Huda Beauty New Nudes Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
New Nudes
Huda Beauty New Nudes Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.59 oz.) is a solid offering for those who like their pinks and berries with pops of shimmer. I think that the mattes are blendable and easy to work with, even though some of them have more buildable coverage (not “highly-pigmented” as described), and they were very functional. I did long for a deeper, richer, more contrasting matte shade to get more depth and definition out of the color story. While the glitter shades worked better than anticipated, I think if they had included one deeper matte and another shimmer, it would be a more functional, higher quality palette overall.
As an aside, I’m not reviewing/rating the concealer base as it doesn’t quite align with the color rating system used on the palette and the rest of the shades, so I’ll leave my brief thoughts here: it’s a sheerer, thinner concealer with a more emollient base in a pale, yellowish beige shade. It worked decently with the eyeshadows in the palette, but depending on your need for coverage, coloring, and so forth, it may be too sheer and/or too light to work well. I would have rather the brand include another eyeshadow and include a concealer sample with the palette (like how some companies include a travel-sized eyeshadow primer).

Bare
Bare is a soft, pinky-peach with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that had some product drop as I applied it to my brow bone, so I had to be very careful with it to avoid turning deeper shades a bit ashy. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Crave
Crave is a soft, golden copper with warm undertones and flecks of pink and gold sparkle paired with a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation with a smooth, denser consistency that was lightly creamy and picked up well onto a brush. The eyeshadow applied well to bare skin and blended out with little effort. It had the impact of a dampened, metallic eyeshadow without the need to dampen one’s brush. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me before I detected faint creasing.

Play
Play is a light-medium, peachy orange with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out easily along the edges. The eyeshadow was soft and finely-milled with a smidgen of powderiness in the pan, but it didn’t have fallout issues when applied. It lasted well for seven and a hal fhours on me before fading slightly.

Fantasy
Fantasy is a medium, reddened plum with warmer undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that applied evenly to bare skin with pressing and gentle pushing motions using a flat brush. The texture was denser and lightly creamy, so it had enough slip to work with brushes but did seem to apply a bit more smoothly using fingertips. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Love Bite
Love Bite is a deep berry with subtle, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. There were very fine shimmers strewn through the powder, but they weren’t detectable on the eye as it appeared to function like a matte finish in practice. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage with a moderately powdery texture. There was slight fallout when I applied it to bare skin, even after I tapped away some of the excess. It stayed on nicely for just over eight hours before it started to fade on me.

Spanked
Spanked is a medium-dark berry with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, and the eyeshadow applied evenly to bare skin without losing its intensity too readily. Lace
Lace is a soft, pinky lavender with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, silky consistency that was lightly powdery in the pan but had next to none in the way of fallout during application. Daydream
Daydream is a medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied well to bare skin with a dry brush. The consistency was lightly creamy with a denser, thicker feel in the pan, so I was impressed by how well it applied to the lid using a packing brush (pressing and gentle pushing motions), though I did find that this one was more blendable if I used a dampened brush or my fingertips. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before it started to crease on me.

There were barely-there gold micro-shimmers that I could see in the swatch but did not seem to do much on the lid, as it looked like a matte finish. Excite
Excite is a medium-dark, warm red micro-glitter suspended in a transparent base. The brand recommended to apply it using their just-released “Fender Blender” brush or a “flat, dense brush,” so I used the latter. I would say that while it beat out my expectations (which were admittedly low), it would still work best with fingertips and/or an adhesive base or spray to help it apply evenly and adhere better over the day. For lightly patting on top of an existing shade, it was easy enough to use with fingertips, but I felt like brushes tended to trap the glitters between the bristles unless I really packed the product onto my brush (and then it was too much for layering). There wasn’t much fallout during application, though. It lasted for five and a half hours before there was noticeable fallout.

Infatuated
Infatuated is a deeper mix of plum, copper, and pink glitter with a transparent base. It had more medium “coverage” when applied with a flat, dense brush and more opaque coverage if applied with fingertips over an adhesive base. The texture was soft, almost gel-like but still drier overall and lacked the wetness of a true gel formula. It had decent adherence to bare skin, and while it was better than pure, loose glitter, it would be highly advisable to pair with an adhesive base or spray to minimize fallout over time (it took about five and a half hours before that was a noticeable amount of fallout).

