Too Faced Stardust Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced Stardust Eyeshadow Palette

Too Faced Stardust Eyeshadow Palette ($45.00 for 0.48 oz.) includes twelve eyeshadows, plus a loose glitter, travel-sized primer, and travel-sized mascara. It’s a good palette overall, and there was only one shade that I felt was harder to work with (Golden Nugget), but otherwise, it was easy to use, the eyeshadows blended out, and pigmentation was good for most shades. There was a good mix of finishes, and the palette certainly brings to mind the vibe of Vegas–desert tones and a little glitz.

Chandelier is a creamy white with subtle, neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin finish. It had excellent pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture with moderate density. The eyeshadow applied well to bare skin and lasted for eight hours on me. Anna Sui Pearl White (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Ciate Topless (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, more muted (95% similar). Millennial is a light-medium, peachy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture feels very silky and finely-milled, but it does kick up excess product–it just doesn’t look powdery on the skin and blends out nicely in practice. It had good pigmentation and lasted for eight hours when I tested it. NABLA Cosmetics Bonjour (PiP, $8.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). MAC Demitasse (LE, $17.00) is cooler (95% similar). The Strip is a pinky-mauve with warm undertones and copper flecks of sparkle over a metallic sheen. The sparkle falls out primarily during application, as they sit loosely with the color, but there were a few stray sparkles that I noticed while wearing the color. It had decent color payoff, but it could have been richer.

Follow Me is a medium, violet purple with subtle, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had so-so pigmentation with a firmer consistency compared to other shades, which made it a little harder to blend and even out on the skin. I think a primer would be a must with this one, to help it adhere better and intensify. It lasted for seven hours before fading on me. Double Tap is a medium-dark burgundyb rown with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. There is a tiny amount of micro-shimmer in this, but it doesn’t translate visually on the eye–it looks like a matte finish on. It had semi-opaque color coverage and was buildable with two to three layers for truer-to-pan color. The texture was a little powdery and thin, but it was workable. On me, it lasted for seven and a half hours. Too Faced Chocolate Donut (LE, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). LORAC Cabernet (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Golden Nugget is a light-medium, yellow gold with larger gold flecks of sparkle. It had decent color payoff, but the texture was looser and felt almost chunky as the sparkles and shimmer separated from the base powder. It was messy to apply and tended to look patchy applied, so this is another shade where primer would really help. Make Up For Ever D410 Gold Nugget (DC, $21.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). bareMinerals Remix (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). All of the colors are pretty, and I think they did the Vegas theme well (packaging, names, glamour dust) but I feel this is mostly neutral shadows with 1 purple thrown in. I’m ready for more color, so will save money for other fall/holiday palettes.

These are my kind of brownish shades, and it would appear that those are this palette’s strong players! For me, it’s in trying to figure out whether to grab this one up, or make another MAC quad with Bamboo, Rule, Red Brick and Deep Damson, or Visart Deep Mattes ( but with the headache of going through 2nd party international shipping!) Not the easiest decision!

Overall, I’m not impressed. There are so many good quality shadows on the market right now, I just can’t see how they put out a palette with several average to poor performing shades.

I really like the color scheme here and it didbetter than I expected. A primer would help a lot of the shadows it seems. I totally hat the mascaraand the loose shimmer probably would not get used either. I love the eye look and I could probably dupe it across different palettes. But, I’m considering trying it with my 20% Ulta coupon and I have $6 in points.

Oh, so sorry on the typos! Well, apparently that Ulta coupon was not the one you can use on “prestige” brands. I wound up picking this up along with some clinique and Neutrogena stuff for my daughter. Just checked my receipt and only the Neutrogena for discounted.

Nicole Avatar

I will! As soon as I saw the receipt , I planned to return it because the mascara and loose shimmer are useless for me. So,Im feeling $45 is a little high for the pallette alone. It does stack up higher than most recent TF palletes IMO. I have it, so I’m forced to check it out now.

I think this super cute but I feel like I have each shade peppered within other palettes I own…while I would love to support the collaboration I think I will pass!

Very pretty eye look!

I’m loving my palette. I agree with the overall grade. For me, fallout is the biggest issue with this palette, though not excessive enough to warrant a return. I use primer, treat the finicky shades like loose pigments, and tap off my brush.

