Grande Pro Vol. 3

Viseart Grande Pro Vol. 3 Grande Pro Palette ($175.00 for 2.1 oz.) is a limited edition, 30-pan palette that features all matte shades across blues, greens, reds, and yellows. Each column features a particular color family and goes from darker to lighter.

Overall, the products performed similarly to past Viseart matte eyeshadows with most shades applying better and were more blendable in practice than the initial swatches would have indicated. Some shades were more pigmented in practice than initially swatched, too, which is a common characteristic of the Viseart formula.

There were a few shades that took some extra effort to blend out, and some shades did not build up without a primer or had moderate fallout during the building process. The majority of the shades lasted between eight and nine hours on me.

Worth noting, it is a “Pressed Pigment” palette, and the brand doesn’t actually separate out whether any of the shades are actually eyeshadows as the Pressed Pigment delineation is because there are color additives used in, at least some of, the shades that are not approved for use on the immediate area by FDA (but are approved for use on the immediate eye area in the EU). This information did not appear on the packaging or on the palette that I could find, but the palette says Pigment and not eyeshadow.

Afloat (1)

Afloat (1) is a rich, inky blue with strong, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a fairly soft, smooth consistency that felt drier than the average Viseart matte but was more refined than similarly-hued deeper blues.

The color applied evenly and blended out nicely along the edges. It wore well for nine hours on me before fading noticeably and left a subtle stain behind.

Thunder (2)

Thunder (2) is a deep, purplish-gray with cool undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was excellent, but the texture was on the more powdery side, so there was fallout during application. I highly recommend picking up the smallest amount and building up. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before starting to fade on me.

Montane (3)

Montane (3) is a blackened green with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had opaque color payoff that applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of product that blended out without difficulty. This shade lasted well for eight and a half hours before I noticed fading.

Ingredients

Chestnut (4)

Chestnut (4) is a deep burgundy with cooler undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out fairly easily along the edges, though the richer, deeper hue made it less effortless compared to Viseart’s best mattes. It wore well for nine hours on me before showing signs of wear, and it left a stain behind upon removal.

Ingredients

TALC, MICA, OCTYLDODECYL STEAROYL STEARATE, ZINC STEARATE, CALCIUM RESINATE. Cider (5)

Cider (5) is a muted, light-medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was nearly opaque in one layer, which was easily built up to full coverage with less than half of a layer. The consistency was soft, lightly powdery in the pan, and went on evenly and blended out well along the edges. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before I noticed fading.

Ingredients

Ultramarine (7) is a bright, cobalt blue with strong, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had buildable color payoff from semi-opaque to opaque (two layers). Pacific (8)

Pacific (8) is a rich, deepened teal with cool undertones and a matte finish. The texture felt slightly denser, a touch drier, but substantial and yielded intense color payoff with very little product. The challenge was that it didn’t blend out as effortlessly as most of Viseart’s mattes have for me. It stayed on well for nine hours and left a stain behind upon removal.

Teal (14)

Teal (14) is a brighter, medium-dark teal with cool undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was nearly opaque in one pass, which built up easily to full coverage with less than half of a layer. The texture was soft, not too firmly nor too softly pressed into the pan, and blendable. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before starting to fade.

Lucky (15) is a bright, grass green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium pigmentation that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage over bare skin and opaque coverage over a primer. The texture was drier, slightly powdery and prone to fallout, so I’d be careful working with it or work on eyeshadow prior to face. It lasted decently for eight hours on me before fading visibly.

Toasted (28)

Toasted (28) is a medium copper with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent color payoff that adhered well to bare skin and blended out without issue along the edges. The consistency was soft, a little powdery in the pan, but it wasn’t prone to fallout during application. It wore well for eight and a half hours before I noticed fading.

Deborah spoke of labor intensive. This gives new meaning to the term. The review looks like 5 all-nighters. How you can churn it out, without sacrificing insight and quality will never cease to amaze me. If s.o. Is looking for a mega with multi, not-quite-all-bright shades, this is it. Iโ€™m sure many will appreciate the color layout, especially in view of so many random megas lately. This is both comprehensive and comprehensible. So many are a struggle to figure out. This one is a winner. Go, Viseart!

I may be ignorant of the cosmetics market, but at first glance, I am wondering if there is market large enough to produce a large palette at that price point. Seems like a risky business decision, but I could be wrong.

I just got mine yesterday and itโ€™s more beautiful in person. Your review makes me feel even better about splurging on this palette! I have Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 so of course I had to add Vol. 3 to the collection.

Iโ€™m amazed at how you can get through so many products to review so quickly. Iโ€™d love to know how you do it so I could apply the same method and get through my stash!

With the exception of a couple of rogue shades, this performed well and certainly covers a lot of shades and depths. I really like it and since the shades that scored poorly are not ones I would use anyway, this would likely work well for me. I have been trying to stay away from these mega-palettes as I just don’t want to set aside the amount of space that storing palettes like this entails. I will have to think about this one.

I’m so on the fence on this one. On the one hand, I am thrilled by the first three rows and these are just my colors. And I adore the gorgeous eye look you created, Christine. Also the Viseart shade nuances are truly lovely. On the other, some of these shades are getting really low ratings, and since I never wear reds or oranges, and my favorite yellow is a low scorer, I’m wondering if this palette would prove frustrating and I’d do better getting more greens from SG.

This is how a mega palette should look! It’s very inviting, not hard to get an overview of the colours and I found it very easy to imagine a lot of looks, using this palette. There are some shades I absolutely love, and most of them not in a colour family I use much at all but this palette made me want to at least try them.
Very well done Viseart!

Thanks Christine – as always your looks are amazing! Do you find yourself still reaching for this palette? Did you find that you had eye irritation over time?

Cross referencing their ingredients with safe color additives on the FDA website, it seems as though Red 7, Red 28, and barium are the additives that are not indicated for eye use

I cross checked the EU data base and am not entirely sure I understand it. When I look up Red 28 for example, it lists it as a carcinogen, but when I look up the number beside it, it shows up as a cosmetic colorant.

After your amazing commentary on glitters, I am wondering if you have any thoughts or comments on pigments? Despite all I have read over the years, I still do not know if these are truly safe and I hesitate to buy from some indie brands or more experimental companies for this reason

Hi Maya,

I haven’t been able to find much information re: pigments other than that a small percentage (but I guess high enough for FDA to say not to use it!) can react to them – but everything I’ve seen has been in the vein of an allergic reaction. The possible reactions seem largely within the same scope of an allergic reaction to ordinary ingredients that you may find in products, generally. I know some readers react to pink/plum/red eyeshadows that exist and are using approved colorants for eye area. Pigments can stain the skin, but it is generally a short-lived thing and in the same vein as a red lipstick staining the lips after wear.

I do not have reactions or irritation to pressed pigments.

Thanks so much Christine esp for making time to respond to this older post when I am sure you are busy! If I were to trust any brand with pigments it would probably be Viseart so I lean more towards them than anything else. I guess a good test would be to try plum / red / pink eyeshadows on their own first so I will add that to my to do list ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks again and hope you are safe and well!