Kinky
Kinky is a medium, reddened plum with warm, copper undertones and a pearly sheen. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer, while the eyeshadow had a thinner, more slippery consistency that didn’t adhere as evenly to my lid as I anticipated, as I found it harder to diffuse without losing intensity. It lasted well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Charmed is a deep, reddish-brown with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency was denser, lightly creamy, and thicker when applied, but it picked up with a brush and applied more evenly and maintained the rich coverage than anticipated. *Lets out a giant sigh of relief and joy*
Now that it’s official from both your review and also Katherine T. ‘s FFHF comments on this, I feel 100% free to get these gorgeous shades on my own lids! It looks to be a fabulous one for all the green and hazel eyed folks who may have been waiting for something like this to come along. UD Naked Cherry didn’t quite measure up. And most others ran too warm. I definitely agree with you about the Concealer shade as well as the inclusion of 2 glitter shades. I would have rather seen a very deep brown-plum or black-plum matte instead of Excite. Although, I kinda love the look of the other glitter, Infatuate. ?
Thank you so very much for posting this today even with this whole week being a waiting game for all the Black Friday/ Cyber Monday deals to either get revealed or to go live! It’s been an incredibly crazy busy week for you, I’m sure!
Yeah, it’s been crazy! A lot of the deals get scheduled, so I don’t have to be here all the time to push them live, but they come in at all hours and get revised before they go live… feel like I spend 2-3 hours a day just updating/adding/going over the list, lol.
Nancy, I couldn’t wait to get this! Us green/hazel eyed ladies seem to go for purples, mauves and greens at least I sure do. I was so curious about the marbled looking colors and they are more stunning in person. As Christine’s review shows, they perform pretty darned well, too. I was a bit surprised about the two glitters as well. They do stick on their own, I’ve only swatched them so far. I think they are starting to figure out how to make actual glitter stick and not stay tacky. NYX has a few 4 shade paltettes at Ulta that not realizing they were glitters, not foils grabbed a couple. I generally only use pure glitter on the inner corner unless it’s a night out. I probably picked this up with one of the 3 Rouge 20% off sales. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one.
Nancy, I told a fellow makeup lover this palette is what Naked 3 wanted to be but wasn’t. I love it and have used it non-stop since I picked it up at the beginning of the month. Almost brought it on vacation with me but stopped myself since I packed 4 palettes.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Nancy, I’m convinced that the world is divided into 2 groups – not liberals and conservatives, not theist and atheist, not omnivore and vegan BUT RATHER people who rejoice at colour groupings like this one and those who despair (I’m in the latter group). I do love the look of a few of the shades here, but two of them rated very poorly. Hope you absolutely love and enjoy this palette, though.
I completely agree with you. I have bright green eyes and I LOVE rosy-pinky shades! Fem rosa is my jam… wondering if I should get this too.
Oh man, I want this.
I’m going to try and wait until the Spring VIB sale (or at least until the new year) but this looks like my perfect palette. I’m not one for too much colour and I hate orangey warm palettes, but I love pinks and mauves. I agree with you though, Christine, I would have liked it they included an additional eyeshadow in the palette rather than a concealer (and I also wouldn’t mind giving up one or both of the glitters for another powder shade). Still though, this is beautiful.
Two glitters seemed odd to me, particularly since they’re both darker shades – like if had one been a lot lighter and one deeper, it would have made more “sense” to have them both.
I got this palette, and I’m thrilled. Huda’s reformulated, and the mattes are significantly better than in past palettes, smoother and creamier, pigment feels very buildable. And the metallics are easy to work with, and really pretty. Not too sure about the super glittery shades, those worry me a bit, but only 2 of them in there. And love the dusty plum/mauve/red/berry color combo. I think Huda’s new palettes (both big and small) are adding fresh colors to a market over saturated with the same old colors
Happy to hear you’re enjoying most of the palette!
This is undeniably gorgeous to look at and I’m intrigued by the “marble effect” shimmers but those glitter shades and the concealer just kill any desire for it stone dead. I have Lime Crime Venus XL already and it’s giving me the same vibes, so while I’m sure this palette will be popular and well loved, it’s not for me 🙂
