MAC Ascent of Glamour Colourdrenched Pigment
MAC Colourdrenched Pigment ($22.00 for 0.065 oz.) is a new, limited edition eyeshadow formula. I don’t know if it makes any specific claims, but I’ve used it both wet and dry and find that four of the five shades below really don’t need damp application. They have a very dense, almost cream-like consistency (think products like Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows in the shimmery finishes, Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow, etc.) that go on smoothly. These deeper shades seemed to be a little harder to blend, particularly with the shades here, but they seemed easier to work with when paired with regular MAC eyeshadows. The wear time varied between six and eight hours before I noted creasing.
MAC Ascent of Glamour Colourdrenched Pigment ($22.00 for 0.065 oz.) is described as a “cobalt violet-blue.” It’s a, medium-dark violet purple with cool undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good color payoff applied dry and was slightly richer and more opaque applied damp. The texture is dense and smooth, but it is so thick that it seems almost like a cream eyeshadow when you initially apply it. The color adhered well to the skin, but the blending was where it seemed harder to really diffuse and soften the color into the next. I noticed slight creasing after seven and a half hours of wear. Sleek MakeUP Simbad's Seas (LE, $9.99) is darker (95% similar). Natasha Denona Blue Dahlia (181DC) (LE, $29.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Moon is Blue Colourdrenched Pigment ($22.00 for 0.065 oz.) is described as a “royal blue.” It’s a rich, medium-dark blue with cool undertones and a metallic sheen. It was intensely pigmented and very, very dense and cream-like, even though it seems like a powder eyeshadow. It goes on smoothly and evenly with good coverage, but the edges seem to be harder to blend out to a really soft, diffused edge as the product adheres so well. On me, it started to crease after seven and a half hours of wear. Natasha Denona Tiger Lily (LE, $29.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Dark Seas (P, $14.00) is more muted (95% similar). MAC Night Thrill Colourdrenched Pigment ($22.00 for 0.065 oz.) is described as a “gold shimmer.” It’s a light-medium, yellow gold with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. This one had a much drier consistency compared to the other four, and it was the only shade that had to be used damp to get it to apply decently, as it would adhere more smoothly and have greater payoff. It wore for six and a half hours with fall out. ColourPop Fringe (P, $6.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Gucci Beauty Antique Gold (DC, $37.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Gold Dipped (LE, $16.00) is darker (90% similar). Chanel Rêve d'Orient #3 (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). Make Up For Ever ME512 Golden Beige (DC, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC No Taboos Colourdrenched Pigment ($22.00 for 0.065 oz.) is described as a “blackened blue.” It’s a deep black with lighter navy blue shimmer paired with a frosted finish. It had good color payoff with a very smooth, cream-like texture. It could have blended more readily, though it wasn’t overly hard to work with. It lasted for eight hours on me. MAC Space (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Dior Reveuse (271) (2016) (LE, $31.00) is lighter (95% similar). Make Up For Ever ME224 Navy Blue (DC, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Night Sky (Cream) (LE, $45.00) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Too Faced Bluebird (PiP, $16.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Tonight is the Night Colourdrenched Pigment ($22.00 for 0.065 oz.) is described as a “deep blackened teal.” It’s a deep, dark teal with cooler undertones and a subtle green tinge paired with a frosted finish. It had great color payoff, and it actually seemed better dry than damp. The texture was soft, smooth, and dense, and it applied well to the skin without losing its intensity, but the thicker consistency seemed to make blending and diffusing the edges harder. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours on me. bareMinerals Deep Sea (LE, $14.00) is more muted (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty For Once (PiP, ) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Dior Denim #4 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, more muted (90% similar). Estee Lauder Charred Emerald (LE, $45.00) is more muted (90% similar). I really like the look of these! The blue and the black in particular! The purple is nice too but I have way too many purple eyeshadows. Love the eye look you created, Christine!
Thank you, Agata!
Oh wow these really look amazing!
They are pretty intense!
These look really nice, with the exception of Night Thrill. But, the blending issues certainly brings some concern into mind. If I needed to try one out, based on what the review and the colors above I’m going for Tonight’s the Night.
Something to do with the thickness, I think!
That is a bummer because they are gorgeous. But you think they will work blended with regular shadows? If not, with all the goodies out there, I gotta leave ’em. But, wow are they pretty!
Yes, with regular MAC eyeshadows, for example, they are easier to work with as the softer powders layer nicely over (and blend over the edges etc.).
Great! Thanks!
Wow, they’re real stunners! Ascent of Glamour is my kind of blurple, and I’m completely mesmerized by the depth of Tonight’s the Night. Well done MAC! Fingers crossed that the gift set are good too this year 😀
I love how cool-toned Ascent of Glamour is!
