Huda Beauty Sapphire Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Sapphire
Huda Beauty Sapphire Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette ($27.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a new, limited edition set of shimmers and mattes with a blue theme. If you’re someone who tends to use a dampened brush, fingertips, or a glitter glue with their shimmers and doesn’t mind using an eyeshadow primer, I expect that the more original color scheme/types of shades may make it workable. I do think that it is a fussy palette and needs some patience/specific techniques and tools to work with. The mattes were dustier and not as pigmented as anticipated, while a few of the shimmers had less desirable textures that made them a challenge to use.

Sapphire #1
Sapphire #1 is a deep blue with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had the type of matte finish more prone to absorbing natural oils on the skin, so it looked more “melted” and less flat-matte in finish. As a result, it didn’t blend out as easily along the edges, so some may find dusting translucent powder over the lids/primer may make it easier to work with it. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented with a fairly soft, smooth texture that was a little powdery in the pan. It wore well for eight and a half hours and left a bit of a stain behind.

Sapphire #2
Sapphire #2 is a light-medium, purplish blue with cool undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good color coverage paired with a denser, more cream-like texture that was stiffer to work with and applied best using a flat, synthetic brush and a slight jabbing motion on the surface of the product. I patted and pressed the color into place for best results, which then went on fairly evenly. It lasted well for eight hours on me before creasing faintly.

Sapphire #3
Sapphire #3 is a medium teal with subtle, cool undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was smooth to the touch, dense and cream-like, but it wasn’t as stiff/thick, so I found easier to work with and to apply to my lid. It had nearly opaque pigemtnation in a single layer that adhered well to my lid without fallout. This shade stayed on well for eight hours on me.

Sapphire #4
Sapphire #4 is a medium, bluish-teal with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff paired with a powdery, thinner consistency that really needed an eyeshadow primer to perform decently. It worked diffuse and blend out the other mattes in the palette without a primer, as the pigmentation wasn’t an issue. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Sapphire #5
Sapphire #5 is a blackened, navy blue base with l ighter blue sparkle. The consistency was denser, more cream-like to the touch, but stiff and on the thicker side , which made it harder to work with unless one used fingertips. It applied unevenly with a brush, and I only found it workable with a brush if I dampened it first. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that lasted for eight hours but had little fallout over time.

Sapphire #6
Sapphire #6 is a light, silvery base with multi-colored micro-glitter strewn throughout. This was a hard color to describe as it ended up being sheer with a grittier consistency that was a real challenge to work with. I tried using it with a fingertip as well as a dampened brush, and I had the best results using a flat, synthetic brush and pressing two to three layers to an area. I’d recommend using a glitter adhesive, though, and it should come out quite complex–almost makes it worth all the effort and fallout. On me, it stayed on well for eight hours but had some fallout over time.

Sapphire #7
Sapphire #7 is a light, chartreuse green with strong, warm yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, dusty consistency that was thinner and harder to blend out as it had a tendency to stick to the skin (but then not want to move). It lasted nicely on me for seven and a half hours.

Sapphire #8
Sapphire #8 is a medium, cobalt blue with strong, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. The texture was rather powdery, and while it was mostly powdery in the pan, there was some fallout when working with it as well. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was buildable and blendable, but I’d highly recommend doing eyes first if you’re going for full coverage without a primer to clean-up the fallout afterward. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Sapphire #9
Sapphire #9 is a bright, light-medium blue with subtle, cool undertones and a metallic sheen. It had opaque pigmentation with a denser, lightly creamy texture that was thicker but not too stiff, so it wasn’t too difficult to pick up with a brush and apply to my lids for even, opaque coverage. It stayed on well for eight hours on me before creasing faintly.

This will be a much easier skip for me than many other Huda Beauty mini palettes. Thankfully, I am not a huge fan of cooler shades of blue on myself, plus, I do have similar enough shades for the few I do love in this one!
This palette is so gorgeous to look at, but blue just doesn’t work on me. And the rating is lackluster. So it’s an easy pass.
Your eye make up looks absolutely stunning, thank you for the review- I’ve not the patience to purchase this but really beautiful colours ?
Thank you, Sue! 🙂
This palette is so 80’s it should come with leg warmers.
ROFL!
I love the color scheme, but the mattes do look troublesome. I think I’ll skip unless it goes on clearance at some point.
This palette is a bit of a disappointment. Sapphire 6 is so poor that it’s hard to tell the exact shade. And not a true good navy shade in there either. Too many of the shades are hard to work with as well. The inclusion of the bright yellow shade is a mystery to me, as a blue eyeshadow lover, I would never really use this shade at all.
l have all of the Precious Obsessions palettes. Is it me or do the shimmery shadows tend to flake off while still in the pan? Is that even normal?
Shades like #6 can be looser and kick up more product in the pan, but a lot of the shimmers are very dense for me so they don’t have any excess!
I was soo smitten with the metallic shades in this palette but I knew something was off with some of the shades and the matte shades are sheer…. I was still so tempted.
Interesting how most of the dupes for Sapphire have pretty low ratings (Cs, Ds, and Fs). Jaclyn’s Jada, similar but not quite a dupe, has an F. Must be a hard shade to get right.
Wearing this now and took it when I traveled. Just wished the yellow was more pigmented but the blues look pretty and last all day. I used a glitter primer under Sapphire on the middle lid. Added Urban Decay’s Overdrive liner on my lower lid and enjoyed the look.
Happy to hear it, Denise! Did you use any other base/primer for the other shades?
All those palettes had me so worked up ! I hve enough of tame neutrals palettes, these were like a breath of fresh air.
But the quality doesn’t seem in paar with the usual formula of the other obsession palettes. At least I will save money thanks to you !
Totally concur with Christine. I had given it slight higher marks, but after wear time (not more than 3-4 hours for me) C+ it accurate. I was disappointed because the color scheme is really beautiful and even each color is unique for my collection and goes well together. (or with other palettes I have).
The biggest disappointment for me with this palette was that there were so many teals! There are so many good teals out there, but I wanted a TRUE blue palette. When was the last time someone put out a great powder blue?
I’m such a sucker for shades like #5, but other than that this palette is a little bit of a miss for me.
