Too Faced White Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
White Chocolate Bar
Too Faced White Chocolate Bar Chocolate Bar Eye Palette ($49.00 for 0.42 oz.) is a new, limited edition eyeshadow palette that is available for Rouge/VIB members from 11/21 to 11/22 and then releases for everyone on at 11/23. It’s one of Too Faced’s worst palettes, and it’s still a mediocre, not-worth-$5 palette used over their own primer. The formula used in this palette is so dry that shades are often dusty, chalky, or powdery (or some mix) with many shades applying with little pigmentation, sheering out as soon as they’re touched, and have little wear time (even over primer!).
This palette was a head-scratcher: I have no idea why Too Faced would release this palette when their White Chocolate Chip Palette from last year was one of the brand’s worst palettes… ever (my review here). Even retailer reviews on it were pitiful, 37% of Sephora reviewers rated it 1-star with 64% rating it 3-stars or below; and it’s rare to see such low average ratings (2.7/5 for last year’s White Chocolate Chip) on any products on Sephora–the infamous Anastasia Subculture is rated 3.7/5.
The palette shares the bulk of its shades with last year’s palette, and there was little to no room for improvement from palette to palette, so this seemed like it was just a waste of time and money for all involved. It’s actually more frustrating to see a brand completely disregard customer feedback. It makes me feel like the brand doesn’t care, takes no pride in their products, and has no desire to improve their products.

Mint Chocolate (White Chocolate)
Mint Chocolate (White) is a light-medium green with cooler undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, but the slightly powdery texture made it more difficult to apply to my lid and get even, opaque coverage without a lot of the product dusting away as I worked. The color stayed on well for seven hours.

Glaze
Glaze is a pale beige with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was smoother and silkier than most shades in the palette, though it was powdery and had a lot of fallout if it wasn’t tapped off heavily before using (and then it had semi-sheer coverage as a result). This shade did not build up, and it did have a tendency to drop product onto the lid when I tried using it on the brow bone, so it was a challenge to use without it turning other shades gray. It wore well for six hours on me.

Cake Batter
Cake Batter is a light-medium peachy orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was incredibly powdery and sheered out easily on the skin, even with a primer it only managed to show up as semi-sheer on me. It lasted for six hours on me.

Exotica
Exotica is a light, golden peach with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It appeared a lot lighter in the pan than last year’s palette but swatched similarly–just a bit lighter. The texture was drier and dusty and felt loosely pressed in the pan, so it was messy to use in the pan and had a tendency to fallout over time. I felt like my eyelid ate this shade in particular as it was almost gone in four hours. I tried it over Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance primer and it lasted a mere six hours before showing significant signs of fading.

Chocolate Syrup
Chocolate Syrup is a muted, medium mauve with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had medium coverage, which wasn’t buildable and improved only minorly over primer. The consistency was drier, powdery, and difficult to work with as there was a lot of fallout and not enough pigment stuck to the skin. It lasted for six hours on me.

Pearl Candy
Pearl Candy is a bright white with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency was drier and felt flaky, as chunks of powder came away from the pan. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that did not build up well and applied unevenly to the lid unless I used a dampened brush. It had faded significantly by the five-hour mark. It was worse than the one included in the White Chocolate Chip palette.

Raspberry Rose (White Chocolate)
Raspberry Rose (White) is a light-medium pink with warm undertones and a golden, pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation but none of it applied and adhered well–it looked like a dry, dusty whitish-pink after being on my lid for a minute and that was over primer. The color was also deeper and did not seem to have the same chalky feel as last year’s version. It applied decently and lasted for a whopping four hours on me.

Indulge
Indulge is a light, golden pewter with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It was a bit lighter and warmer compared to last year’s palette. It had smei-opaque color payoff in a single layer and was fairly blendable, as it wasn’t too powdery in the pan and seemed to have binder in it. The color stayed on well for six and a half hours on me.

Lavender Cake
Lavender Cake is a light-medium lavender with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer coverage with a chalky, powdery texture that was prone to sheering out or else making a big mess underneath the eyes and/or in the pan. I tried patting and packing it on over Too Faced’s primer to no avail. It had vanished within five hours of wear.

