Hourglass Valentine’s Day 2019 Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick Set ($72.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a new, limited edition duo of two full-sized Confession Lipsticks (and yes, they really are 0.03 oz.), and each comes with a gold cap (they’re not just refills). Both shades had good pigmentation, were comfortable to apply and to wear, and lasted for five hours on me while having a lightly hydrating formula. Confession Lipsticks retail for $36 for a full-sized lipstick + packaging ($22 for refill only), so the set is worth exactly $72!

All of Me
All of Me is a rich, medium-dark pink-coral with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation–very, very slight translucency along my upper and lower edges of my lips–with a smooth, creamy consistency that hugged my lips without feeling clingy. The lipstick felt lightweight and didn’t seem slippery, though a bit of product sat in my lip lines; it was, thankfully, unnoticeable from a normal viewing distance. It wore well for five hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have "creamy, saturated, longwearing color with a satin finish." It's a light-medium thick formula that was typically opaque with a lightly creamy texture that glided on without tugging but did not slide around while worn. The majority of shades had a natural to satin finish, and they lasted anywhere from four to seven hours with light hydration. The best performing shades were light to dark while the lightest and deepest shades weren't quite as consistent.
The lipstick can be purchased with the full packaging/applicator for $34 or as a refill-only for $22. The refill packaging is substantial enough that it is usable on its own, as there's a detachable base that the refillable cap clicks onto (with an audible click), but they are very slim--and that's not a surprise given they only contain 0.03 oz. making them one of the smaller lipsticks on the market. Slim lipsticks typically contain around 0.07 oz. of product and are usually smaller than the average standard lipstick tube (which tends to be between 0.10 and 0.12 oz.).

Loves All of You is slightly muted, medium-dark copper with warm, balanced red and orange undertones and a satin finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, which adhered evenly and smoothly across my lips without emphasizing my lip lines. It had a lightweight, creamy consistency that glided easily over my lips but never felt slippery. This shade stayed on well for five hours and was moisturizing while worn.

I wonder if they kicked John Legend a few dollars, lol. But these are really pretty shades. I’m very tempted by this because I really love the formula, but I have dupes for Loves All of You, so I don’t necessarily need it, but I really like it and I really love this song. Decisions, decisions.
Honestly, I don’t care how beautiful these shades are (and they are very beautiful) or how pretty the packaging is (and it is very pretty), but $72 for .06 oz of lipstick is just ridiculous. (Sorry if that came off harsh, but that’s my first impression when I saw this post.)
Nope, not harsh (certainly not any more harsh than this price-tag). I feel much the same.
Of COURSE the VD special edition is at the same price as two regular Confessions. What was I thinking? HG does some decent product, but certainly never even shave a tad off their premium pricing, especially on their specials. Haven’t they read the backlash? I say no, just on principle. And I know some readers are saying, surprised it isn’t 75$!
I expect that the way they view their pricing is like Tom Ford; the pricing is set, it’s not about packing in value–it’s about luxury products at a luxury price point.
I agree that Hourglass has never been known for value in their sets, however I think their pricing for their Confession Lipstick sets have been all over the map. This one shaves nothing off the price, but the past holiday sets have varying levels of savings. Having bought one of the sets this past holiday season, by comparison this pricing makes me pause as a consumer. I think they’ll have a better case if they’re more consistent.
Yes, I purchased their Holiday lipstick set , I actually got both pink sets from this past Christmas and you did get a discount or ‘deal” in the pricing, I was actually shocked to see this set was full price . The 3 piece set was $74 can and included 2 lipsticks with the full packaging and a refill, each confession lipstick with packaging is $44 can, so that was a steal for hourglass. So dissapointed there is no deal this time
I suppose you’re right. They position themselves as the leading cruelty free luxury brand. Founded in 2004, they debuted at Barney’s. IIRC, in Boston, it was at Louis slightly before that. Louis made Barney’s look positively plebeian. RIP, Louis. Somehow, I never put them in the same class as TF or Lutens.

Beautiful shades that are named after a song that I love….but at $72 for a total of just a measly .06, I’m going to have to say no way.

I really like Loves All of Me – but I think I prefer MAC Chilli better. These lipsticks are so very expensive and thank goodness for the dupe list so we can purchase similar shade much more cheaply.

Even more in Canadian, they have some pretty shades but the amount of product in these is not a value at all. You’re paying the premium for these for sure even without the luxe outside packaging. lol

I mean since they are refillable, make the refills way less expensive at least. 😉 I think the packaging is great for those of use with smaller lips and allows you to draw in the lipline first in general.
