
It looks like a fantastic palette in terms of quality, yet I’m not very inspired by the color combinations here. It seems to happen with almost all MUFE palettes… I’ll have to get the singles to try the formula I guess! Too bad because the value here is amazing.
Hopefully you can try the singles sometime!
I bought this the second you posted it was for sale a while back! I’ve been so eager to try the new artist shadow formula because of your rave reviews. Well, I’m in love. They stay put without fallout (I use MAC primer) for 12 or so hours on me. This MUFE palette was the perfect holiday splurge for me. I’ve used all the colors so far except the blues, which I’m sure I will wear out this weekend. I need to try using the purple as a blush, it looks so beautiful on you!!
It’s okay for me that they didn’t have mattes, but I would absolutely LOVE it if MUFE released an all matte palette. To make a look for work, I used either entirely this palette, or used my Tarte Tartelette palette for a crease or base matte color (which is a bit so-so — it can crease towards the end of the day on my oily lids).
The formula is soooooo good! And these are a great size and value, so I’m happy you’re enjoying it, Kira 🙂
Only Sephora carries this palette? It looks fantastic but I’d have to travel to USA to get it ?
MUFE is exclusive to Sephora here in the U.S.
Wonderful review! You are so fast Kristine!
You know a product is good when the lowest out of 15 shades is a B-. Who else can claim that? And I think that shade still looks pretty good. I just wish there was more variation in the highlight shades. I wish they included one of the “Crystalline” Diamond shades.
Does anyone have experience using the shadows in unconventional ways such as using a shade like Pearl as a highlighter? It looks similar to highlighter shades I have seen before.
Isn’t there a Sephora sale coming up or is that after Christmas? I want to get the most bang for my buck.
So true, especially with as many as 15? It’s hard to get them consistently good.
There is a Sephora sale typically held in November but no dates have been revealed yet, and they’ll probably keep that under wraps for as long as possible, lol.
i love the formula but this kinda disappointed me. This is a great value palette but i dont understand the need for 3 blue shades. They could have included a nice Holiday green and some other warm shades. Also, didnt get why there are so many lighter colors. Passing on this, wish they came out with palette-2 .
Sorry to hear you didn’t like it!
This palette is the bomb! I bought it the day it was released online and it is seriously amazing. I feel like any eyeshadow that MUFE makes is superior to all others I’ve tried, including Viseart!
The Artist formula is fab!
They onlt shades I had a problem with was S228 Petrol Blue and a tiny bit with S102 Onyx but both can be forgiven due to the nature of the pigments. The pigment used in Petrol Blue is indigo and that class of shade is naturally sheer and more of a dye.
It’s nice to get the quality over all in a palette when you know that MUFE has put the time into their permanent shades being transferred over into this not so much smaller pans. <3 Even order it right away because the Artist Shadows are all a must have for me.
Good to know! Thank you for sharing 🙂
the swatches are so pretty!!!!!!!! lagoon, electric purple and petrol blue !!!!!!! … i wish they would include their matte shades more often in palettes too but this is a really cute one indeed! …
They’re so rich!
If MUFE put out an all-matte palette of artist shadows, I’d snap it up in a heartbeat! There are so few really great matte shadow formulas out there, it’s a shame they don’t showcase theirs.
Maybe one day!
If it ever makes its way across the pond, I might get this one. I like most of it!
Fingers crossed it hits the UK!
I got this palette and am having a bit of trouble with it. The shadows are soo dense I am not sure which brushes to use. Any suggestions? I was confused by the lack of mattes as well! Maybe they are made of moon dust or something!
I use MAC 239s, but the 242 would also work 🙂
It is a fantastic palette, with a great rating – thank goodness. BUT it still has one too many blues and no greens. There really isn’t a proper grey colour either. As I am not a matte fan – this is great for me, but for those who love a matte or two or three – this would be, perhaps, a deal breaker for them.
Still, it is an incredibly great palette.
It is a lovely palette!