Guilt-Free
Guilt-Free is a very light taupe with cooler undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer coverage paired with a chalky, powdery texture that was prone to sheering out on the skin. When I tried patting it on top of the brand’s primer, it looked marginally more pigmented but did not build up beyond semi-sheer. Defying the odds, Too Faced made this shade even worse–it had a chalkier, almost white-tinged base that made the color appear lighter and was even less pigmented than the one in the White Chocolate Chip palette. I couldn’t tell if it was still there within five hours of wear.

Smoked Sea Salt
Smoked Sea Salt is a dark taupe brown with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow was quite powdery in the pan, which resulted in semi-sheer coverage that did not build up at all (even over primer). It applied unevenly and was difficult to blend to even it out as it adhered strongly to bare skin wherever it decided to melt on. The color had started to look splotchy and faded after five hours of wear.

Frosted Apricot
Frosted Apricot is a medium, pink-coral with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It was another shade with that useless sparkle that sits on top but doesn’t bind with the powder, so it doesn’t show up on the skin and usually falls below the lid during application. The eyeshadow had good pigmentation with a powdery texture that tended to clump up when I used it with a flat brush. I could only get this one to work decently blended above the crease, but it faded so quickly whenever I tried using it on the lid (five hours).

Cookie Dough
Cookie Dough is a medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish with flecks of gold sparkle. The sparkle did not bind with the product and just got trapped in the brush or fell below the lid during application. The eyeshadow had a dry, powdery texture that was prone to sheering out and had a ton of excess product kicked up in the pan. It was also darker and warmer compared to last year’s version. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that applied poorly, and there was fallout and some unevenness overall. It lasted for four and a half hours on me.

Black Sugar
Black Sugar is a medium black with neutral-to-warm undertones and faint sparkle over a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a drier texture that was a bit thin, so it did not apply as well as it could have and had a tendency to go on unevenly and not blend out well. It wore well for seven hours on me.

