Sephora Editorial 2.0 PRO Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Editorial 2.0
Sephora Editorial 2 PRO Eyeshadow Palette ($68.00 for 1.12 oz.) is a new, permanent palette that features more muted or faded takes on pops of color with some neutrals mixed in.
I have not had great luck with Sephora’s formula in their 28-pan palettes like this one; I find it very dusty and on the thinner or drier side, so they are harder to work with on bare skin (without primer or with a dampened brush). They often sheer out, go on unevenly, and/or fade more quickly, and that carried through in this palette, too… except that this was the worst of all the Sephora PRO palettes I’ve tried.
You’d have to pay me to use this palette again; it’s not worth $0.68 let alone $68. The inconsistency in texture, pigmentation, and wear alone make it a total no-go, because who wants to decipher the perfect method of application across 28 shades? Some of them do not play well together because all they do is make the lid look like a desert due to how dry and dusty the formulas can be. I did not find that it was consistent with past experiences with the Sephora PRO formula either.
Products like this make it harder and harder to purchase from Sephora’s house brand, at least when it comes to eyeshadows. I can’t figure out how this made it to market in this form; so many shades were unworkable on their own, were barely workable over primer, and everything was so dry, dusty, and powdery. I had more eyeshadow underneath my eyes than on them each time I endured testing this travesty of a palette. Nothing says “worth it!” like dreading using it because you know you’re signing up for a dismal-at-best look (that took two to three times as long to do before I gave up fussing with it!). The two included looks are using some of the “best” performers in the palette, and for the blue look, all shimmers were applied with a wet brush.

Enchant
Enchant is a soft, yellowed peach with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was richly pigmented and had a smooth, almost cream-like feel that helped it adhere well to bare skin. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Potion
Potion is pale, whitish-peach with warm undertones and a sparkling sheen. The texture was thin, drier, and felt a bit chunky as the glitter came off the surface without a lot of base color, so it had semi-opaque pigmentation at most. This shade lasted well for six hours on me and had fallout over time.

Wizard
Wizard is a medium, faded gray with gold glitter. It had a drier, dusty texture that felt almost grainy to the touch. It had medium coverage, but most of the shimmer/sparkle disappeared when I blended out the shade, so it lost most of its nuance in practice. This shade lasted well for five hours on me before fading noticeably.

Cloak
Cloak is a muted, medium-dark mauve with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had medium coverage but was more powdery, which resulted in the product sheering out when blended. It had a tendency to adhere more strongly to certain areas, as it reacted with any natural oils (or, if you use a tacky base, this will be a bear to blend out) and appeared darker on them. This shade stayed on well for six and a half hours on me before fading visibly.

Magic
Magic is a medium pink with warm undertones and a glittery, frosted finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, which did not apply well on bare skin nor over primer; it had to be used with an adhesive spray or base to show up decently and not sheer out instantly. The texture was dry, almost sandy, and difficult to work with. This shade stayed on, at best, for four hours before most of it had faded, and there was also some fallout over time.

Fire
Fire is a medium-dark copper with warm undertones and a glitter finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, but it was difficult to get there without using it with a dampened brush or an adhesive base. The consistency was gritty, loosely-pressed, and drier, so there was a ton of fallout and poor application on its own. It stayed on for five hours before there was just too much fallout to contend with.

Charm
Charm is a light-medium, glittery blue. There did not seem to be much of a base color coming through, and the texture itself felt like loosely-packed glitter. It was a waste of time to use alone, as it didn’t adhere to the lid, fell and migrated everywhere, and may as well been an empty pan for all the use it had. This shade had to be used with a glitter glue to be worthwhile, and even then, it didn’t read particularly glittery on–lackluster no matter how I used it.

