MAC Modern Twist Kajal Liner ($17.00 for 0.01 oz.) is supposed to be an “easy-glide formula” with a “soft texture that’s perfect for rimming the sensitive waterline” that has “colour intensity and extreme depth” in a “long-wearing waterproof formula.” It’s a slim, twist-up eyeliner thas has light slip–not enough to slide around too easily but enough not to tug–with semi-opaque to mostly opaque coverage in one stroke. They felt creamier rather than waxy to me. On me, the formula wore between six and nine hours on me before noticeably thinning. None of them lasted for more than a few hours on the waterline, and some shades applied better/worse on the waterline. Some shades flaked while they wore, between four and six hours in (noted by the shade).

New Marine ($17.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as an “emerald green.” It’s a medium-dark, bluish-teal with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer coverage that was buildable to mostly opaque coverage after two to three layers. The consistency glided on easily without tugging on the lash line and deposited color fairly evenly. This shade flaked away as it wore down, rather than just fading away, with noticeable flakes after seven hours of wear on the lower lash line. It lasted for four and a half hours on the waterline. Make Up For Ever I32 Iridescent Lagoon Green (P, $21.00) is darker (95% similar). Makeup Geek Ocean (DC, $9.00) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). Moira Green (P, $5.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Tarina Tarantino Spark of Envy (DC, $15.00) is darker (90% similar). Sephora Waterfall (47) (P, $11.00) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Ody(sea) (62) (P, $26.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Vacancy (LE, $22.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Deep End (P, $22.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Lancome Paradis (P, $23.00)(90% similar). Urban Decay Deep End (P, $22.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Electric Empire (P, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). Make Up For Ever #52L (LE, $19.00) is darker (85% similar). Sephora Waterfall (DC, $10.00) is darker (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Gemstoned (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Nightcast ($17.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “grey muted plum.” It’s a muted, medium-dark purple with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in one pass, which didn’t built up much beyond that but seemed to darken and intensify slightly by layering. The color lasted for eight and a half hours on the lower lash line, five hours on the waterline. ColourPop No Shame (P, $7.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Ash Violet (DC, $16.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). ColourPop No Shame (P, $7.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Bishop Blue (P, $17.00) is cooler (80% similar). Ocean Liner ($17.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “deep blue.” It’s a dark, navy blue with cool undertones and a subtle, pearl sheen. The consistency wasn’t too waxy or too creamy, and the eyeliner glided on without tugging on the skin, even though it didn’t have great color payoff in one stroke. It was buildable to fuller coverage, but it was hard to get fully opaque coverage. It lasted for five hours on the waterline and eight hours on the lower lash line, but it started to flake after six hours of wear. Buxom Pick Me Up (P, $17.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Sephora Midnight Blue (DC, $10.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Sudsy (LE, $17.00) is more shimmery, brighter (90% similar). MAC Blue Stripe (LE, $16.00) is darker (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty (Wave)length (68) (P, $26.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Goddess (PiP, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Lethal Cosmetics Spectre (LE, $15.50) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

These are some of the saddest eye liner swatches I’ve seen in a while 🙁 They look so faded to begin with, I can’t imagine any of them lasting for more than a couple of hours on my oily lids, even with primer. Drugstore liners look waaaay better than this and are much cheaper. If I was in charge of MAC, heads would be rolling

So so sad. These three were the shades I was most interested in. I don’t deal with flaking at all so marine is definitely out. Nightcast had so much promise as a color, but that swatch! If it looks that faded upon fresh application I can’t imagine how it would look after an hour or so. Thank you as always for the review!
