Anastasia Holiday 2019 Mini Lipstick Set Review & Swatches
Holiday 2019
Anastasia Holiday 2019 Mini Lipstick Holiday Vault ($59.00 for 0.455 oz.) is a new, limited edition set that features 10 new shades of lipstick, which includes primarily shimmery/metallic (more “matte metallic”) shades. They are miniature in size, but I didn’t have any issues with them breaking during application (despite some having firmer formulas, too!).
If you’re someone who has tried Anastasia’s matte lipsticks in the past and liked them, then these are in the same vein, but if you have no tolerance for firmer, stiffer lipstick formulas… keep moving. I think that these feel “worse” going on than they are; they are more comfortable to wear than expected, though they are not the most comfortable matte formula on the market. Most shades were pigmented and longer-wearing with a few being a little drying over time.

LELimited Edition. $59.00.
Pink Champagne
Pink Champagne is a soft, peachy coral with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that didn’t build up to full coverage with additional layers. The texture was firmer in the tube, thin, and lightweight, but there was some emphasis of my lip lines. This shade lasted well for four and a half hours and felt slightly drying over time.

Formula Overview
$18.00/0.12 oz. - $150.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have “full-pigment” with a “smooth, ultra-matte finish.” Since the description was a little light, I also watched the brand’s video, where the formula is also supposed to be comfortable to apply and not settle in lip lines. The best aspects of the formula are how lightweight it felt on–almost like nothing on, so despite being more matte and denser, not heavy or clingy–and that most shades have been non-drying (so far).
There has been some transfer, and the finish is mostly matte but not “ultra-matte” (certainly not as flat or matte as their liquid lipsticks, as an example). Some shades have emphasized my lip lines from a texture standpoint or due to color settling into them, but it depended on the shade. The wear has ranged from four and a half hours to eight hours, and some of the richer shades can survive a moderate meal and definitely drinking coffee.
I found the texture to be the drawback; the lipstick is incredibly firm and dense with little to creaminess, which resulted in an application that tugged and pulled on the lips. It was also the type of texture that caught on flakes, so regular exfoliation is key. There were a few shades that were creamier and thicker on the lips, which were more comfortable to apply, but the majority were quite firm. (They also did not get softer with use.)

Pink Champagne
LELimited Edition. $18.00.
Staycation
Staycation is a deep, yellowed peach with warm undertones and a matte finish. The lipstick had good color payoff in one pass, which didn’t really build up to full coverage due to the texture having more of a velvety slip to it that I didn’t find conducive to layering (pushed the product around more). The texture was lightweight, thin without being clingy, but there was product that sank into and separated along my deeper lip lines. It stayed on well for five hours and felt a touch drying toward the end of wear.

Chrome Peach
Chrome Peach is a light-medium copper with strong, warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had nearly opaque color coverage in one layer, which was buildable to full coverage. The texture was firmer and thinner, so it needed heavier pressure to apply without tugging. The color went on evenly, and while more metallic, it didn’t emphasize my lip lines much. It wore nicely for five hours and felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Chrome Peach
LELimited Edition. $18.00.
Spirit
Spirit is a medium peach with warm, orange undertones and a semi-matte finish. The lipstick had a dense consistency that was thin, lightweight, and had slight velvety glide that could have been a little more forgiving but didn’t tug painfully on my lips during application. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that went on evenly but had a tendency to sink into my lip lines. It lasted well for four and a half hours and felt neither drying nor hydrating while worn.

Rose Gold
Rose Gold is a medium-dark, rosy coral with warm undertones and flecks of gold and pink micro-glitter. The consistency was grittier initially, especially as it was firmer and denser, so it tugged and had a noticeable texture from the sparkles as I pulled it on my lips. It had semi-opaque color coverage that adhered somewhat evenly, but it separated along my deeper lip lines and clumped up slightly in places. The color stayed on nicely for five hours but was drying over time.

Blood Orange
Blood Orange is a deep orange-red with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was intensely pigmented that adhered evenly and smoothly to my lips without emphasizing my lip lines. The texture was dense, slightly firm, but it had enough give that it didn’t drag on my lips during application. It wore well for over six hours and felt slightly drying toward the end of wear.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a muted, medium-dark orange with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. The lipstick had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to my lips, while the texture was thin, velvety, and firmer in the tube, so it tugged slightly but didn’t feel dry or clingy on. It lasted nicely for five and a half hours and was non-drying.

LELimited Edition. $18.00.
Vida
Vida is a deep, raspberry red with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that adhered evenly, but it was an incredibly stiff formula to work with, so it tugged and pulled at my lips quite a bit. The lipstick felt very lightweight, thin yet didn’t seem to cling to or emphasize my natural lip texture. The color was still going strong after six hours of wear but felt a little drying toward the end.

Chrome Brown
Chrome Brown is a medium-dark, reddish-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a faint, metallic sheen. The consistency was lightly creamy without any slip–it didn’t feel emollient but glided across my lips without tugging. The more metallic finishes definitely have more glide compared to the mattes, though. It had rich color coverage that wore nicely for five and a half hours and felt non-drying over time.

Chrome Brown
LELimited Edition. $18.00.
Chrome Purple
Chrome Purple is a blackened purple with cooler violet and purple sparkle. The texture felt grittier due to the size and amount of the sparkles, and it wasn’t helped by the denser, firmer texture that was drier compared to most modern lipsticks. It had good color coverage in a single layer, and it applied fairly evenly, but there was build up of product in my lip lines and definite unevenness around the inner area of my lips (where it didn’t adhere well). It lasted well for five hours but was slightly drying over time.

I’ve got no intention of buying the set, but several shades are ones I’d love to see join the permanent lineup. Blood Orange, Vida, Chrome Peach and Rose Gold are beautiful shades!
Chrome Peach and Chrome Brown are my favourite shades, but given the issues with the formulas I am looking at the dupes.
I wish I could get a set with just the darker and brighter shades.
A few of these lipsticks are beautiful, but too few for me to buy the set, and the one I liked the best didn’t sound comfortable at all.
If they added Vida, but in a more comfortable formula to the permanent range I’d absolutely buy it, It’s a beautiful shade. I also like Blood Orange, strange as it’s almost the opposite of Vida and Rose Gold.
Wait 2-3 months and you’ll likely find this set on clearance at your local tj maxx and/or Marshalls for like 9.99. I just bought their summer mini set for 7.99 yesterday.
I don’t actually like a lot of matte lip products, especially have trouble with matte, liquid lips, but I actually really like these ABH matte lipsticks, I have a couple of quads including the bright pink and purples which I really love. I read about all these great liquid lipsticks that just don’t work for me yet somehow this formula does and although I’m not super keen on the glittery ones that look much better on than I expected. They are currently on sale at Sephora Australia so thanks Christine for helping me decide 🙂
