Glaminatrix Nocturnal Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Nocturnal
Glaminatrix Nocturnal 12-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($55.00 for 0 oz.) was originally available as an pre-made eyeshadow palette but is now only available by purchasing the shades individually. Worth noting, a lot of folks had issues with the shimmery shades breaking (part of why the palette was discontinued in its original form), even though the brand seemed to be trying to take care of everyone who had issues (refunds, replacements, and so on).
Go figure that mine, which was part of the early batches, arrived intact! I feel like I’m more often the recipient of broken powders, LOL! The shimmers are not yet available as singles but are coming soon, and the brand has made adjustments to the press/formulas of the shimmers to try to prevent breakage during shipping.
The shimmers have a really intense, shiny finish that I know some will love them, but they take more effort and perform best with a tacky base. The mattes are lovely and consistent with the brand’s past matte formula.
Nocturnal
PPermanent. $56.00.
Milky Way
Milky Way has more of a transparent base with shifting micro-sparkle that went from pink to green to aqua with a shiny, metallic finish.
- Sheer coverage
- More loosely-pressed, not as emollient as it needed to be
- Had some fallout, best applied over a tacky base
- Moderate wear (8 hours with fallout)

The brand doesn't have any real specific claims on their eyeshadows, but the swatches they showcase show their line of eyeshadows to be pigmented. The exception would be shades classified as "Duochrome Toppers," which have a translucent base, though they are packed with shimmer and tend to show up more opaque as a result (both my in experience as well as in their swatches).
The brand has three primary finishes: matte, foiled, and duochrome topper. The matte eyeshadows, which sometimes are classified as matte pressed pigments, are very pigmented, silky-smooth, and blendable, but they are incredibly powdery in the pan. I was surprised that I didn't get much fallout during application, but there was a lot of excess powder kicked up in nearly every matte shade I tested out even when I tried to use a light touch. I found that the ultra finely-milled formula tended to adhere well to bare skin and was more forgiving of dryness than the average matte eyeshadow.
The foiled eyeshadows are high-shine with soft, more loosely-pressed textures (on the whole) that picked up readily with a dry brush, had good adhesion, and had minimal to light fallout, depending on the shade. The shades were higher shimmer seemed more loosely-pressed, while the shades that yielded more of a metallic sheen/pearly sheen were more firmly-pressed (in comparison).
The duochrome toppers are similar to the foiled eyeshadows, but they had higher sparkle/shimmer in them with a translucent base, so the more it was sheered out, the more translucent it appeared. If one picked up and patted it onto the lid, the effect was fairly pigmented. I had a little bit of fallout during application using this finish dry, so I'd recommend using them with a fingertip or a dampened brush for application.
Overall, the formulas are impressive across the board with only a few shades that were under-performing--and they typically were shades that tend to be harder to get perfect (e.g. matte purple). I enjoyed working with the eyeshadows and putting together looks, as they were easy to work with, delivered on pigmentation and blendability, and wore between eight and nine hours on bare skin.

Formula Overview
$7.30/0.064 oz. - $114.06 Per Ounce

Y’know what? This puts me in mind of *early* Pat McGrath type shades! At first, I was like: “is this some sort of surprise Mother Pat palette?”
Too bad that Glaminatrix was having breakage issues with this palette. Otherwise, I would have definitely been game for this stunner!
When I saw the photo at the top of the page, I thought “Oh, Christine has done another palette!” – this has the look of the lovely palettes you’ve done but looking at the shades more closely, your palettes (even the 2 I don’t have) seem a whole lot more appealing than this one!
Glaminatrix is so my vibe, haha! They do some really interesting color stories 🙂
I bought the last batch: the shimmer shades were packaged separately and shipped as singles. Despite that, two shades arrived completely shuttered. I received a 9USD refund. I think they’ll cost more when they’ll be sold.
I haven’t used the palette yet because of the disappointment
What an interesting palette and I could see its appeal to many. I’m pleased that the brand fixed up all those who had problems with their original palette, as some formulas and finishes really don’t travel well.
I guess its a learning experience for them and I’m sure the next palette won’t have the same issues.
I love Obscurity and Murky, and I think they’d look really cool together! Unfortunately this palette is out of my price range, but I might try to recreate it with stuff I already have or less expensive eyeshadows.
I own all these shades except two and I have to say I’m obsessed with Obscurity in particular.
I was surprised to see a shade get a C range score though!
Great colors, but too risky it seems. Bummer!
