Coloured Raine Juicy Boost Pressed Pigment Palette Review & Swatches
Juicy Boost
Coloured Raine Juicy Boost 18-Pan Pressed Pigment and Shadow Palette ($52.00 for 0.81 oz.) has three intense shimmer shades with the remaining shades being mattes. The palette itself has a mix of eyeshadows and pressed pigments (the ones that are not intended for the eye area, which are listed on the back). The shimmers are harder to use as they are thicker and creamier with Sweet Ruby being a nightmare to work with as it slid around and was uneven most of the time.
The mattes were a mixed bag; some were decent, while others fell short, and a few seemed to settle into my pores (which is something I’ve seen more commonly with drier, matte blushes) or catch on skin texture (in a way that is just not that common for me when working with eyeshadow–and my eyes were not abnormally dry!). In a way, the palette suffers from typical issues of brighter, more vivid matte eyeshadows/pressed pigments from the past, so it’s not terrible but hasn’t found a way to fix those issues.

Blueberry Burst
Blueberry Burst is a medium blue with cooler undertones and warmer, green and gold sparkle over an intense, metallic finish. The texture was creamy and more emollient, but it was moderately thick, so it was harder to diffuse it into the mattes in the palette without causing them to lift up or getting a lot of separated sparkles that went over the mattes but didn’t really blend into them.
It was also best applied with a fingertip as a dry brush resulted in uneven application. There were stray sparkles that dropped over the eight hours it lasted before creasing noticeably.

Formula Overview

2022 Formula: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented" and "blendable" with a "butterly smooth" feel. The majority of the matte eyeshadows were quite pigmented, while some of the shimmers were overly emollient, which resulted in sheerer and/or uneven coverage.
The matte eyeshadows have a bit of dryness to them, though they were pigmented and fairly blendable, but they tended to apply best over an eyeshadow primer, which ensured a better base for them to adhere to. The shimmer eyeshadows were best applied with fingertips or a flat, firm (and sometimes dampened) brush and pressed/patted into place, then lightly blended.
I did not love the two finishes paired together as the matte finish was thinner and more powdery compared to the thicker, denser shimmers, so the shimmers often "erased" the matte eyeshadows when blended out.
The formula was different than the brand's original single pan formula that they originally debuted with, and I preferred their original formula overall, though the new one is decent, just not as foolproof to work with.
Original formula review: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting, and blendable" and come in a variety of finishes. Most their eyeshadows are semi-opaque to opaque with a smooth, blendable textures that are easy to use and apply well to bare skin. The shimmers are slightly dense and creamier to the touch compared to the mattes, which aren't thin but don't have the same amount of slip. They tend to wear between eight and nine hours on me.

Coconut Water
Coconut Water is a bright, cooler white with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation that could be built up to full coverage with two to three layers or applied over a slightly tacky primer. The consistency was lightly powdery in the pan with a smidgen of fallout during application. This shade showed signs of fading after seven and a half hours of wear.

Sweet Ruby
Sweet Ruby is a bright, medium fuchsia pink with cool, bluish undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had opaque color coverage but was difficult to apply to the lid, even when using fingertips. The texture was very thick and prone to sliding around on the lid, so it was hard to achieve even coverage. There was a moderate amount of fallout during application and continuous fallout (to the point of irritation) throughout the eight hours it lasted for (before creasing).

Formula Overview
$6.99/0.064 oz. - $109.22 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting and blendable." The majority of the shades were pigmented and long-wearing with some being very blendable and others requiring a little more effort, though they were, generally, workable and easy enough to use, particularly give the more matte finish and intense coverage/brightness. A few shades felt drier to the touch, almost grainy, which isn't uncommon in more red/pink-based shades, but this didn't seem to change the application. Most of the shades were lightly to moderately powdery, so I would recommend applying these prior to doing base makeup due to some fallout during application.
The caveat is that several shades are "not intended for use around the immediate eye area," and these shades are: Crushin', Splash, Sauce, Party Drip, Bossed Up, Cute, Vibez, Level Up, and Purp Smurf (which makes Neo Blue the only one not on the list). Most products labeled "Pigment" but look like eyeshadows include color additives that are not approved for usage on the eye in the US (see FDA's additive list here) but other regions (typically Canada and the EU) do allow these ingredients on the eye area. In this instance, the Vivid Pigments can contain Red 6 Lake, Red 7 Lake, and Red 27 Lake that are shown as a "no" for eye usage per FDA.

Cranberry Vanilla
Cranberry Vanilla is a dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was lightly powdery with a smidgen of graininess present in the pan, but it didn’t impede the actual application with respect to blendability.
The major issue I had was this shade seemed to seep into my pores and emphasize skin texture, which resulted in a “freckled” look where I had darker spots of pink. It had opaque color payoff that lasted for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

LELimited Edition. $6.99.
Berry Beet
Berry Beet is a deeper, pinky-red with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had rich pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out without difficulty. The texture was slightly drier and a touch grainy–not as smooth as most matte eyeshadows are–but that didn’t impede the actual application. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours and left a faint stain behind.

