Hourglass I Cherish/You Inspire Confession Lipstick Duo Review & Swatches
I Cherish/You Inspire
Hourglass I Cherish/You Inspire Confession Lipstick Duo ($36.00 for 0.06 oz.) includes one lipstick holder and two full-sized lipsticks (the first image shows two holders, but I used the holder from the other duo available as my second holder). Hourglass’ Confession lipsticks are some of the most expensive (by the ounce) on the market, and while Hourglass is not a brand known for their value-packed holiday offerings, this duo is. Normally, a full-sized lipstick (with holder) retails for $36, while a refill-only retails for $22, so there’s a $58 value here!
If you’re someone who doesn’t mind slightly less than full coverage or often pairs their lip color with a lip liner, the duo could be a nice find. The lighter shade was a bit under-pigmented (compared to how it was marketed), while the deeper shade was a bit slippery, so a liner would improve the application.

I Cherish
I Cherish is a medium peach with warmer undertones and a natural sheen. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that glided easily across my lips but didn’t feel overly emollient while worn. There was a touch of product that sank into my deeper lip lines, but it wasn’t enough to be noticeable in person. It wore well for four and a half hours and was hydrating while worn.

Formula Overview
$34.00/0.03 oz. - $1133.33 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "creamy, saturated, longwearing color with a satin finish." It's a light-medium thick formula that was typically opaque with a lightly creamy texture that glided on without tugging but did not slide around while worn. The majority of shades had a natural to satin finish, and they lasted anywhere from four to seven hours with light hydration. The best performing shades were light to dark while the lightest and deepest shades weren't quite as consistent.
The lipstick can be purchased with the full packaging/applicator for $34 or as a refill-only for $22. The refill packaging is substantial enough that it is usable on its own, as there's a detachable base that the refillable cap clicks onto (with an audible click), but they are very slim--and that's not a surprise given they only contain 0.03 oz. making them one of the smaller lipsticks on the market. Slim lipsticks typically contain around 0.07 oz. of product and are usually smaller than the average standard lipstick tube (which tends to be between 0.10 and 0.12 oz.).

You Inspire
You Inspire is a deep burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a barley-there micro-shimmer that ran through the more cream-like finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly, but it didn’t seem to adhere as strongly nor as evenly along the inner area of my lips (most noticeable on my lower lip). The consistency was lightly emollient and felt a bit more slippery compared to other shades in the Confession range. I didn’t experience feathering or bleeding over the five and a half hours it lasted for but for someone who often experiences it (I don’t), the slip felt like it could result in that, and the formula felt moisturizing to me.

Not a terrible deal for this duo. The shades are definitely ones I tend to go for: nudes and deep, vampy shades. Yet, I still cannot get past the .03 per lipstick. Or the cigarette holder case, either. I just don’t know.
While You Inspire is right up my alley as far as shade goes, I have so many of these shades that I am going to pass. I don’t love the packaging of the Hourglass refillable tubes. Reminds me of the Louis Vuitton. They look more like weapons than lipstick.
I’m confused. Is the user expected to insert whichever lipstick color that he/she wants to wear that day? Or does the package consist of two of the same color with one holder? Either way, I don’t want to be handling a skinny lipstick myself.
FWIW, the holder looks like the old-fashioned cigarette holders once in use. The first thing I thought of was Phyllis Diller. ? That surely reveals my age!
You can use it in its refill packaging, but it is designed so you can either 1) refill when you run out (reuse the packaging, or 2) reduce your cost by purchasing refills and just have one holder and switch as you need to (e.g. if you want to take it with you in a purse).
normally i’d be all over this but i just can’t get over that ugly translucent packaging!
I really like You Inspire, but I am not so keen on the first shade. I think that this would be quite impractical to have in a handbag and wonder how easily the shades would hold up on a warmer day without breaking.
The Hourglass lipstick formula isn’t a favorite, or even on the like list for me, but I’m a sucker for packaging. However their switch to this ugly plastic for their holiday season while maintaining exorbitantly high price tags…yeah, no.