Some mattes would have been nice but this is still a really solid palette. I love so many of the colors and it’s such a great value. Smh. I really don’t know which or how many of these holiday palettes to haul lol
It’s a great palette!
Grr. I haven’t tried mufe eye-shadow but I feel like I have dupes of everything and I can’t make myself buy something I have dupes off. It’s good value but… I guess I’m going to wait another year again (I can’t make myself want vol 1 or 2 either). I had no idea having such good impulse control is such a pain. Lol.
Wow, you are very disciplined, LOL! I have the whole line in full size, but I HAVE to have these palettes. I always want to verify quality is the same across (for readers), but I’m 90% sure I’d still buy the palettes, haha.
I really didn’t want to like this one because I’m trying to be thrifty but I really like it. I can see me using all the shades with perhaps the exception of the amber shade, but I’m sure I can find a way to work with it. It’s a pretty shade but I’m not sure how it will look on cool skin!
Oh, wow! Almost all the shades? That’s pretty good!
I have several of these shades from other palettes, but I may still get this because I love the formula of make up for ever shadows. I do wish they wouldn’t repeat so many shades in their palettes when their shade range is so vast!
I totally understand!
I absolutely adore this palette, I grabbed the second I saw it was at my local sephora. I do wonder why mufe doesn’t put matte shadows in their palettes but regardless you can make several looks with what’s in this baby alone. Mufe shadows have became my absolute favorite and I really need to keep myself calm and not buy all of them.
It is odd! I think the palette could easily have two, lol!
Ooh, I really want this palette and can envision using every one of the colours in it!
Yayyy!
Very excited about this palette because I would get the chance to try the MUFE shadows for the first time. However, its just too cool toned for me to buy at the moment because I would have to bring in quite a few warm tones to create a look on me. (also too many light shades but i’d still buy it if they were warmer)
Oh, bummer! 🙁
I love this palette, but does it indicate anywhere that Electric Purple is eye safe? The colour is beautiful but I could never get away with wearing it as a blusher.
That’s why it is labeled as a blush 🙂
I recently made a three shade palette at Sephora with these, and I absolutely LOVE the shadows but finding the ones I wanted in the display was so confusing. Does anyone else have this problem? Am I missing the pattern?
I guess that will make purchasing this palette even easier since I don’t have to hunt around for all the shades I want 😉
The letter is for the finish, and then I think the numbers are somewhat coordinated (like 500s are mostly neutrals, I think).
That makes sense! My biggest problem was seeing the shadow in the display, then trying to find the corresponding shade in the stock behind it. Maybe since I was there later in the day, customers misplaced the shades but it took me forever to find the shades I had picked out.
I’m kinda bummed out a little bit…
Aren’t those the same colors they released last year in that little “suitcase” that also had the artist liner?
It’s a nice palette, but I feel like we’ve seen these colors in the same type of MUFE packaging before.
I’m saaaaaaaaaad…. I wanted new eyeshadows, especially since they are my fav of any brand!
Lagoon Blue, Pinky Beige, Fig, and Snow are repeats from last year’s, but I think the rest are different! You have Pearl and Onyx from #1 Artist but I don’t think there are repeats from #2.
Gorgeous palette.. definitely gonna pick up.. But I feel the shades are quite similar to those of Urban decay naked palettes except the blue ones …
They’re definitely not super unique!
Omg, this was a feast for my eyes!
Haha!
oh my gosh, i’ve been waiting for you to review this palette!
would you prefer this or the KVD mi vida loca remix palette? i’m a neutral girl trying to get into using color and i’m totally split between these two…
I prefer this, but I like more satin/shimmer shadees vs. mattes and find these easier to use.
Thank you so much for this! Can’t wait to buy it! PS I love that you take the time to tell us the value.
My pleasure, Mayra!
Wow! What a great palette! I really like your color combination; it is work appropriate but has a little pizazz! Thanks Christine.
Thanks, Janelle!