This is outright grim. TF as a brand would be better off not releasing stuff like this at all. Thanks for taking the time for thorough review. You’ve saved many people many dollars.
I don’t know why they bothered!
Yep, same conclusion here. Too Faced is out to make a quick buck and doesn’t care about the quality of its products. Buyer beware!
Maybe if they had pulled the original White Chocolate Chip and pushed this as a new & improved version… but nope, not at all, not even a little bit.
Oh lorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd. I ordered it a few hours ago… this may be going straight back to Sephora once I try it out.
Keep us posted!
Too Faced need to stop … I have the impression the only decent “new products” are the lips products. What’s going on with them ?
I liked Just Peachy Mattes enough – like not a formula I’d gravitate toward but many steps above this palette.
WOW. That’s BAD. I almost took a chance on this one because I’ve wanted a pastel palette and missed out on KVD’s – thanks for saving me!
Better off getting LORAC’s current Mega Pro for pastels compared to this (and I didn’t like LORAC much either) – but maybe look for singles in key pastel hues!
I have hopes pastel goth will be reissued. Zoeva has a pastel palette, and maybe the Lorac brunch is still around. They are on here….may not be great, but far better than this. Zoeva has a (this) Friday sale, if you are not averse to ordering internationally.
I’ve heard some good things about Sigma’s Creme de Couture palette. At $40 it’s pricey for a brand that’s not that well-known, but it might be worth a look.
Sigma has one on their site. I think it’s on sale?
Sigma re-released their palatal palette this year for the holidays. I wanted it years ago but just could not justify the order with shipping at that time.
Sigma has a pastel palette out too. It needs some finagling but would be worth it on sale!
It’s really a shame how sometimes companies sabotage their name by their own hands!
Last thing I purchased from Too Faced is the Born This Way concealer .. I haven’t been impressed with anything after that.
It is a surprise sometimes 🙁
Wow! Awesome review and I appreciate your candor. I had a moment where I thought I wanted this because I have all of the other Chocolate Bar palettes, although I had gotten rid of the two minis (the matte one and the white chip one) because they were terrible. This seems to be that same formula in a larger format. I do not understand how or why TF would completely ignore the vast majority of customer feedback on those and produce this awful product.
Yeah, if you tried the White Chocolate Chip one and did not like that formula… this is the same or worse!
Goodness, does TF not have a quality control department AT ALL?! Ridiculous. (Of course, I’m saving money, so – – FTW??) 🙂
It makes one wonder!
Christine, I use Temptalia as a resource all the time and love ALL your reviews – but I have to admit that I have a special fondness for the bad ones. You strike just the perfect tone of restrained disappointment and frustration when something gets a bad review. Never dramatic, never click-bait-y…. just this subtle sadness that reminds me of the sinking feeling I’d get as a child when my mom told me she was ‘disappointed’ in me. It never fails to make me laugh, just thinking about how appropriately chastised the brand should be feeling!
Thank you, Carson! 🙂
Totally agree!
Carson, you are right on the money! Christine’s tone says she knows they could have done better and she’s disappointed they didn’t make the effort 😉 I enjoy a good over-the-top ranty negative review too, but there’s something to be said for matter-of-fact statement of flaws.
Hahaha, this is spot on. I totally agree. Christine is really fair and really does try with each review, which makes me think that any brand that gets a low rating really, really deserves it. Stop disappointing Christine, brands!
Carson, you are exactly right. I love the way Christine writes a negative review. Never mean-spirited…just down-to-earth, well-written facts and very detailed descriptions, with a side of disappointment.
Yes! This! This is exactly how I feel when Christine ( Hi ?? Don’t mean to speak about you like you aren’t here…Happy almost eat ourselves into a food coma day! ) is badly disappointed to the point of frustration and restrained anger on our behalfs ?
Behaves…Behalfs…behaves… Hey! I never said I was smart ..I just love makeup ? ?
??♀️Behalves. ??♀️?
I completely agree also Carson. Well said.
I totally agree! I get excited and think to myself, “Ooo, it must really be bad if Christine gives it an F!” then rub my hands together evilly before clicking the link. XP
Wow, I just don’t get how a “high end” makeup company can release such terrible products. Don’t they test it on people? Don’t they read reviews of their products after they’re released? Don’t they care about their reputation? This palette sounds like it’s not good enough to be in a drugstore. What a mess!
It’s really strange, as some shades were still pretty bad over primer!
Some of the colours in this are so ugly – they’re like institutional wall paint colours in the 50’s. Others are just washed out and dull looking. To top it all off – absolutely inexcusably bad performance. Too Faced is capable of so much better. What’s sad is that they discontinued some of their really nice 9-pan palettes and got rid of their single shadows that were good. It’s like they’re deliberately shooting themselves in the foot releasing bad stuff like this.