OMG, look at the pigmentation on these! Crazy! I’m eyeing the purple, blue, and teal. Well, shadows that “adhere well” are music to my ears, because I have oily lids. ds. Because I usually have to load up on eye primer/cream bases anyway, I run into blending issues all the time, so I try to use a light hand, and blend with a softer color around the edges. But if it doesn’t blend, hey just go with the bold eye look!
I hope you can get them to work really well 😀
Hmm there really expensive for a regular size pan shadows. I was interested in Tonight is the Night but for $26.50CAN…. not so much. At least with MUFE and Kat Von D you get a large pan for the price range. 😉
That is a good point!
How weird that the gold is the shade that didn’t turn out so good. The rest look incredible. Moon Is Blue and Tonight’s the Night are absolutely stunning.
It was the first I swatched, and I was like, “Oh, maybe these are wet/dry…” but then the others were like WHOA!
The swatches look very pigmented. I’ve gotten spoiled with eyeshadow palettes and rarely buy singles anymore unless they are really special.
Singles get so $$!
Even though these aren’t “A’s” I still want them all! They look gorgeous.
They are very rich!
Wow they are gorgeous! I’ll have to get at least one!
Which one are you leaning towards?
Ooh, hard question, ha! All the cool ones, maybe Ascent of Glamour, since I don’t have a purple glittery one, or maybe the blue or teal one, they are so strong! I’ll have to see in person, but even then I suspect I still won’t find it easy!
Woo! Tonight’s the Night is intense. I’m definitely considering it. Are these the same size as regular MAC shadows?
Physically, yes, but the pans actually contain a little more (they seemed quite dense, so that might be why).
I like how all these turned out. I wish I went for bolder looks, I might consider them!
You should try them 😀
OMG….jaw hanging open. Ascent Of Glamour, Tonight’s The Night and Moon Is Blue have just reeled me in and I have to buy at least two of these beauties! And I love No Taboos as well!
And Christine, that eye look you did using these is bangin’! I really love the darker shade in the inner corner, have been doing that lately myself because it gives my eyes more dimension.
Aw, thanks a lot, Nancy!
Okay, so maybe these are dupable, but give me all of the jewel tones, products and packaging alike.
lol! I love jewel tones, too!
That last one seems pretty unique and lovely!
It is a pretty one!
Tonight’s the Night looks amazing! Why oh why oh WHY can’t I wear teal???
Awww!
Tonight’s the Night is SO beautiful. If I don’t get anything else from this collection, I will definitely get THAT ONE!
Good pick 🙂
The blue and purple are so pretty! For the price, I’d probably get more mufe shadows though.
You do get more with MUFE, too!
Moon is Blue is stunning! I don’t usually grab shadow singles but I may have to add this one to my list. The color and shimmer are insane
All but the gold are so intense!
Are they out yet?
Not yet! http://www.temptalia.com/mac-magic-of-the-night-collection-for-holiday-2015
I love the eye look! So pretty! Ascent of Glamour is my favorite.
Thanks, Valerie!
I like that blue!
Me too!
I don’t think I’ve ever wanted eye shadows this badly in my life, they are so beautiful!!!
Do you think you’ll get all of them, Lolly?
All of these except the Gold one look amazing swatched.I haven’t been buying a lot of MAC lately. The last things I purchased was the Dazzleshadows and 2 of the Electric Cool shadows.I will be buying these!
I love the look of Moon is Blue in the pan, but it seems to lose something in application. Not that it looks bad, it’s just not quite the same.
Nice to see some LE formulation from MAC that performs well, I know new formulas from them are hit or miss sometimes.
Just in time! I was kind of bummed because I don’t have any dupe for Blue Quartz in the new Lorac palette, but this blue is so much better! I’ll probably grab the teal shade as well.
Oh! That blue is gorgeous!
Ugh I loooooooooooooove these colors, oh my gosh! They’re so rich and mesmerizing! <3
OMG, Moon is Blue!!!
I like most of these, all, infact, except Night Thrill, I like it, I mean, a gold is always a gold, and I like gold 🙂
Not sure I’ll get any of them with so much coming from what seems to be every brand, but I sure would like at least one, or two. I love the intesity and the rich colours.
I love everything but the gold one. No Taboos is the front-runner, though – I recently got a blue-black eyeliner (Lise Watier) and they would look awesome together!
If MAC was a cruelty free company, I think I’d splurge on every one of these! Looks like I’ll be on a serious dupe hunt for these shades. 🙂
I have the Moon is Blue love the color but is is hard to blend. I tried to blend with Mac Interupted and it’s turned the transition to a green color. ?
What brush have you tried using, Diana?