I love a neutral + a splash of color sort of palette. They are my favorite kind of palette. However the neutrals in this one are not my favorite selections of color with the exception of that GORGEOUS golden bronze. They are too cool tone for me. However, the blues. I am drooling.
Decision Decisions
It’s a really gorgeous palette!
I saw it online and I had to have it, so I bought it the other night. It’s gorgeous. I love how there are enough neutrals to do more wearable, work appropriate looks, but some lovely, bright, unexpected colours to play around with as well! I’m in love!
So happy to hear it, Morgan! xo
Well I did want this palette until I saw I had 6/15 shades from it. I really wish MUFE would use different colours in their palettes! They have so many nice ones 🙁
They do have such a huge range that they don’t need to repeat quite yet, lol!
Beautiful palette… sadly I have 7 of the shades due to previous collections… I can’t justify purchasing this palette ??… the struggle lol
lol!
If I hadn’t just purchased Urban Decay’s spectrum palette I would get this one! Very pretty colors and pigmented looking swatches. MUFE makes great products!
They do!
Is that Mauve and turquoise a repeat shade from the other artist palette – the 9- shade palette that came out earlier this year?
Lagoon Blue, Pinky Beige, Fig, and Snow are repeats from last year’s, but I think the rest are different! You have Pearl and Onyx from #1 Artist but I don’t think there are repeats from #2.
No, they’re different ones, I have the 9-shade palette you’re referring to and this new one.
I got this palette this week — love MUFE shadows and just couldn’t wait for Sephora’s sale — and am loving it, finding it more versatile than I first thought it would be, because S522 Pinky Nude works really well as a base shade for me, and S114 Pearl Gray works well as a transition shade (I do a lot of cool eyeshadow looks and am always looking for good gray transition shades). I’m finding that MUFE satins work very nicely for base and transition shades for me, diffusing the texture on my 59-year-old eyelids (whereas some mattes actually emphasize said texture). I also like S502 White Sand for a base and S556 Taupe Gray for a transition shade. I like the mix of neutrals and colors, don’t even mind that I already have ME216 Electric Blue, because it’s an all-time favorite eyeshadow shade of mine. I only wish the pans were magnetic and popped out easily, so that I could mix and match with my other MUFE shadows in my custom palettes!
Woohoo!! I’m so happy to hear you’re loving it, Fran. It is also great to know it is working on your eyelids without emphasizing!
MUFE shadows are my absolute favorites now, very few can compete with them for me.
I just got this palette about a week ago from Sephora. I must tell you, the one complaint I have is the shadows quickly develop this hard filmy layer on the top of them. I understand this is normal due to the “type” of shadows they are. I used clean brushes, and my eyes are not oily at all. So I have no idea why this happened so quick. Its annoying to say the least.
Do you ever go back with your brush more than once? I do myself, but I haven’t noticed an issue with the pans hardening – I think I’ve only seen it on a handful of shades (over all the ones I have), though.
I talked about this with a MUFE MUA at a MUFE store. What’s actually happening is that the shadow is getting packed down a bit (since it’s kind of a gel-powder hybrid). Once a shadow got that way, I had a hard time picking it up with my brush, so she showed me how to ‘push’ my brush into the shadow instead of ‘pulling’ it across the surface of the shadow like I normally would. Problem solved, and now MUFE shadows are my absolute favorites of all time, since I love vibrant colors.
I need your advice. I got this one last week and although it’s beautiful when I actually started using it I have had the hardest time blending the shadows and getting proper pigmentation. I don’t know why because everyone is raving and I’m just feeling kinda eh about it. I was going to return it and go get the lorac mega pro 2 but I don’t know if I’m just not working with it the right way. Any tips? Do you think the mega pro 2 is better?
Oh no! I have heard a couple of readers mention that either they and/or current reviews on Sephora turned really negative? As if there was a change in batches? I am not sure. I don’t like LORAC eyeshadows that much in the Pro formula (I find them very powdery/dusty).