It is an odd combination of colors – I know that was an issue with the White Chocolate Chip palette, too – too many light/mid-tone shades.
I remember when Too Faced put out some of my most favorite palettes. This review was straight up depressing.
Perhaps the brand needs a new visionary to take control and put out quality product again.
This was bad even for TF!
I just laughed for about 10 minutes at the bit in Guilt-free ‘defying the odds, they made it even worse’ ? Well I was a bit sad it was out of stock on the selfridges website because I liked the colours, now more relieved! Thanks Christine!
You missed nothing at all!!
There’s “bad”, and then there’s BA-AAAAD. This palette is thoroughly atrocious, and worse than a an Aziza Palette at the 99¢ Store.
I believe you nailed it when you wrote: “It makes me feel like the brand doesn’t care, takes no pride in their products, and has no desire to improve their products.”
I would have to not only agree with that statement, but also there is the strong, and growing sense that not only does Jerrod Blandino not care, but he’s so deep in his one little world of chocolate scented, sodium saccharin added, unicorn palettes that he is just utterly (and possibly psychotically) OBLIVIOUS to any and all customer concerns, complaints, whatev!
*Rant over*
*own, not “one”.
*accidentally hit “a” before “an”, I’m obviously having a moment!
I wonder if there’s a way for the brand to scent the PALETTE but not the actual eyeshadows.
Now there’s an idea whose time has come! Yes, that would be great. Also, I do believe that they could just leave that artificial sweetener OUT. Perhaps replace it with Stevia, instead? Or, here’s a thought, NO sweetener at all! I just don’t see why one would ever need flavored eyelids. Ever.
Just throw the dsm at him. (The psych manual.) Knock him senseless, and i’ll grab Clover! And, btw, Aziza Clinging Vine dark green mascara was my fave in the late 60s, early 70s! Another expression occurs to me: laughing all the way to the bank. He knows exactly what he is doing, and is going to milk that cash cow as long as she produces. He doesn’t care that he has lost credibility. Not only that, but holiday tf is usually PRC. Wonder if PRC saccharine is worse that stateside? Very few of us are left, who remember when tf actually had some good stuff. It was SO long ago!
Right?!?! I feel like there’s hardly anyone around that remembers how freaking good too faced used to be. There are some YouTube beauty reviewers that speak of the Pb&J Palette or even PRETTY CUTE… which was PRETTY AWFUL… like they were the grand ol glory days! Are they kidding?! Pretty Rebel! Too Faced ❤️’S Sephora… that era was amazeballs!! My sister still has a TF palette I got her from before the 9 pans when they were really new. Even though she doesn’t use it anymore we’ve swatched it lately and as ancient as it is, it still whomps on the horrible matte chocolate chip and white chocolate chip from last year.
Hey Kjh, I remember their eyeshadow duos in the squareish containers with the sassy face on the top. Circa 1999. The one I had was matte black and super sparkly silver. That piece was stellar.
Dude, yes! You are so right! He’s oblivious. You’d think if Kat was really his friend she’d tell him like “that one palette, Jared…”
Love the “no eyeshadow look” you’re wearing! Oh, wait, we’re actually supposed to see some pigment there. :-O Not that I was ever tempted to buy this palette but I hope you save many others from wasting their money. TF, how low you have fallen.
I know!! 🙁
This made me laugh! It took six different shades from this palette for Christine to get that no-shadow look. Given her talent for creating eye looks, this is pretty sad for Too Faced.
I agree with you Christine that the problem isn’t so much that they made a crappy palette, but that they re-released it after everyone told them how crappy it was. I can’t believe a brand would shoot themselves in the foot like this.
Yeah, the re-release just made the poor quality even more intolerable!
I can see the green and the lavender being duds but TF should be able to put out quality browns, mauves, taupes, and metallic neutrals so this is kind of baffling. At first I was a little excited because I thought it was a “redo” of the Chip palette but….. bleh. Must be frustrating to review such garbage when you’re knee deep in the holiday rush.
Who would have thought the green would have been one of the better shades in this palette!
Wow this is so disappointing… I was quite happy because the brand is going to start selling their products in Brazil for the first time… Would you have any recommendation for a first product to try from them?
I like their La Creme lipsticks a lot! 🙂 Their blush is also nice as long as you aren’t married to the 16-hour wear time claim!
Love me some blush!? I will check them out! Thank you
Me too! I bought the La Creme lipstick in Honey Bear because you were wearing it a lot in your makeup looks and I always thought ohhh what is that lipstick? I saw it listed in several different looks and finally picked it up myself. Now it is one of my super favorites which I keep on top of my vanity at all times. So lovely and easy to wear. It is so comfortable. Thanks! I am also a big fan of the Love Flush Blushes.