The glitters/concealer really seem very specific when the rest of the palette seems more like they’re trying to create a go-to palette!
I honestly just want the shimmers in this palette. I have dupes that are close enough to them, so it’s no real loss for me to not purchase this palette.
I’m really surprised they didn’t make more of them within the palette (instead of the glitters) – they’re definitely more interesting (both visually and from a performance perspective).
Honestly, if there had been more of the shimmers, and a darker matte, I probably would have caved and purchased it.
I really wanted this palette when it first was hinted at on IG and when I saw the actual colours I was convinced it was the perfect palette for me. I love the colour story and felt that each shade would work for me. I didn’t purchase and decided to wait until I could read reviews and watch for a post from Christine before purchasing. I am so happy that I did. While I still love the colour story and several of the shades are really appealing to me, the reviews have not been stellar and your summation is spot on. The palette is lacking some depth of colour and I feel you can get similar looks with lots of other palettes. A couple of the glitter in clear bases are really gorgeous but I find those shades frustrating to work with and particularly if you have hooded eyes. I am glad that I waited for your review and won’t be purchasing this palette. Thank you for a timely review on during all the holiday madness.
I agree. I had also watched people on YouTube do tutorials and every single eye look was very similar. I realized that I didn’t want to spend $65 on just 1 eye look, especially when I could get the look with shades already in my collection.
I think this is a lovely palette overall, but it seems to be very disappointing when brands add glitter to their palettes because often they are just not good. The glittery shades are beautiful, but as a shimmer they would have been better.
I think this is far better than UD’s Cherry palette.
Stunning eye looks Christine.
Yay! I had already bought this and just received it I have not even tried it yet and was waiting to read your review before I decided if I was going to return it or not. It is one of the most beautiful palettes visually to look at. I feel the same way though about the concealer shade. I feel like it’s just going to get dirty from the other eyeshadows anyway. I would have liked a really light metallic for eyebrow bone instead of the Matte. It’s still a keeper because I have green eyes and all the shade will work well with that.
Hi Christine and sister Temptalia-ites,
I have a super basic question: When an eyeshadow doesn’t specifically promise that it can be used wet or dry, (which makes me assume I can put a wet brush on the powder w/out rendering it unusable), how do you use a damp/wet brush? Do you put a dry brush on the powder’s surface and then spray your brush?- which then means you have to use a new brush if you want to go in to get more product….or what? Do most formulas continue to work if you keep putting a damp brush in? The one time I tried it it hardened the shadow beyond usability.
Thanks so much! and Happy Holidays to everybody.
In general, the more shimmery it is, the more likely it will be fine used with a dampened brush… one’s brush should just be damp, not sopping wet, so if you spray it after you’ve picked up product, it should be nearly dry by the time you’ve applied the product – you could always use a towel to further dry, though!
Thanks for all your hard work Christine! I don’t even know how you do it!
This palette is gorgeous and I want it
I ♥️ this palette. I ordered it during the last VIB sale and I’ve not regretted it. The “marble” looking shadows are gorgeous, remind me of Tarte Chrome Pots.
Christine, I agree the concelear and the two glitters are a literal waste of space. I would if much preferred another metallic and deeper matte. But other than these very small complaints it’s a great palette.
Thank you for the review Christine. I really want it but can’t help but feel this is verg close to the Rose Gold Remsastered though.
This makes me wish I didn’t have Naked Cherry. There are some differences, especially in the finish of the shimmers, but the color story is so similar. I may still indulge with the $20 Sephora coupon that should be out soon. I swatched it in store the other day, and it really is beautiful. We’ll see…
I’m always really intrigued by Huda’s larger palettes, and this one is beautiful. However, for such a hefty price tag I really wish they just gave more incredible shadows instead of trying to include more non traditional mediums that need accompanying products, I wish they skipped the pressed glitters and the concealer and gave us more of those marble looking shadows and more dimension with the mattes. It still looks really beautiful, but for $65 I personally would have to want to use every shade off the bat.
