Defiance is a deep, navy blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was semi-opaque to opaque when applied dry and more opaque applied with a wet brush. I did find that it applied better and worse depending on the attempt, but it was a very dense, firm shade that stuck to my skin like glue, which is where the advance to "blend carefully" must come into play if one tries to use this as a typical eyeshadow. While it was described as a "sheer matte," it wasn't sheer dry or wet. To get the most even coverage, it should be used with a dampened brush, but I would stick to using it as eyeliner as it became extremely difficult to blend once I used any water with it. I was able to diffuse the edges decently when I used it dry on my lid, but it did take extra time. It wore well for nine hours on me and stained faintly. I think if you intended to use this as an eyeliner, it will work well for that purpose, but if you wanted a navy blue you could use and blend out without much effort, you'll be disappointed.