Too Faced is also coming (back) to the Netherlands some time soon. Well, they can keep this palette far far away from us!
See this is why I’m not a TooFaced fan. I have 1 product by them, the PB and Jrlly palette. That’s it. The way they just pump out terrible products is disrespectful to their customers.
I’m just so confused why they would re-release the shades from last year’s palette when it was so poorly received!
Holy new nadirs! This is dreadful, even for tf. My plan would definitely include reissuing D and F shades in three different palettes! They didn’t even change the names. I attribute some of this to younger people not tuning in to word driven blogs. Hit the IG. Those look good swatched, and they’re different. Well, it’s Jerrod’s instagram, and they are not different, and if you took the time to read a reputable resource, you would know that. This is almost leading me into my phone/device rant and off topic. I am glad that you have young readers, who will be able to build great stashes through the exercise of informed judgment. This won’t be in their first collection drawer! To me, each tf post is an adventure in Barnumism. There’s a sucker born every minute.
It’s just really strange when the majority of their customer base has spoken SO SO loudly on these shades already 🙁
Why, Too Faced, why? The original Choc. Bar palettes are so good. *sigh*
That kinda makes it worse since I feel like the full-sized Chocolate Bars are supposed to be “normal” quality for TF.
IKR?! The new owners are just ruining their best palettes. 🙁
How do you really feel about it? LOL
Thanks for suffering through this one for us!
Well, at least it didn’t take long to wear test!
??? I wasn’t expecting that. You got me! Full on soda out nose ? I haven’t been surprised laughed that off guard in forever! ✋ ?
LOL!
Hi, I have this palette and I completely disagree with your grading. I love the quality and it performs beautifully. The lilac shade is my fave and it’s super pigmented. Btw I’m a huge fan of your website I just wanted to share my opinion. Lots of love, E.
Glad you are loving yours, Esther!
Whenever I lurk on reddit, people invariable post Too Faced palettes in their collections. But it’s always the older ones! I have seen fewer and fewer new releases in people’s stashes. The brand needs a rethink, in my opinion. I don’t understand who buys these terrible performing palettes. Thanks for your honesty, someone has to hold them to their own standards.
They also have a tendency to put out the same shades over the years, so I think that is also why!
Who is their audience? Like when TF head honchos get together around a board room table and pitch products toward their dream customer, who is that person? I’m getting the feeling it’s a 13 year old who likes cute packaging and hasn’t tried enough makeup yet to recognize or care about quality. Huge turnoff. And what’s their excuse for charging $50 for this when I could get a decent Colourpop palette for way less?
Thank you for pulling no punches. You are a gem among bloggers.
The color scheme won’t appeal to everyone, but I have no idea why the quality of basic shades would be so low (and they have done better even in their so-so palettes!).
The part that gets me is that Too Faced has used all of these shades before in many other palettes with much better ratings. Why aren’t they using the successful formulas for their eyeshadows?
It is woeful.
It’s very odd!
Beyond their eye shadow primers and blushes I have very little interest in this brand, particularly because so many of their palettes get either terrible or highly mixed reviews.
Some of their eyeshadows are just fine so long as you have a solid primer underneath them, but then sometimes, it’s like dust.
Woo hoo! You just saved me $50. TF’s eyeshadow lineup is tanking.
Happy to help!
I cannot understand how this happens. (I’m sure I’ve said that before.) When a brand knocks it out of the park, why do they then turn around and try and reinvent the wheel for the umpteenth time? For example, it seems the matte formula they used in the new peachy matte palette is pretty well universally loved. Awesome! So why not use that same formula for the mattes in other palettes? I’ll never understand.
I wish I knew!
I love these cooler shades so this lmakes me sad. Why Too Faced? They release too many collections in a year for them all to be quality. They have that golden chocolate coming up next & the packaging looks killer but they need to do something about the shadows! I was on board for this until I saw your swatches.. oh well.
Thanks Christine for doing our dirty work!
Here’s hoping the next one is better!
I have now given away every single Too Faced eyeshadow palette I’ve ever bought. They won’t be getting any more of my $ for eyeshadow.
