Best New Beauty Products (December 2019)

Here’s a look at the top 25 products reviewed in the month of December, plus a summary of how many products and brands were reviewed and a break out of ratings! 🙂

I think it’d be fun to go through what we used, purchased, resisted, and so forth each month, here are some questions:

  1. What were your favorites from the last month?
  2. What didn’t impress you?
  3. Did you return anything you purchase?
  4. Or successfully resist temptation?

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

What were your favorites from the last month? Chanel’s Lumiere et Opulence quad (honestly, it’s become the “Empreinte du desert for this decade!), Fasali Liquid Glass Radiance Serum, Marc Jacobs Ultra Skinny Liner and Embryolisse moisturizer (having been without it for 24 hours, I really missed it). Also, my bedroom humidifier!
What didn’t impress you? I’m looking at less and less makeup so didn’t really see anything that didn’t impress me
Did you return anything you purchase? nope
Or successfully resist temptation? no but only because I wasn’t tempted by anything other than items I was already planning to purchase

What were your favorites from the last month? PML Dark Galaxy, Galactic Gold, and Divine Rose Palettes; Sydney Grace Autumn Reigns Palette and Pressed Blush in Paris Skies; Shroud Cosmetics Arcana Palette; Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Dulce Caramelo; MAC Lipglass in Counting Stars; ColourPop All Star Mattefying Face Primer; and Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Full Coverage Foundation in F0.2 and Concealer in C0.2.

What didn’t impress you? I like everything I bought/received so far. Being sick so much has put me behind on trying stuff out, but everything got pretty good reviews her and other places. THAT I DIDN’T BUY: NARS Overlust Cheek Palette, ABH Holiday lip vaults, and Melt Amor Eterno liquid lipsticks. Most brands holiday offerings didn’t impress me, TBH.

Did you return anything you purchased? No

Or successfully resist temptation? The things I resisted I put on my Christmas wish list and received, so I don’t think I can count them. lol

What were your favorites from the last month? Pat McGrath x Star Wars, Natasha Denona’s Metropolis Palette, Bobbi Brown’s Liquified Crushed Lipsticks, 2 of the Patrick Ta blushes were pretty nice looking, Tom Ford’s Soliel Neige collection was mostly great, too.

What didn’t impress you? Melt’s whole collection for the holidays, with the exception of the highlighter and the deep green eye liner (was that December or November? I forget) , the other 2 Patrick Ta blushes and most of ColourPop’s eyeshadow palettes due to their inclusion of pressed glitter shadows.

Did you return anything you purchase? Nope!

Or successfully resist temptation? Many a temptation! More than anyone knows. I really do still want the Tom Ford Soliel Neige quad, but I’m trying to rein that lemming in, if possible.

What were your favorites from the last month? Colourpop Going Coconuts palette, Marc Jacobs Steel(etto), Dior Backstage Cool Neutrals palette, Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks (Cobblestone, Burnished Bronze, Amethyst), MAC Eyeshadow (Grain), MAC lipsticks (Faux, Laissez Faire, Tres Blasé), Estée Lauder lipstick (Knockout Nude), Clinique Cheek Pop (Heather, Rosy), and UD 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliners (Mushroom).

What didn’t impress you? PMG Madame Greige lipstick. The formula is more drying than I thought it would be. Also a little disappointed with MAC Light Star-Dipped Face Palette. The shades fade too quickly.

Did you return anything you purchased? Nope.

Or successfully resist temptation? Last month, I finally gave in and bought Marc Jacobs Steel(etto) Palette, which I had been resisting since it was released almost a year ago. No regrets! Still trying to resist Hourglass Mood Exposure blush. I absolutely don’t need anymore blush, especially something this expensive. I am hoping this urge will pass.

What were your favorites from the last month?
Pixi Beauty Reflex Light palette, my Colour Pop lux lipsticks in LA Lady, Foolish and Tea Thyme and Huda Beauty’s Smokey Obsessions.

What didn’t impress you?
All the PMG palettes with tons of reds, pinks and orange brown shades.

Did you return anything you purchase?
No

Or successfully resist temptation?
I did resist the Dior’s Celebrate in Gold because I had far too many dupes for the shades. But I still love it.

What were your favorites from the last month?
My Clio Kill Cover balm is still going strong, and still enjoying the Clinique Cool Down trio. Also been loving the CT Darling Palette.

What didn’t impress you?
PMG’s sales tactics. Also, I got a NYX lip creme and it was awful, just so patchy.

Did you return anything you purchase?
I’m glaring at the NYX lip creme from across the room but I don’t feel spiteful enough to go out of my way to return something so cheap.

Or successfully resist temptation?
I’m making a mental cart of things I’d like to try in the future but I’m happy just window-shopping for now.

What were your favorites from the last month? CoverGirl + Olay Advanced Radiance Foundation, Maybelline Better Skin Concealer, Ulta Cream Blush in Sunrise, Beauty Bakerie Cotton Candy Champagne palette, any of my cool brown or plum eyeshadows, the Kaleidos Makeup Cyber Bronze and Astro-Pink palettes and Star Surfer highlighter, Em Cosmetics True Gloss in Secret Blush, PMGL Luxetrance Lipstick in Realness and MTHRSHIP Platinum Bronze palette, Tom Ford Lip Color in Casablanca, Colourpop Going Coconuts palette, Lisa Eldridge Velvet Fawn lipstick, Nars Skin Deep palette.

What didn’t impress you? My own creativity, LOL.

Did you return anything you purchase? I did not; everything I purchased I really like!

Or successfully resist temptation? I did go a little haywire in December, but, I’m committed to doing on a no-buy for an undetermined amount of time. If anyone has tips on sticking with a no-buy, let me know!

Pat McGrath lipsticks!!! So amazing! Gave a lot of those for Christmas.
NARS eyeshadow singles. NYX glitter glue.
Viseart Bridal Satin
Big box of FAB skincare.
Not impressed: Everything was pretty great.
Nothing returned.
Resisted temptation to buy New Pat McGrath palettes. Too expensive for me right now and too complicated to buy. I love her stuff but the culty atmosphere, staying awake all night for the launch, and calling her “Mother” just aren’t going to happen for me. I have a mother, Thank God, lol. I teach her about makeup and she’s the greatest dancer I have ever seen, mashallah.