This is pretty much what I was hoping Naked 3 or Backtalk would be (kind of perfect for a pale cool toned white chick who’s not a big fan of brown). I’m not sure if I can justify getting it, but since it’s permanent, I don’t need to worry so much. Thank you for getting this review out so quickly at such a busy time of year!
The colors are beautiful, but I am not into the glitter at all. Glitter is too patchy and messy. I think the metallics are just GORGEOUS! I am sure as many palettes as I have, I probably have every shade here or at least close to the colors. I just want to say how much I appreciate all the hard work you put into your reviews! I know listing all the dupes for each color has to be very time consuming. Thanks sooo much!
This is an absolutely beautiful palette. It doesn’t sound as though the primer would work for me at all, but that’s OK. I fully expected the glitter to need help, so I’m not surprised by the grades. It would have been nice if the glitters actually worked with the brush the way they were supposed to, but I’m not surprised.
It really would have been nice if they’d included a deep plum or burgundy instead of the primer.
This one’s going on my wishlist. I think it would be lovely for eyes with green tones.
I’ve had this palette for a couple of weeks now and adore it.
As soon as it popped up on Sephora, during the VIB sale, I grabbed it. before seeing any reviews. The colour combo on this palette is so unique–the metallics are gorgeous.
I agree with your scores on everything, there are a couple of iffy ones, but overall, this is a winner.
I can do a very natural “no-makeup, makeup” look with just a wash of colour, or total glam.
My best palette of the year.
I hate pink eyeshadow and barbie/blow up doll aesthetic so I’ll be skipping this one and continue pining for grungy, or natural, or anything that’s not so in your face “girly” to work its way back around again. I feel like we’ve been bombarded by pink for too long now and I am too old and too grumpy to sit quietly while waiting.
Having said that, I like chunky foiled shadows in palettes so they can become more widespread any day now. 🙂
Hi Christine, I expected a higher rating, but I see Excite & Infatuated brought it down and having not used them yet, I trust your judgement (I was expecting an A-). So that said, I was wondering what glitter or shimmer you’d recommend for those two? Not necessarily looking for a color replacement, but brands that you’d recommend for glitter-shadows “without” need for a fixing medium that work better than Excite. I’m not much of a glitter person, but if brands can improve them to wear you can simply tap or brush them on and they hold for the day, I’d probably change my mind even as someone over 50. Thanks!
I mean, I think you should be okay with slight fallout over time for any glittery eyeshadow formula, or else I’d say why not get an adhesive spray / glitter glue? The latter will work with a lot of glittery eyeshadows you may already have 🙂
ColourPop’s Super Shock Shadows often have sparkle/glitter and hold up pretty well all day long on their own. Marc Jacobs See-quins are stellar as well!
Ooo, haven’t seen Marc Jacobs See-quins nor Coulour Pop’s Super Shock Shadows, so thanks for the information!
Echoing other comments.. With green hazel eyes, I couldn’t resist this paltte, but while it is super pretty to look at, every look I do seemingly looks like the next. I love a few shades..OMG daydream.. a very expensive purchase for the pretty shimmers.
I’m glad this palette reviewed decently. It’s gorgeous to look at and to play with. I agree that concealer shade is pretty useless, in fact it made my pretty eyeshadow crease and fade so badly! I’m considering digging it out and pressing a dark plum or burgundy- brown shade in that slot to make this palette complete.
Concur on the creasing. NYX’s eye shadow primer is better (even nothing was better for me), but I will still use it, just to empty the space. ;).
I adore this palette, I’m going to use it for my cousin’s wedding makeup in January (not the shimmers, but still). I actually feel like I’ve gotten a lot of differing looks out of it, although they are of course in the same color family. I don’t use the concealer and the glitters should’ve been left to one, but I’m not going to complain. I hope to see more of these new shimmers from her in the next palette, they’re just gorgeous.
Those owning this palette please let me know if it’s possible to create different looks with this palette. I returned mine without using it because it seemed whatever I’ll create with this palette would have the same look/ feel. Please advise. Thanks.
I love this palette: it changed the everyday makeup in a snuggle experience.
So I ended up getting this along with the amethyst palette instead of the Norvina after swatching them all in store. I think this palette has more colors I will use continuously and the amethyst palette satisfies my need for purple. I can’t wait to play with them both! (oh, yeah, and I also got that gorgeous Mac Vio-lit, and the Pat McGrath Eye Ecstasy Kit.) I think I’m good with eye products for a while!