Lemon Wheat Grass
Lemon Wheat Grass is a bright, deeper gold with warmer undertones and cooler, greenish-gold sparkle and shimmer paired with a metallic finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that adhered fairly well to bare skin, but it was very creamy and emollient, so it tended to apply the cleanest with a fingertip, though it was workable with a dry brush by patting and pressing it into place.
It was thicker than the mattes, so it was hard to diffuse or blend it with them. There was creasing present after eight hours of wear and light fallout over time.

Turmeric Shot
Turmeric Shot is a bright, deeper yellow with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff that adhered well to my lid as the product blended out easily, but the formula itself was prone to settling into pores and darkening there, which resulted in a “freckled” appearance. The texture was lightly powdery with a bit of dryness but didn’t indicate it was going to have any major problems in practice. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours before fading and left a stain behind.

Orange Carrot is a bright, medium orange with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, and it was easily built up to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was fairly soft, lightly powdery but blendable, but it seemed to settle into my pores and appeared freckled with random darker spots. The color itself seemed to last for a solid eight and a half hours on me.

Formula Overview
$6.99/0.064 oz. - $109.22 Per Ounce

Sweet Potato Mango
Sweet Potato Mango is a light-medium, yellowy brown with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent color payoff that adhered well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of product. The texture was smooth, soft without being overly powdery, and blendable. This shade wore well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Something I’ve been noticing with most of the recent makeup releases is that they look springy or summery, NOT even remotely autumnal. I’m guessing that this is likely due to the pandemic shutting down operations thereby stalling these new palettes. Not sure, just my theory. That aside, I *like* this palette, but I don’t love it enough to get it. Especially not in September!
I’m glad I decided to wait for your review on this before purchasing. While I really enjoy Colored Raine’s formula I was worried that this palette might have issues, and it sounds like their shimmer (dazzler I think they called it?) formula still needs some tweaking.
I do think they could’ve left out or reworks the middle red-pink row, it’s up to personal preference but I’d rather have less shades that aren’t intended for use around the eye area and less similarity of colors in that row in general. It’s a pretty palette and I do like the fact that they offered choices in terms of the packaging, but I feel a lot more confident in the fact that I didn’t pick it up now.
I loved their shimmers in other palettes, so it is disappointing to see all of these have some issues. On a positive note I love love LOVE Kale Yeah (like I thought I would) and if they end up offering it as a single I will get it. I know that they’ve added some of their other shadows from palettes as singles to the store after the palette is no longer for sale, but you’ve got to be pretty quick to get them before sell out if they are popular. Here’s to hoping I can snag one!
Of course the shades that I don’t have dupes for and which I covet the most are the pressed pigments. I didn’t used to care but I had a stingy experience taking off Bahamas from ABH Riviera, leaving me more wary. I picked up a bunch of Coloured Raine singles, though, and I’m very excited to try them.
I actually quite like the colors on the top row. It’s unfortunate that this is more of a mixed bag when it comes to performance.
Such bright beautiful popping colors, I love your eye looks Christine especially the way you made Sweet Ruby work even though it was a nightmare.
Hmm. I still want to love this. An 86% isn’t too bad… I guess. But I hate having even one unworkable shadow in a palette. Just love how bright and vibrant it seems, and from a company I do like to support so far…. I guess I’ll hold off. Maybe once this ever goes on sale in the future I’ll check it out again.
I can honestly say, hand on heart, that there is not one shade I like in this palette. It’s not just that the colour story does not suit me, but the lack of variability of the finishes is most disappointing from a brand that has previously done a range of finishes well.
Secondly, I realise it is tricky for brands to do bright shades in a matte finishes well and some of the ratings were pretty average.
Perhaps this palette was scheduled to come out earlier in your summer season, but due to the Covid 19 virus could only be released now.
Ditto (I shouldn’t be surprised, though)! When I first saw these, only 2 shades attracted me – Blueberry Burst and Lemon Wheat Grass – and both have pretty dismal ratings and descriptions and I’ve got reasonable dupes for both of them. I honestly don’t wear the sorts of colours showcased in this palette (now, those new Dior 5-pans that have been released are a different story entirely) and I don’t know many people who do wear those sorts of eye looks so even if this had been a top notch performer, it wouldn’t interest me at all.
Wow these eye looks are bomb! I’m going to try and copy these looks.I brought this palette and the umbrella. Haven’t used it yet but maybe I’ll use it with my multi-chrome shadows to help it out. I usually get along well with Coloured Raine eye shadows. Didn’t really need this but I like supporting Black owned beauty brands when I can.
Kale Yeah is the colour that most caught my eye here, and– what do you know, I have one of the dupes; Tree of Life is the shade I use on my eyebrows when I have my hair dyed dark green. 😀 If I could get a single of Kale Yeah easily I would probably jump for it.
I do like the colors in this palette but I think I want a few of the Glamlite palettes a bit more . Would love to see swatches of the limited edition lipsticks though.
I absolutely love the pink to orange look. love it!
Kale Yeah is the only one that really interest me, it is a gorgeous colour and the winner in this palette. I’m not going to buy the palette, but I’d buy Kale Yeah in a second if they release it as a single.
