Chanel Architectonic Eyeshadow Palette

Chanel Architectonic Eyeshadow Palette ($80.00 for 0.18 oz.) contains five eyeshadows with a smoky feel to them. It’s an interesting concept for the holiday season, as I think smoky eyes are certainly a go-to, but it’s less your typical red/gold themed launch, so I liked it from that perspective. I was less impressed by the application of the formula, which was dustier and prone to sheering out and had less staying power on the lids.

Architectonic #1 is a dark navy blue with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a thin, lightly dusty consistency that was prone to sheering out. It lasted for six hours on me before fading. LORAC Beast Mode (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, cooler (95% similar). Viseart Dark Matte #10 (PiP, ) is brighter (95% similar). ColourPop Pier Love (LE, $4.50) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Crow's Nest (LE, ) is more muted, warmer (90% similar). Natasha Denona Navy (01V) (PiP, $29.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Give Me Glow High by the Beach (P, $7.00) is more shimmery, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Prank (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (90% similar). bareMinerals Lagoon (LE, $14.00) is darker (90% similar). NARS L'Amour, Toujours L'Amour #10 (DC, $25.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). NYX Shameless (P, $4.50) is warmer (90% similar). Sydney Grace Crashing Waves (LE, $5.25) is darker (90% similar). Make Up For Ever S226 Abyssal Blue (DC, $21.00)(85% similar). Viseart Defiance (PiP, ) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). Natasha Denona Fata Morgana (LE, ) is warmer (85% similar). NARS Old Church Street (Right) (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Chanel Quintessence #9 (LE, ) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Make Up For Ever M226 Abyssal Blue (P, $17.00) is lighter (85% similar). Natasha Denona Python (PiP, ) is warmer (80% similar). Estee Lauder Saphir (LE, ) is cooler (80% similar). Makeup by Mario Party Glam #4 (LE, ) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Architectonic #2 is a deep gray with a bluish tone and a soft pearl shimmer. It had good pigmentation, though not fully opaque, with a drier, thin texture that had quite a bit of kickup in the pan. This shade applied decently to bare skin but turned noticeably patchy when I started to blend it out in the crease. I saw signs of fading after seven hours of wear. Burberry Antique Blue (305) (P, $29.00) is darker, more muted (95% similar). MAC Blue Spruce (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). Giorgio Armani #20 (DC, $33.00) is cooler (90% similar). LORAC Deep Fog (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Hourglass Graphite #4 (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). bareMinerals Do Not Disturb (P, ) is lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Ace (LE, $19.00) is cooler (80% similar). Disney by Sephora Flotsam (LE, ) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). Bobbi Brown Gunmetal (LE, $21.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Architectonic #3 is a light-medium silver with cool undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was drier and looser in the pan, so some of the powder came away in larger chunks. I highly recommend tapping excess off your brush and applying in thinner, sheerer layers, as it was hard to work with otherwise. It had good pigmentation and wore for seven hours. Sephora Iridescent Shell (110) (LE, $13.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). bareMinerals Deja Vu (P, ) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (90% similar). NARS Parallax (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Tarte Mystic (PiP, ) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Too Faced Sugar Bells (LE, $16.00) is lighter (90% similar). Too Faced Tin Soldier (LE, $16.00) is warmer (90% similar). NARS Interstellar (P, $25.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). L'Oreal Primped & Precious (LE, $7.99) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Chanel Tisse Smoky #1 (PiP, ) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Parisienne #3 (LE, ) is lighter (85% similar). Benefit Blingo (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Rouge Bunny Rouge Vivacious Maguari (P, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Viseart Chloe (PiP, ) is lighter, more muted, warmer (80% similar). Urban Decay Crystal (LE, $19.00) is darker (80% similar). bareMinerals Vapor (P, $12.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Architectonic #4 is a deep taupe with cool undertones and a matte finish. It was a bit firmer in the pan, so while it adhered well to bare skin and lasted a bit longer (seven and a half hours), it was a struggle to really get an even diffusion of color on the skin. Milani Untamed (PiP, $5.99) is darker (95% similar). MAC Showstopper (DC, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). Smashbox Slayer (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Tarte Smokeshow (PiP, ) is cooler (95% similar). Lancome Purple Pageantry (LE, $19.00) is warmer (95% similar). Inglot #348 (P, $6.00) is warmer (90% similar). Chanel Quiet Revolution #4 (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Cocktail Black (LE, $17.00) is warmer (90% similar). Sydney Grace Cocoa Beans (PiP, $5.25) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Sydney Grace Boaz (Light) (PiP, $5.25) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Sydney Grace Boaz (Deep) (PiP, $5.25) is darker (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Architectonic #5 is a very light, silvery white with a frosted finish. The eyeshadow felt looser in the pan, somewhat dry and dusty, which led to it being prone to sheering out on the lid, despite having good pigmentation initially. I felt like my eyelids just ate the formula up, but it was particularly apparent with this shade–a mere five hours! ColourPop A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes (LE, $6.00) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Le Metier de Beaute Platinum (P, $30.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Tarte Flask (P, $14.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Make Up For Ever ME202 Iceberg Blue (DC, $17.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Dior Volcanic #2 (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Chanel Tisse Ombre de Lune #2 (PiP, ) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Firefly (LE, $4.50) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Tarina Tarantino Lovely #1 (DC, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Rondelle (LE, $17.00) is more muted (90% similar). Maybelline Cool Crush (LE, $6.99) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Guerlain L'Heure de Nuit #2 (DC, ) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Just Breathe #1 (LE, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). theBalm #34 (P, $6.50) is lighter (90% similar). Wet 'n' Wild The Night's Quad #4 (LE, ) is more muted (90% similar). Dior Parisian Sky #3 (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). Dior Blue Beat #3 (LE, ) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Melt Cosmetics Indica (PiP, ) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Inglot #447 (P, $7.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Dior Moonlight #3 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). NARS Creeper (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, cooler (85% similar). I swatched this in store and wasn’t too impressed. Agree the #1 and #5 were the weakest colors, your swatches actually look much better than mine, which were sheer and patchy. I thought the rest could be decent over primer, but I couldn’t test for application or wear , and the $80 price is just ridiculous. You could get a top notch Viseart palette for that.

LOL, yes my oily lids have very expensive tastes! They’ve eaten up shadows from Guerlain, Dior, Chanel, Natasha Denona, Burberry, etc. But ironically, the $5 ColourPop shadows can stand up to them, so my wallet is very happy

Yes, CP is awesome!! I always wear primer, but I can easily get 10-16 hrs with CP shadows. And IMO, a number of them have gorgeous complex shimmer, that rival the shimmer in found in HE brands.

In a way, I’m almost happy to hear this looked better than it performed. I saw the sneak peaks at it at least a month ago and thought it was beautiful. Of course, I can’t wear most of the shades as they are too dark for me, but I love gray … anything … so I at least wanted to know if anyone loved it. If you had, I might have been tempted to buy it and end up with eyes that look like a bruises!

I like that Chanel are trying to make a cool toned palette, but this is just an epic fail. You are much better off with Guerlain’s Les Gris if you like these shades. A much better performing palette and one of the best that Guerlain has created.
I thought this palette was pretty ordinary just by looking at it.
