Best New Beauty Products (March 2020)

Here’s a look at the top 25 products reviewed in the month of March, plus a summary of how many products and brands were reviewed and a break out of ratings! 🙂

I think it’d be fun to go through what we used, purchased, resisted, and so forth each month, here are some questions:

  1. What were your favorites from the last month?
  2. What didn’t impress you?
  3. Did you return anything you purchase?
  4. Or successfully resist temptation?

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

What were your favorites from the last month?
Blushes! I bought the Lancome blush in miel glace, and I’ve fallen in love with its soft, peachy sheen. I bought the Natasha Denona bloom palette and have enjoyed playing with all the different ways to wear it. I also snagged a full size of my favorite highlighter, the Hourglass strobing powder in Incandescent. I’ve never found anything to compare to it. It just feels like such a grown-up highlighter.

What didn’t impress you?
As I mentioned in my last post, the Becca light shifter concealer – the name is misleading. It’s more of a subtle highlighter. I bought a three-pack of the Pat McGrath lip glosses, and I’m underwhelmed. They’re fine, but I wouldn’t repurchase.

Did you return anything you purchase?
No.

Or successfully resist temptation? I did not successfully resist buying the new Natasha Denona retro palette. I’m very excited to get it!

I debated answering these questions since I haven’t worn or bought makeup for weeks due to the virus, but I can answer one of them:

Or successfully resist temptation? The only temptations I had were Gucci sheer lipsticks, but I’m not going to think about buying makeup until the world resumes again. Then, if they’re still available, I’ll have to decide between Louisa Red, Mildred Rosewood, The Painted Veil, or Three Wise Girls.

What were your favorites from the last month? Coloured Raine Safari Raine palette, ND Lila Palette, CoverFX Blush duo in Soft Peach, Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam, CT Flawless Filter, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rose Velvet, CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless and Advanced Radiance Foundations, Maybelline Better Skin Concealer, Physicans Formula The Healthy Foundation

What didn’t impress you? I decluttered my ABH Master Palette by Mario early in the month… having some time to use what I have in my collection, I realized that while I loved the formula of the eyeshadows, the tones never looked right on me and, therefore, I never reached for it.

Did you return anything you purchase? I didn’t purchase anything!

Or successfully resist temptation? The last three months have been about resisting temptation, but it’s the end of my no buy! I’m so proud of what I’ve accomplished.

What were your favorites from the last month? Too many! Those YSL Rock ‘N Shine Lipsticks, CT Quads, especially the blue and maroon ones, Melt Rust Palette and Burnished Gel liner, plus Sugarpill C1 Capsule Palette. This last one was my only color cosmetic purchase for March.

What didn’t impress you? Melt Millennial Pinx has to be on the worst offenders list.

Did you return anything you purchase? Nope!

Or successfully resist temptation? Plenty! Mostly because my move took all my fun spending money! ?

I bought the Rebel-branded version of Green Lights when Nordstrom had their 25% sale. I’ve been vaguely hostile to CT as a brand as their powders and nude lipsticks pull yellow/orange on my, but I thought the color scheme was unique and – given the sale price – worth a try. I so love it. It’s very easy to apply, really lovely, and I’m happy with it. I have plenty of eyeshadow and din’t need this, but glad I got it and can see myself using it a lot for work.

Unlike some other folks, I’ve been using my at home time to play with eyeshadows I normally wouldn’t wear to the office, so while I played with this a bit, I tucked it away for when we do go back out into the world. I’ve been playing with a variety of PMG eyeshadows I have in sparkles and bright colors I normally don’t wear. They make me have joy in an otherwise joyless time.

What were your favorites from the last month? My favourites this month have been my Naked 2 palette,
bareMinerals Soft and Smokey and I have dipped into my ‘olives’ collection: Chanel Tisse D’Automne (appropriately because it is now autumn here in Aus), Dior’s 3 Coleur’s Khaki, Lancome’s Jade Fever and various neutral palettes to complement the shades. My favourite lipstick has been CP’s Foolish, EA’s Perfect Brick and MAC’s Marrakesh.

What didn’t impress you? As I haven’t purchased any makeup, except for staples, I really like my stash.

Did you return anything you purchase? No.

Or successfully resist temptation? Yes, CT’s Green Lights/The Rebel 2020. Because, really I do have enough gold and olive shades….but I so do love this one and maybe when the virus is all over, I may well get it.

What were your favorites from the last month? March has been about fifty years long, so it is hard to remember. I think it is the Jouer Rose Gold blush duo that I got on March 1, before I moved to Oklahoma and before quarantine. Also, Dr. Jart color correcting tiger grass cream, Sixteen92 Good Day for an Exorcism perfume oil, and I really fell back in love with NYX Total Control foundation.

What didn’t impress you? Gucci lipsticks. They do look fabulous and luxurious, and the range is interesting, but I don’t see anything that I want more than a cheaper dupe I already have. I will keep an open mind if they release future collections, because they could probably do some really interesting things.

Did you return anything you purchase? No. Most of my purchases were for bath & body stuff, so I bought things I already know that I like.

Or successfully resist temptation? Yeah, the only thing I bought recently that was non-essential was one of the CoverFX blush duos at Ulta.

THAT I DIDN’T BUY: Melt Cosmetics Rust Eyeshadow Palette, Melt Cosmetics Burnish Gel Liner, Ludicrous Lights Duo Chrome Highlighters, Revlon Melting Glass Shine Lipsticks, Gucci Sheer Lipsticks, Charlotte Tilbury quads and liners, Chanel La Fleur et L’Eau Collection.

What didn’t impress you? Huda Pastel Obsessions Palettes, Fenty Beauty Snap Shadow Palettes, UD Wired Palette, ColourPop Lux Glosses, Dominique Cosmetics Latte 2 Eyeshadow Palette (not quality, but color selection).

Did you return anything you purchased? No

Or successfully resist temptation? Uoma Black Magic Carnival Lipsstick in Trinidad, Melt Cosmetics Burnish Gel Liner, Melt Cosmetics Rust Eyeshadow Palette, Viseart Chou Chou Petit Pro Palette
