Celebutante

MAC Celebutante Dazzleshadow Extreme ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a brighter, medium berry pink with subtle, warm undertones and cooler pink and violet shimmer. It had a smoother, lightly metallic finish, and the more the color was buffed and blended out, the less intense the finish was.

It had opaque color coverage in a single layer that was difficult to apply evenly with a dry brush. A lightly dampened brush helped to spread out the product and even out the actual thickness along with the pigmentation on my skin. A fingertip also worked well but to get enough spreadability, it would have had to been applied all over the lid to work.

The consistency was dense, thick, and like a cream-powder, but the thickness made it a little more prone to emphasizing lid texture. It wore well for nine hours before starting to crease faintly but was mostly intact after 12 hours of wear (the marketed wear time).

Formula Overview

$20.00/0.05 oz. - $400.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "12-hour wear" with "silky smooth glide" and a "wet-like metallic texture." The pigmentation is supposed to have "one-swipe saturation," and most of the shades had nearly opaque to opaque coverage but a couple were more semi-opaque and buildable in coverage. The texture was lightly creamy, dense, and physically thicker than the average powder eyeshadow, and I found the thickness made them a little hard to work with, especially using a dry brush.

I had the best luck getting smooth, even coverage that didn't emphasize my lid texture with a lightly dampened brush or fingertips (though I preferred the precision a brush offered). Some shades looked more metallic and "molten" while others had a subdued sheen (which didn't seem fitting with the "Dazzleshadow Extreme" name, and on that note, these were not chocked full of sparkle in most instances, like Dazzleshadows are). I had faint creasing beginning between eight and 10 hours with most shades, while the color would be still be 70-75% intact after 12-hours of wear.

Couture Copper

MAC Couture Copper Dazzleshadow Extreme ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark copper with moderate, warm brown undertones and a soft, metallic sheen. It had rich color payoff that adhered fairly evenly to bare skin, though there was a bit of fallout during application as the texture was a bit thicker and denser to work with, though it sat well on my lid. To avoid fallout and get a more foolproof application, I’d recommend using a lightly dampened brush to apply. It wore well for nine hours before fading visibly but most of the color was present after 12 hours of wear.

Objet d'Art

MAC Objet d’Art Dazzleshadow Extreme ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium-dark gold with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had one of the more intense finishes–both sparkly and metallic–of the line-up. The consistency felt like a loosely-pressed powder with a creaminess to it that isn’t typically found in the brand’s formulas, but there was a surprising amount of fallout during application (even with a fingertip!).

With a dry brush, it was hard to get the product to pick up evenly and stay on my brush. I found a dampened brush yielded the least fallout but had the most payoff and smoothest application of color overall. It had good pigmentation that stayed on well for nine hours before starting to crease with slightly worse creasing by the 12th hour (what it was marketed as wearing for).

Kiss of Klimt

MAC Kiss of Klimt Dazzleshadow Extreme ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a light gold with moderate, warm yellow undertones and a lightly metallic finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage applied with a dry brush, and it was one of the weaker shades in the formula as far as pigmentation went. I’d suggest using a dampened brush or fingertip as both yielded better coverage initially.

The eyeshadow had a smooth, dense but not too thick texture–it was easier to pick up, apply, and blend out as it wasn’t as thick as some of the other shades in the formula. It lasted well for nine and a half hours before creasing noticeably.

Joie de Glitz

MAC Joie de Glitz Dazzleshadow Extreme ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium, olive green with subtle, warm undertones and lighter, brighter gold sparkle throughout that gave it a sparkling, metallic finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, which adhered evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The texture felt like a denser, cream-powder formula (more powder than cream, though) but wasn’t too thick, so it didn’t emphasize natural texture and blended out easily. The color wore well for nine and a half hours before creasing a bit.

Gustav Klimt was a Vienna Successionist plainer of the late 1800s, probably best known for The Kiss. Google it; you know it. He used a lot of gilding and still is considered highly decorative. Klimt did a lot of highly eroticized (for the time) female forms and was pretty shocking for his day. Some opinions say he was also a misogynist.

I don’t have MUG Jester, but I just bought Joie de Glitz and I’m obsessed!!! I got a compliment the first time I wore it so that’s always a good sign!

These are lovely eyeshadow shades containing most of my favourite colours: bronze, golds and olive. The soft gold shade reminds me of the one in Lancome’s Jade Fever and it is a very useful colour when doing an olive eye look.
Only Objet D’Art was poorly rated, which in a way is an easy pass as there are so many dupes for this gold shade.
All in all, I am feeling quite positive about these latest MAC additions to their range.
