Hourglass I Desire, I Crave, My Icon Is Confession Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
I Desire
Hourglass I Desire Confession Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.03 oz.) is a bright, medium orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. It was intensely pigmented with opaque color payoff in a single layer. The lipstick was smooth, lightweight, and creamy so it applied evenly across the lips and was comfortable to wear. It had good hold and stayed on well for almost six hours, while the formula was lightly hydrating while worn.
The formula is supposed to have “creamy, saturated, longwearing color with a satin finish.” It’s a light-medium thick formula that was typically opaque with a lightly creamy texture that glided on without tugging but did not slide around while worn. The majority of shades had a natural to satin finish, and they lasted anywhere from four to seven hours with light hydration. The best performing shades were light to dark while the lightest and deepest shades weren’t quite as consistent.
The lipstick can be purchased with the full packaging/applicator for $34 or as a refill-only for $22. The refill packaging is substantial enough that it is usable on its own, as there’s a detachable base that the refillable cap clicks onto (with an audible click), but they are very slim–and that’s not a surprise given they only contain 0.03 oz. making them one of the smaller lipsticks on the market. Slim lipsticks typically contain around 0.07 oz. of product and are usually smaller than the average standard lipstick tube (which tends to be between 0.10 and 0.12 oz.).

I Crave
Hourglass I Crave Confession Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.03 oz.) is a bright, medium red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation but was not quite as opaque as other shades in the range (there was more of my lip freckle peeking through). The texture had less slip but still was creamy enough to glide across the lips without tugging, and it felt lightweight and comfortable on the lips as well. This shade lasted for over six hours, left a slight stain behind, and was lightly hydrating.

My Icon Is
Hourglass My Icon Is Confession Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.03 oz.) is a medium-dark red with cool, blue undertones and a soft sheen. The texture was smooth, lightweight, and creamy enough that it spread easily across the lips but adhered evenly to the lips and did not slide around while worn. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, but my lip freckle was still visible. This shade lasted for over six hours, left a pinkish stain behind, and was lightly moisturizing.

The reds are so pretty! I really like ‘My Icon Is’! Such a pretty, deeper red!
They are!
This line looks soo good..but pricey!
I wish they crammed more product into the tubes!
I’m sure others have already brought this to your attention (there are no comments showing yet, though) but the letter grade rating for I Desire isn’t showing. There’s just a – where the letter grade should be.
I’m so sorry! It should be fixed now.
Hey, no need to apologize! And you are no idiot (your explanation to Emily) – this site is fabulous and your perfectionism shows through all the time. The occasional slip or oversight is to be expected. After all, even in 2017, they still put erasers on the end of pencils!
Ah, well, every mistake–whether slight or major–lives on forever on the internet 😉 No such thing as an eraser on the internet, though people will try!
Christine, thank you for posting the price per ounce for the various lipsticks. Am I the only one who is more than a bit alarmed at the prices, seeing them that way? $34 for a lipstick seems not to bad but to see that this lipstick actually costs $1,133 per OUNCE is a real eye opener for me (as are some of the other prices). For a product that ends up on my coffee cup or in my stomach….yikes!
Sure thing!
Mariella, I’m with you 110% on that! The $’s per oz. is nauseating for real. Thank goodness Christine posted the cost breakdown for these so that we can make an informed, eyes wide open, decision on them!
When Christine did similar for an Hourglass holiday face palette a few years ago, comparing the cost per ounce to the cost per ounce of their regular sized blushes, ambient light powders and bronzers, it was shocking how much they were overcharging at time when most other companies were (and still are) offering extra value with their Holiday palettes – $120 worth of product for $80, for example. Hourglass was doing the opposite and that’s when I decided to cease buying their products. I’ve slipped once only – for a Girl Stylo lip pencil. But it made me angry.
Beautiful! I absolutely love I Crave. I thought it would be more orangey but it’s really more neutral…a warm red. I think I need an orange now!
Btw, is there a reason I Desire wasn’t given a grade?
Hi Emily,
I’m an idiot, that’s the only reason! I forgot to put in the numbers.
You see anything BUT an idiot, Christine! Your reviews are the gold standard as far as I’m concerned and I know you work hard to get them up for us!
Every colour looks brilliant on you btw but I Crave is ?. It’s fantastic on you. I wore it yesterday and was amazed at the lasting power! No lip liner and it was still holding up well into the afternoon and had faded down to a beautiful red stain by the time I removed my makeup.
*’See’ = ‘are’. I’m the idiot clearly!
The colors and finish are stunning, wish they had given more product for the price!
I totally agree on all counts, Katherine!
What can I say? All 3 are stunning shades, but the price per quantity is sickening. I’ll stick with their GIRL Stylos instead. Those GS’s feel fantastic and super moisturizing while worn!
These look so good on you, I believe you can wear any color (I sadly, cannot).
Wow – those reds are so vibrant and pretty!
My Icon is very pretty!
Do you happen to know if these are meant to eventually replace the Femme Rouge Velvet Creme line? I really hope not. I’ve been wearing Raven and Icon in the traditional formula for years, and the packaging is far more practical for transport.
Sorry, Hourglass did not say!