Also, your point about Sephora’s reviews is a great one. I have quit reviewing products on their website after the whole Subculture debacle. I gave it a bad review, had a large number of people rate it as “helpful”, yet when I sorted the reviews by most helpful, my review ended up deep, deep into the pages of reviews behind positive reviews that were not rated by as many people as “helpful”. It was somewhere between the 16th and 26th pages of reviews, well past what anybody would normally read when looking for the most helpful reviews. I figure if I’m going to invest my time in writing a thoughtful review, but they don’t have the decency to fairly treat my words, I’m not wasting anymore of my time on their reviews. I also don’t bother reading their reviews after having that experience, as they have shown to “curate” reviews to optimize selling us whatever the product of the moment is, regardless of quality.
I’m not sure how Sephora’s reviews are sorted on default – it could be recency? I am not sure. But hey, at least your review was still there – that’s an improvement from what I hear!
I hope Too Faced is paying attention. If they just put a little more effort into their formula, I’d buy this. I love the mint color. But the minute I saw this promo’d, I knew it was going to be stinking trash. I think you were very fair in your review! Too Faced needs to take more pride in their products and not release obvious junk.
I’d love to have them surprised me, but I’m not particularly hopeful right now!
I can’t quite decide if you’re ever so politely savage or just savagely polite… not that it matters, because I love your reviews.
TF need to sit in the corner, face the wall and think seriously about their life choices.
Haha! 😉
I lurked for years before I started commenting and now I’m part of the peanut gallery and I have NEVER…. in all that time seen you not be able to pull out a fierce look. Until now. You have worked your powerful cosmetic sorcery on some pretty bad stinkers … to the point where I’m on to you. I KNOW you have sorcery, magic, supernatural ninja application skills. If this is what your magnificent makeup juju powers created then anyone else is doomed. Shows over, don’t forget to tip your waitresses, be careful and goodnight White Chocolate palette of doom.
I’m not surprised. It “looked” bad to me without reading reviews. The white chocolate chip or whatever it was called was the only thing I ever ordered, opened and returned without trying. Not even all that keen on their popular chocolate bar palette (granted I only tried on store and didn’t purchase)
Yeah, you didn’t miss out on the White Chocolate Chip palette at all, lol!
Thank you so much for your reviews! I love my Chocolate Bar palettes, but the White Chocolate Chip palette disappointed me the same way it disappointed most. I was sincerely hoping they would have improved the formula because i am very fair-skinned and the colors appealed to me. Clearly, this is not the case. I’m glad I have learned not to buy any limited-edition Too-Faced products without having read your reviews first, Christine. It’s so unfortunate, Too Faced makes some of my favorite products and also some of the worst.
Yeah, if you did not like White Chocolate Chip, I can’t imagine you enjoying this one 🙁
Usually, even when a palette gets a negative review from you, I am still impressed by the look you managed to create. You seem to be able to create beauty even with sub-par products. This is the first one I can remember not feeling this way about. Oh Too Faced, why?!
I figured the look WITH primer really said it all…
Wow… that’s awful. Well, money saved since I thought that it was really pretty. Now if only KVD would re-release Pastel Goth…
If only!
It makes me even more angry because Too Faced has released SO MANY products this year. They have so many other products that are coming out for end of the year/holiday that this was completely unnecessary, and they released it anyway even though it’s awful.
There are a few things from the TF permanent range that I really like, but I’m kind of at the point where I would rather find dupes than repurchase anything from them because of stuff like this.
They have seemed to do more this year, and I don’t know if that’s the result of Estee Lauder or that they’ve gotten big enough to have the cash flow to support a greater number of SKUs (because some of this was likely already in planning when they were bought out, but we are getting to the point where anything we see likely came post-acquisition).
Christine, the review is so good and kind of bittersweet. Your candor and honesty is so good and why I always trust your reviews.
I thought after the Just Peachy palette they had gotten their act together but obviously they don’t. It’s really sad they didn’t listen to us last year; we told them how bad white chocolate chip was and yet they would choose to replicate in a full size palette. ?♀️
Thank you, Brenda!
Their holiday palettes were better than this by a mile, and I felt like they were a bit better overall compared to past holiday seasons, so I thought they were improving, too.
Yikes! Not good!!
Definitely not!
Soon you won’t be seeing Too-Faced at the high end retailers like Sephora etc. They are losing money on all the returns and risking their own reputations by stocking such junk . What is going on with Too-Faced ? They’ve become too gimmicky – it can’t last fir them unless they turn it all around .
I feel like they are more popular than ever, even though it does seem like a vocal minority very much have lost patience with the brand!
I’d be embarrassed if I worked for Too Faced. Seriously.