The worst is The Strip (a sticky base or glitter glue primer is a must with this one). I would grade Follow Me as an “A-“, as for me it had excellent pigmentation, even without primer. I would have rated Golden Nugget a “B,” as it has some fallout, but I didn’t really find the glitter chunky or hard to work with. It works best for me over Color Tattoo in Gold Rush or Bold Gold, or a glitter glue primer. I think it’s a stunning lid shade, or inner corner highlight. Nude Beam is beautiful, but it definitely needs glitter glue, like you said.

I’ve worn #Selfie, Pink Pearl and The Strip on my eyes. I’m fair enough they do all look different. I wish The Strip was a little darker in color, but I still think it’s a lovely lid shade.

Hi Rachel, I picked this up last night. I’m contemplating returning because I’m not sure how much use I will get out of it .I have a hard time figuring out shimmer. But, I really like your ideas. I had it boxed up to go back. But, I’m going to play first now that I have it or at least look good and hard for quality dupes because really like the palette. I was thinking I wouldn’t use the loose color, “Nude Beam” at all for a couple of reasons. I really don’t know how to use them honestly or where place something so sparkly. You seem to be pretty proficient with this palette. Any tips to share for the loose shadow?

Hi, Nicole! Please don’t be scared by my wall of text. It’s actually not too complicated to do, but I wanted to describe it right. I hope this helps.

1) I like to use a glitter glue primer for shimmer. I just use e.l.f. Essential Glitter Primer because it’s cheap and works great. I put a thin, even coat over the lid, or just in the center of the lid, on the inner corners — wherever I want the sparkle. I wait till the primer gets really tacky, about 20 seconds or so.

2) While the primer is getting tacky, I tap a small amount of the powder into the jar lid. It doesn’t take much. I use a flat but dense brush in a size appropriate for the area to which I’m applying the powder. I press the side of the brush into the powder, using small circular motions. Don’t work it too deep into the bristles, though. The powder should cling to surface, but come off easily when pressed against the glue primer. Lightly tap the excess of the brush.

3) Gently press the powder where you want it. Don’t blend or sweep, just press. If you want the shimmer more diffused, try lightly tapping over the edges with your ring finger.

4) I like to follow up with a setting or fixing spray for more security because I have oily lids and watery allergy eyes. I use e.l.f. Mist & Set (again, cheap and it works).

Note: On the pan shadows, if the fallout annoys you but you want to keep them, try treating them like loose shadows. Try using denser brushes (not fluffy ones) and the little circular motions to pick up the shadow and tap off the excess before applying. I tap the excess back onto the pan and pick it back up if I need more.

Hey Rachel, It’s so funny this just came through. I was just sitting here looking at he Stardust palette and trying to decide AGAIN if I am going to keep it or not. I was thinking I wouldn’t use so much of the “extras”. I think the shimmer can be scary and I was having issues with the glitter primer over my entire eyelid. I feel like it makes it tough to blend all the other shadows, particularly above the crease. So, I will certainly try spot-placing. So glad you posted this very helpful response! Thanks so much! 🙂

I got this palette the other day and have been loving it the last few days. I’m surprised by some of the “C’s”, but I do use primer most days. I agree that the strip could be more vibrant, but follow me is one of the better purples I’ve ever used. I was worried this palette would overlap too much with the chocolate bars, but there’s enough difference for me to justify having it! 🙂

I’m surprised some of these got such low ratings. Too Faced shadows seem to be consistently good in my experience. Probably one of my favorite brands for shadow.

I really like some of their eyeshadows, but there are some that I don’t like. I find that TF’s formula is one that typically doesn’t perform so well over bare skin (which is how I test), so if you normally use a primer, that could be why 🙂

First, I love your posts and how detailed you are, so thank you. I have this palette, but I haven’t been overly impressed with it. I was thinking of returning it and getting the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar (I already have the Chocolate Bar). I was just wondering what your thoughts were between the two palettes and if it would be better or if I should just invest in something else? Thanks!

I am planning on getting my first ever Too Faced Palette! I really love this palette but I’m torn between Chocolate Bar Palette and this LE palette. Which would you recommend, Christine? Thanks in advance for taking the time out to reply!
