The Best & Worst of Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipsticks

Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick

Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.03 oz.) is new formula that is available in 32 shades (two are exclusive to Hourglass’ website and are not included below). The formula is supposed to have “creamy, saturated, longwearing color with a satin finish.” It’s a light-medium thick formula that was typically opaque with a lightly creamy texture that glided on without tugging but did not slide around while worn. The majority of shades had a natural to satin finish, and they lasted anywhere from four to seven hours with light hydration. The best performing shades were light to dark while the lightest and deepest shades weren’t quite as consistent.

The lipstick can be purchased with the full packaging/applicator for $34 or as a refill-only for $22. The refill packaging is substantial enough that it is usable on its own, as there’s a detachable base that the refillable cap clicks onto (with an audible click), but they are very slim–and that’s not a surprise given they only contain 0.03 oz. making them one of the smaller lipsticks on the market. Slim lipsticks typically contain around 0.07 oz. of product and are usually smaller than the average standard lipstick tube (which tends to be between 0.10 and 0.12 oz.).

At first glance, I thought it was a picture of a warped comb!!!

How many of these lipsticks do I want? Most of them! How many of these lipsticks will I buy? Well, my wallet says none, but I may override it and buy one, although narrowing it down to just one shade won’t be easy.

I also thought it was a comb:). These look so pretty..it is hard to narrow down. But I know i can write off several colors that don’t pair well me…so that is step one. Lol

Yeah to everyone Please save your money, the formula is great but these things are SUPER tiny. Despite the pretty shades and formula, you would run out in under a month wear with these.

They are smaller than Colour pops lippies Stixs and those guys are slim. lol

I’d say only try one if there is a sale…. Because at this price point you’re going to run out quickly compared to a full-size NARS Audacious lipstick in the same price range. T-T

I purchased “If only” before any of your reviews were published. After reading the mostly positive reviews, I had considered purchasing a second one. I thought that maybe I had gotten one from a “bad batch” or something I much prefer a voluptuous bullet style to this scrawny one, and not even its elegant case will save it (from banishment to the bottom of my make up drawer.)
I really tried to like it for a month at least. I kept it in my handbag, even warmed it a bit in the sun, but it never got creamier or smoother to apply. Pat McGrath’s Matte Trance are much more comfortable to wear IMO.

On second thought, I might save my money. I like mattes, but not when they’re so difficult to put on. And such a small amount for so much money. Too bad, there are some very pretty colors here.

They really hit this collection out of the park – most A’s, only two B’s and even those are B+. Color selections and finishes are fantastic. What a shame they priced it out of a lot customers price range. If the price was more reasonable I could see many picking up a few colors, instead of just one.
PS – I also thought it was a picture of a comb!! lol

Beautiful Christine! I love that the one that is called “my favorite” was at the top of your list ? I am definitely going to go swatch these on my hand as soon as possible! Some of the shades are stunning ? Would you be able to recommend any specific ones in particular for someone with light skin, Ivory/porcelain? Thank you

They’re formulated without a lot of preservatives (the ingredient list one of the shortest I’ve seen), so it’s probably better that there isn’t a lot of product. I haven’t been able to swatch them yet, but I probably will buy at least one. I’d rather have one or two expensive, great-quality lipsticks than a drawer full of cheap, mediocre ones.

I just can’t get past the lack of value. The amount in these things is minuscule and I am trying to be more mindful about waste and this seems so…terribly wasteful. For $34, no less.

Honestly, there wasn’t a single dud for me amongst these. Yeah, they were pricey but I bought 12 and they’re all fantastic. Choosing favourites is more a case of choosing the ones I adore and the onss I just love. I Crave is a perfect red on me. I’ve Been is absolutely gorgeous as is If Only and I’ve Kissed. I really like I’m Addicted too.

I Want and You Can Find Me were my ‘least favourites’ so it’s interesting to see the variations between my list and Christine’s. I found You Can Find Me the least smooth and the least moisturising out more of my picks. I Want is probably lovely on some people, blah on others.. We both seem to agree on I Woke Up lol – def an A-/B+ shade! I think it’s a great name but it’s basically the same colour as my lips – MLMALBB at most. (‘My lips maybe a little bit better’ – har har har).

Now I’m rather curious about those two ‘exclusive’ shades….hmmm. I Dream and I Love look right up my alley! Maybe for science?

Oh, one question for you may Christine! I didn’t notice it at first but as I accumulated more shades, I realised that the only way to make out the name was by actually opening up the lipstick. I guess it would have been unelegant to put the shade name on the beautiful packaging. Lol. It is pretty annoying having to uncap them, and although I know the idea was for people to use them interchangeably with the refills…..one look at the diagram that comes with the packaging made that seem pretty laughable to me, it’s like a DIY manual!

Thank you for reviewing all of these, Christine. Immensely helpful as always 🙂

These still torture me especially with new TF Boys (and girls) coming out. I’m liking the finish on these better. I have a question, Christine, which you have probably already answered but I’ve missed it in my attempt to ignore the posts. $22 for .03 is much more palatable than $34 (with holder)
Can you own multiple refills in this formula and purchase a single holder without jeopardizing the integrity of the lipstick. So, are the single refills able to stand up to the test of swapping out lipstick shade in the holder. Is the holder meant to semi-permanently grab onto the refill and thereby make it difficult to switch out?

Thank you!

Christine Avatar

I found it really easy to switch out the shades but felt like they sat in the holder well, too – it wasn’t like I was worried about the refill popping out of the holder but was easily able to rotate between them as well. I only had two holders, and for photographing, I just used one holder, put a refill in it, took the refill out, and popped in the next shade – and on and so forth for all the shades!

Hey Christine,

I see swatches of I Dream on here but don’t see that color listed anywhere for sale at any of the sites that sells Hourglass. Was this just a temporary color released, is it not out yet or am I just having a hard time finding it?

Thanks!