As much as I enjoy the two palettes I got from Sephora last year (Warm & Editorial), I wouldn’t buy another large palette from them again. I do agree that they definitely need a primer to make them work. These new palettes are gorgeous, but I have learned from last year, that their formula is just okay. I don’t regret my purchase of the two I have, but I wouldn’t do it again.
“You’d have to pay me to use this palette again; it’s not worth $0.68 let alone $68.” Oh man Christine, I love when your reviews are absolutely savage ? Kind of a bummer the palette was so terrible though, because I think the color scheme is actually really cool
“You’d have to pay me to use this palette again; it’s not worth $0.68 let alone $68.”
Yup, I’d have to say you nailed that on the head. The quality is all over the map. Mostly bad. I’m actually surprised that the blue/purple look turned out as well as it did! But that’s something I attribute to your makeup application skills and not to the palette, though.
… but tell us how you really feel Christine ?
Seriously though, your honesty is always so much appreciated!
OMG Christine, this is so awful. What an incredible waste of your time to review this insultingly bad offering from Sephora, who should know better. I think these large palettes have had their day, especially when they offer up such consistently poor shades.
Just love your honest reviews Christine.
I have stayed away from their large pro palette but I’ve teally enjoyed two of their holiday offerings this year: Star Catcher and Midnight Wishes. It’s too bad their house brand eyeshadows are so hit and miss. Maybe they use different manufactures for different palettes??
But you sure do make it look beauriful anyway, Christine. 🙂
Let’s face it though…28 pans is simply too much of anything to be standout, quality across-the-board, and cohesive.
Christine this was the read I needed tonight! Thanks! ?
“You’d have to pay me to use this palette again; it’s not worth $0.68 let alone $68:” That tell me all I need to know right their. Ugh…these must have been a nightmare to test. Thanks for saving us from the frustration.
I laughed SO hard. Brutally honest.
I see all the effort for the swatches and review vastly exceeds the commitment to quality. Honestly, it makes me nauseous.
What a disappointment and a shame! And this is hardly “small change” – $68 is pretty pricey. I’ve always had a soft spot for Sephora’s house brand. I just wish they would stop changing their products because they constantly – CONSTANTLY – discontinue really excellent products (skin care as well as colour cosmetics) and replace with sub-par stuff. Far better to keep the good (and there was lots that was good, including their sleeping mask, the old e/s formula, a “dropper” type foundation, quite a few of their makeup brushes – I could go on and on) and promote it better.
In the past, I can see why some do end up liking the Sephora formula, especially if they’re using primer or concealer etc… this one just had me at a total loss.
I thoroughly enjoyed the shade you threw (hehehe). The shade names with the worst marks have some of the most ironic names. “Magic”? More like mediocrity. “Sense”? How about none. And “Wish”, as in “Christine’s wish is to never have to put this sad palette on her eyeballs again”. Would you say this the worst palette of 2018? Would be nice to see a Worsts Lists, for kicks.
Definitely a contender for it! Honestly, I review so much that I forget a LOT of what I’ve covered in the year – like even really good stuff doesn’t come to mind as readily these days. I always do a worst products of 2018 list of the year, actually.
Oh! So looking forward!
This is why I’ve visit your blog daily because of frank reviews like this. THANK YOU!! 🙂
Your reviews are always so honest and straightforward. What a dismal offering from Sephora!
Tell it like it is, Christine. Now that song will play ear worm style; at least it’s a good one. This is a great example of why you need to read up, before considering anything. I love the muted nature and color story, and this could have been a major contender for a colorful palette. But, alas, totally suckworthy. Thanks.
That’s one thing about it — a much more interesting/unique color story, so it is a shame it isn’t decent!
Once upon a time (ten yearsish) I purchased a sephora eyeshadow and loved it. Loved it so much that it’s almost entirely used up and I wish I could replace it. But having swatched so many in store the new ones lack all creaminess and quality of the old one. It’s such a bummer because their house brand has some real winners – the cream lip stain for one (my favorite formula of all long wear lipsticks) – but man…they need to quit on the eyeshadow game.
How do you make such gorgeous eye looks with a palette that performs this poorly?! Respect!
If you note the shades used, they’re the better performers!
Oh my.! How unexpected and sad.
